@@kennethdavy4051 You're seeing the difference here because Rebirth is a specific use case. There was no reason for the game to be this blurry on the base console.
People will get mad at anything. I was crucified many times when I said I preferred playing this game in quality 4K/30fps mode back when this game came out.
I think people take issue with the word "vast" in the title. It's mostly personal preference and minor sharpness improvments, and most people don't care. I mean these guys have TVs the size of most 3rd word slum households in surface area. Stuff would get blurry at that scale to an absurd degree.
It's simply because TLOU2 is a first party and rebirth is third party exclusive. Sony is also in a weird position where showing this much improvement on a partner's game is a bit like saying "hey look how bad it looked before".
Funny you mention this because as I’ve gotten older my eyesight has gotten worse for far away objects. So if you put these side by side on my TV at normal viewing distance I might be hard pressed to see the difference lol
The 1080p in rebirth still should NOT look like that. Ive seen 900p images that arent as blurry as that. That taa is still horrid. Adding even fsr2 is gonna make the game look much better, the resolution on pro being the same excepy them using pssr for it is more of an insult to anyone thats played this game in the base ps5
The performance mode on the base PS5 is just atrocious. There is no other way around it. Even giving the raw pixel count would have been better than the blurry mess they gave us. I was hoping they would fix it eventually, but now that the Pro is going to be released, i'm positive that the base PS5 will forever be stuck with the shitty visual quality in Perf mode, since they can just brute force it on the pro.
Holy hell is vanilla performance mode blurry. You'd think the word "blurry" was exaggerated but it's literally blurry in every sense of the word. And this is UE4, not UE5! I mean, GOW Ragnarok hits like native >1440p 60fps with dynamic resolution on performance mode on base PS5. Rebirth just didn't get the work put into it and is now gonna get carried by the much newer GPU of the Pro, of course.
Rebirth's resolution was fine on vanilla performance mode, it simply had some of the worst upscaling ever seen on the ps5. Even fsr would have been a colossal improvement, ff16 drops to lower resolutions and still somehow manages to look sharper. There's no excuse for it looking this bad, possibly the blurriest image quality in ps5 history
@@radar4104 So the incompetence is entirely on the upscaling tech they chose? I must admit I'm confused as to what is going on. I suppose I need to watch the DF review which I assume was done when the game released.
@@kimlee6643 Iirc it was using something like bilinear upscaling, but, like, utterly scuffed lol Even here they mention that the actual resolution doesn't seem to be all that different than vanilla, pssr just puts in the work. Probably ya had a sharpness tv, or if you have a AI upscaler monitor. Which is expensive. That's what bravia tvs are made to do to make the performance mode look crispy on ps5. Does look terrible on my 4k TV but I prefer graphics mode. but some reason output it to lower hrz make the game completely sharper. I had a great experience especially on ff16. Quite not a fan on 60fps cause in my eyes makes the game very slow in some way. Tekken 8 is fine. But somehow it's weird on there games. It's either that the animations are way to smooth or something. It's just not great speeds at default seen in the human eye

Why would game developers ever not target 30fps? If you give them more processing power, they will make fancier graphics, not just let all that power go to 30 more frames.
The fact they used that as the thumbnail, they have to be being cheeky. Honestly the improvements are pretty nice. More clarity and higher frames are allways appreciated. Better than I initially thought.
I disagree about them switching to UE5 for part 3. I want to play this game in next few years & them developing it with custom tools made for UE4 will make the game better.
The reveal of this console should have been this game, Star Wars Outlaws / Avatar Frontiers of Pandora / ANY game with image quality issues on base PS5, and then maybe a good RT showcase. I don't know what they were thinking when they decided on what games would be focused on. TLOU2 for example - a PS4 game ported to PS5 that never really had image quality issues.
Because they don't own those other games, they need signoff from their partners, and I doubt their partners want to show off the base PS5 versions looking like poop, like Rebirth does in performance mode. Wasn't Hogwarts the only third party game shown off?
@@HastyElderHaman At the end of the presentation when they showed a bunch of games on the ps5 pro they showed Hogwarts Legacy, FF7 Rebirth, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Alan Wake 2, Dragons Dogma 2 and Immortals of Aveum. But I agree with the OP, they could’ve used better examples.
If they'd shown games with issues then they'd basically be trashing those developers in doing so. It's not a great idea to put your partners on blast, so they went with games that they worked on and optimized in house-which backfired in its own right.
I don’t think the other companies would like Sony walking up and going “here’s how the pro looks compared to the ps5 on this game, look at how bad the ps5 version looks guys, let’s zoom in just to see how terrible it is”. Don’t think they’d agree to being shit talked about their development skills.
