I am using Soulo Mute Harmon Style Mute for around 150$ and I absolutely love it. It has great sound and response and it is nicely in tune. I had copper Jo-Ral before and Soulo Mute is definitely upgrade for me 👍
I'm a beginner, I got a harmon brand one and found it much harder to play than without the mute. Like I have to blow twice as hard. So I don't don't like to practice with it much :(
I find it useful after initial getting used to. Also you have to blow straight / true and kinda sharpen your airstream in that way otherwise it doesn’t sound as it should… Which is actually not bad practice for normal playing without it either. Don’t blow harder! Just a bit more focused?
You should not practice mainly on a mute. First you need to gain a feel of your lips vibration with the open trumpet and that takes experience. Once you have established your embouchure then you can practice occasionally with a mute.

remember, Miles always had a mic right in front of his. Its great for practice quiet, just play normally.

It's because you're adding resistance that you're not used to by shoving something in the bell, an over restrictive horn can hurt you in that regard