When shown side by side Performance mode was truly a blurry mess. I only played the game in performance mode and always felt like I needed glasses because it's so blurry like you are losing vision. But I've played lower res games on PS4 that run at like 900p and these were not that blurry like FF7 Rebirth's performance mode. It's so weird.
Square Enix just didn't want another half billion in sales - apparently, their accounting department said it would hurt them financially to take dollars at 50% higher value than the Yen and their bank account would overflow so they butchered the visual quality to lower sales🙂
@@wishingW3L so when the game launched, it looked blurry, and they made that the performance smooth mode after a patch. They released a new mode in the same patch called performance sharp that reduced the amount of smoothing that was in the game and I think it was a better looking version of the performance mode. For some reason, digital foundry did not want to use that mode in the footage to see how the best looking 60 FPS mode would look compared to the PS5 Pro. It feels a little disingenuous to take the worst looking mode and compare it to the new console.
@@Haybud maybe...I didn't think performance sharp helped at all on a 65" tv. It was still messier when comparing how good forbidden west looked. Though it took forbidden west like 3 years to get that ultimate 60fps/resolution right.

Sadly, Sony and third party developers have very little incentive to improve base PS5 game modes on already released games now. As a manufacturer, Sony likely wants there to be clear selling points for their new console hardware.
It's fucking stupid that you have to get the $700 dollars console with no disk drive to get to play this game at 60fps at a resolution higher than 720p. This isn't a win, it just shows incompetence. And Sony had the guts to sell the original Ps5 with "8k 60fps" on the box.

Being a primary PC gamer with lots of frames I ended up completing the game all in Graphics mode. I got used to the 30 FPS but couldn't get used to the blurry performance mode. This will be awesome with higher frames.
Finally, someone showing differences that can actually be seen. I feel like the poor optimization for FF7 Rebirth and FF16 are more to blame than any lack of power on the PS5's part. Playing InterMISSION was buttery smooth 60 fps and still looks crystal clear. I'll be interested to see how the Pro looks compared to the base system on a game that wasn't optimized terribly right out the gate.
Sony had to show mostly game licences they own. Especially when doing comparisons. But those games are made with strictly PlayStation in mind so they are the games that look best on PlayStation anyway.
Most people ain’t dumb enough to fall for this scam of a patch console 😅 this was an easy fix on squares side but they chose not to so Sony used that to their advantage to showcase their upscaling tech on a game which was optimised badly, you won’t see this much change in other games
@@danielweiss4498 I am from the pc world and all I gotta say is Sony releasing a product that's on par with most people's gaming PCs for about half the price of one is fantastic. The problem Sony is now positioned themselves in is that hardcore gamers are impressed by the ps5 pro but won't buy it since a lot of them have a pc and the casuals can't afford the ps5 pro so cope by saying "it's not that much different, who needs a more clear picture anyways my ps5 is fine".
I play on PC. The PS5 Pro obv looks better (as it should of course). And yeah the perf mode looks WAY better on Pro. Part of that is just from how AWFUL the upscaling method SE used in rebrith is. PSSR is doing most of the work, but it's still a nice improvement regardless and looks quite nice IMO (I think the quality 30FPS mode on base PS5 looks nice as well honestly). Still don't think it's worth the $700 + cost of a disc drive. I've got plenty of games new and on my backlog to play to tide me over for any PS5 exclusives I might care about since they come to PC later. That's what I'm doing with Rebirth. And about to do when God of War Ragnarök releases on PC tomorrow (did the same with the 1st game). I can wait. And I know this is a situational thing, but I'd MUCH rather spend that money on my next GPU upgrade later, plan to upgrade from my 3080 to a new GPU when the next gen of cards are out from Nvidia, AMD, and I'm curious how much intel improves with their next gen cards. Good on CPU since I just upgraded to a 7800X3D from a 8700K (and boy am I glad I went AMD this time).
@@sean8102 honestly I have a Rtx 4080 and a r7 7800x3d and I have to say I am really impressed by the ps5 pro, it's looking to be a good console, I think Sony should of included the stand for $700, the disk drive is debatable since they went for a 2tb drive over a 1tb drive and disks are becoming more irrelevant (I know I am going to get some colourful arguements but I am right). Honestly I am hoping the ps6 has the 3D Vcache technology and runs on zen 4 since by that point I fully expect the 7800x3d to still be a great gaming CPU and if the ps6 can have a CPU that matches the 7800x3d with let's say 4080 like performance that would be mental.
Looks much better. Worth $7-800 for a less blurry experience on something that shouldn’t really have been blurry in the first place? Definitely not for me.
A more powerful system genuinely doesn't matter. Developers have always made games more demanding than what consoles can handle. Watch when the ps6 vs ps6 pro video get released a decade from now
The PlayStation 4 Pro was approximately 2.3 times more powerful than the original PlayStation 4, which translates to a performance difference of around 130%. Ps 5 vs ps 5 Pro only 45%😅
Real talk: Comparing ps5 pro to REBIRTH'S "Performance Smooth " graphical mode is kinda pointless and kind of disingenuous. It looks like vaseline. They need to compare it to Performance Sharp.
This is game of the year for me! It was frustrating to see how blurred performance mode was... so I played on graphics mode and had a great time overall. I'm not gonna waste money on a ps5 pro obviously, so I'll wait for the PC version to replay it at 60fps with higher resolution and better ambient occlusion/anti-aliasing options...and mods! My 450 dollars ps5 slim is just a retrocompatbile playstation/blu-ray player at this point.
Is definitely a improvement, but i don't think this is a "vast" improvement. The image quality problem in FF7 Rebirth is not the PS5 fault, is more a dev's fault.
They are showing old games with just modes so far. That level of improvement from just adjusting settings for new hardware is amazing. These are games that weren’t designed with this system in mind.
but it's not worth $700 for that small of an upgrade. We spent $500 for a new gen console. and they want us to spend $700 for an upgrade to a current gen.... no thanks.
You don't even have a TV that is capable of running base PS5 at its peak performance. The PRO was not made for you. These massive graphical leaps are going to be every game from here on out. The PRO is absolutely worth the 790 dollars for the complete package.
@@enryuu13 "Trade it in, just spend 200 for the upgrade"? That would mean that you'd get $500 for the PS5 you have now. Ain't gonna happen. If you already have the $450 PS5 "Slim," do you really think GS will give you $450 trade-in allowance and let you walk out of the store only paying $250 for the Pro???
The games that dont use ray tracing will look much better, but dont expect it from ray traced titles, only if they are utilizing the full power of the ps5 to push higher end ray tracing. This showcase is only representative of non-raytraced titles. Sony showed their raytraced titles, and digital foundry did not probably say why these games look much better. They are void of ray tracing
All these people complaining about the Pro will hopefully make it easier to get before GTA 6. Just like the PS4 Pro, you dont want the little tech bump after 4 years; don't buy it. And if you're on PC, you damn sure shouldn't be complaining considering mid tier CPUs and GPUs get changed at about the same frequency. Lets not be frauds, this has always been the "game" in the industry.
The thing is, the PS5 hardly has anything on it that shows off ITS power.. and they're already releasing an upgraded system to ensure devs can continue to rush out lazy, unoptimized code, yet have slightly better performance (5 years in..)
It's embarrassing for Square that PS5's hardware is what was needed to make FF7R not look like a blurry mess on console. Developers really are unlearning how to optimise games since the introduction of a crutch known as upscalers
All hate and crying would be inexistent if price would have been 200 dollars under. A pity that sony missed that. Cause inflation yes or no, I remind everyone PS4 Pro on release had the price tag of PS4 on release...
Sony has also raised the price of the PS5 in most markets outside of the US since launch. A console that is more expensive than it was 4 years after launch.

How can something "seem" to be if it's (better) "by a longshot"? Or is it meant to be a clever way to be biased on the part or Sony?
In other words, SE took the least amount of effort possible to make a "Pro" mode by just slapping slapping PSSR on it. Since the original release was such a mess, this was enough to make a significant improvement.

It's only a matter of time before the PS5 Pro turns into a 1080p 60fps machine. PC world is the same way as software progresses (or devs lack of optimization) for future titles. It's just that console will hit that barrier much faster than PC. And with PC, it's a lot more manageable since we have a vast amount of settings to toggle, vs. console being limited to presets, so you technically get what they give you and that's that.
@frantz4g63 Man the more I look the more I want pc. I want settings and toggles man. I want my pc to cook eggs while in the fridge. I want....well I don't Wang that. I just want real quality and options.
@bombyo3634 Well, if you're willing to spend, you'll get far beyond what any console will offer. For me, I learned my Series X was essentially worthless and sold it. Kept the PS5 for exclusives and built a 4080S powered PC from nothing. Spent over $2k, but I'm not looking back. My experience is nigh flawless and extremely enjoyable. Probably could've been a bit cheaper, but my preferences for the build are what made it more expensive than it needed to. End of the day, it all comes down to your preference and expectation. Look at it this way. If you bought a PS5 for $500+tax, sold it at $350, then bought a Pro for $700+tax, end of the day that's going to be about $1000 raw out of pocket. If you would've just invested that same $1000 into a PC (or even shy more), you'd have a platform with far more longevity than needing to upgrade every 2-3 years like PS. You'd basically be upgrading once every full console generation on PC. This isn't counting the huge cost of PS subscription (vs. PC's free online), and the cost of games on PS, which is MUCH more expensive than games on PC.
Spent the last 2 years bigging up the ps5, now DF are picking it apart to try and save the ps5 pro mess. All that money and still cant get near 1440p native at 60frames. Mid gen cash grabs need to stop.
It's still looking blurry at 4k because of temporal methods of anti aliasing. Devs really need to start from scratch and find some other methods of anti aliasing that does not use multiple frames. These games are looking blurrier than 10-20 year old games, it's ridiculous.
sneaky.. carefully choosing the blurriest game to show a “massive improvement”. Show us another PS5 game running performance mode and compare true pro version
Still not worth the extra money. At that price, you're better getting into PC gaming. Pro should have cost the price of the original and they should have dropped the price of the original console.
It's weird to me because we've gone backwards. Games used to have crisp pixels, now they're a blurry and smeary mess because we're trying to push 4K resolutions on hardware that can barely render 1080p natively. People demand that jaggies be eliminated even though they are inherent to natively rendered computer graphics. I don't get it.

If yall are buying a PS5 Pro just for one game to have better framerates and looks, then you are the problem and what's wrong with the gaming industry and the reason why these companies and game devs think they can do what they do and release crap like this along with crappy games.
One game haha it will be all games improved, how dumb
Let's see some sweat on Barrett's face for 700 dollars!
Facts
Anyone that sees the comparison of quality mode on both and is saying it looks the same should be classified legally blind.
The PS5Pro looks purposefully blurred compared to the one for the base PS5.
still not worth it
I got the ps4pro for 4k30 and 1080p60...I got the ps5 for 4k60 and got 4k30 and 1080p60. I'm not paying 700 for 4k60 again.
Screw that. They had my support until that price.
Pc I'm looking at you and found some sweet deals. And I can play all games not just only sonys
I’m feeling the same way. We went backwards.
Why has Sony still got 8K on the box🤣
PS5 Pro - "Make your game look like you thought it should have looked like before for $900"
They probably made performance mode blurry on purpose so they could sell more ps5 pros!
PS5 Pro is looking like an upscaler for prrformamce modes.
700 dollar upscaler
sneaky.. carefully choosing the blurriest game to show a “massive improvement”. Show us another PS5 game running performance mode and compare true pro version
Never seen so many salty PC players on the comments. This is the type of shit you gladly pay $1000+ in component upgrades.
Lmfao a 700 dollar pc will outrun the pro easy
@@topshelfgaming1840 you didn’t make it long enough into elementary school to understand the meaning of the world “outrun” lil bro.
@@SpartanKyuubi that was a weak comeback 😂. I guess you can’t stick to the topic because you know it’s true the PS5 pro is a waste
@@topshelfgaming1840 you didn’t make it long enough into elementary school to understand the meaning of the world “comeback ” lil bro.
@@topshelfgaming1840I game on pc, what you’re saying about a $700 pc is simply not true. You know nothing about what you’re talking about.
Still not worth the extra money. At that price, you're better getting into PC gaming. Pro should have cost the price of the original and they should have dropped the price of the original console.
Graphics are killing the video game industry and demanding gamers are the ones to blame
Very true. We often criticize the developers but consumers are also at fault too
It's weird to me because we've gone backwards. Games used to have crisp pixels, now they're a blurry and smeary mess because we're trying to push 4K resolutions on hardware that can barely render 1080p natively. People demand that jaggies be eliminated even though they are inherent to natively rendered computer graphics. I don't get it.
@@TiwillI think 4k fsr 3.1 performance is better than native 1080p even though it is still 1080p it's the game developers fault not the technology
@@Tiwill 4k TV panels kinda screwed the whole market and pushed consoles in the direction of high resolution by any means necessary.
Seeing the improvements on Tifa's hair... i might just buy it
The difference is still too small to even consider buying a ps5 pro for imo.
so you're saying Graphic mode on 4k 60fps is too small?
@@MrKnaives I'm saying the visible difference in quality is too small.
Then dont look the video with your phone at 720p certainly you wont notice any difference , in 4k the difference is huge
Plot twist: the footage is running on PC.
Keep dreaming kid.
People are sheep. They just follow the hate herd. The pro is doing what we want fidelity mode at 60 fps. What are you all complaining about?
Good lord, exactly what we needed ,.Sony really need to show you guys more respect and be ready with the uncompressed footage for times like this. best marketing so far for PS5 Pro
This is not "Night and day" at all. There's barely a difference
agreed
DF had to literally zoom in 200% to notice the difference. If you're sitting 1+ meter away from the TV you'll not even notice that. This video is a scam just like PS5 Pro
