Sony had to show mostly game licences they own. Especially when doing comparisons. But those games are made with strictly PlayStation in mind so they are the games that look best on PlayStation anyway.
Yeah because Sony likes to use their first party titles as examples. The only problem is those titles are already very well optimized for the Ps5. Even though rebirth is a timed exclusive it’s less optimized for Ps5 than a first party title would be.
People will get mad at anything. I was crucified many times when I said I preferred playing this game in quality 4K/30fps mode back when this game came out.
I think people take issue with the word "vast" in the title. It's mostly personal preference and minor sharpness improvments, and most people don't care. I mean these guys have TVs the size of most 3rd word slum households in surface area. Stuff would get blurry at that scale to an absurd degree.
@@MattyJay03 it’s because they were lazy and used a terrible upscaling they could’ve just use FSR they using unreal engine 4 for God sake and they didn’t bother fixing it. It’s a very simple fix.
Probably ya had a sharpness tv, or if you have a AI upscaler monitor. Which is expensive. That's what bravia tvs are made to do to make the performance mode look crispy on ps5. Does look terrible on my 4k TV but I prefer graphics mode. but some reason output it to lower hrz make the game completely sharper. I had a great experience especially on ff16. Quite not a fan on 60fps cause in my eyes makes the game very slow in some way. Tekken 8 is fine. But somehow it's weird on there games. It's either that the animations are way to smooth or something. It's just not great speeds at default seen in the human eye
The performance mode on the base PS5 is just atrocious. There is no other way around it. Even giving the raw pixel count would have been better than the blurry mess they gave us. I was hoping they would fix it eventually, but now that the Pro is going to be released, i'm positive that the base PS5 will forever be stuck with the shitty visual quality in Perf mode, since they can just brute force it on the pro.
Trust me. That's just your mobile screen. The platform doesn't even have a 1% performance increase for games yet has less features and hardware. This garbage is a scam
I agree. I could really tell how blurred the yellow flowers were and could also see the 30fps jittering while the other side of the video was lovely and smooth.

The 1080p in rebirth still should NOT look like that. Ive seen 900p images that arent as blurry as that. That taa is still horrid. Adding even fsr2 is gonna make the game look much better, the resolution on pro being the same excepy them using pssr for it is more of an insult to anyone thats played this game in the base ps5
What Cerny couldn’t say and it’s in fact the new model’s best selling point is: “Ps5 pro will enable brute force improvements for titles that are not well optimized”.
Looks much better. Worth $7-800 for a less blurry experience on something that shouldn’t really have been blurry in the first place? Definitely not for me.
Holy hell is vanilla performance mode blurry. You'd think the word "blurry" was exaggerated but it's literally blurry in every sense of the word. And this is UE4, not UE5! I mean, GOW Ragnarok hits like native >1440p 60fps with dynamic resolution on performance mode on base PS5. Rebirth just didn't get the work put into it and is now gonna get carried by the much newer GPU of the Pro, of course.
Rebirth's resolution was fine on vanilla performance mode, it simply had some of the worst upscaling ever seen on the ps5. Even fsr would have been a colossal improvement, ff16 drops to lower resolutions and still somehow manages to look sharper. There's no excuse for it looking this bad, possibly the blurriest image quality in ps5 history
@@radar4104 So the incompetence is entirely on the upscaling tech they chose? I must admit I'm confused as to what is going on. I suppose I need to watch the DF review which I assume was done when the game released.
@@kimlee6643 Iirc it was using something like bilinear upscaling, but, like, utterly scuffed lol Even here they mention that the actual resolution doesn't seem to be all that different than vanilla, pssr just puts in the work. @@ehcor On the one hand it serves people to say "UE4 is better, devs can get things done faster" and on the other "calm down cuz it's UE4, not an in-house engine". Like, pick a side.
When shown side by side Performance mode was truly a blurry mess. I only played the game in performance mode and always felt like I needed glasses because it's so blurry like you are losing vision. But I've played lower res games on PS4 that run at like 900p and these were not that blurry like FF7 Rebirth's performance mode. It's so weird.
Square Enix just didn't want another half billion in sales - apparently, their accounting department said it would hurt them financially to take dollars at 50% higher value than the Yen and their bank account would overflow so they butchered the visual quality to lower sales🙂
@@wishingW3L so when the game launched, it looked blurry, and they made that the performance smooth mode after a patch. They released a new mode in the same patch called performance sharp that reduced the amount of smoothing that was in the game and I think it was a better looking version of the performance mode. For some reason, digital foundry did not want to use that mode in the footage to see how the best looking 60 FPS mode would look compared to the PS5 Pro. It feels a little disingenuous to take the worst looking mode and compare it to the new console.
@@Haybud maybe...I didn't think performance sharp helped at all on a 65" tv. It was still messier when comparing how good forbidden west looked. Though it took forbidden west like 3 years to get that ultimate 60fps/resolution right.
Being a primary PC gamer with lots of frames I ended up completing the game all in Graphics mode. I got used to the 30 FPS but couldn't get used to the blurry performance mode. This will be awesome with higher frames.
Sadly, Sony and third party developers have very little incentive to improve base PS5 game modes on already released games now. As a manufacturer, Sony likely wants there to be clear selling points for their new console hardware.
@@SIPEROTH Due to Sony having a timed exclusivity deal with Square, they have the ability to incentivise them to improve the optimisation. They are paying for their customers to have the experience before other platforms, so they do have a say in what meets their quality guidelines, and what doesn't. They obviously just thought that it was "good enough" to not push for an FSR update.
no its not . use your brain to think why sony wouldnt do this . its simple they dont want to make the ps5 look extremely bad compared to ps5 pro like this video shows . the only thing they could really show was frame rate since it still make the ps5 game visuals look good but show the appeal of the ps5 pro frame rate
The fact they used that as the thumbnail, they have to be being cheeky. Honestly the improvements are pretty nice. More clarity and higher frames are allways appreciated. Better than I initially thought.
The reveal of this console should have been this game, Star Wars Outlaws / Avatar Frontiers of Pandora / ANY game with image quality issues on base PS5, and then maybe a good RT showcase. I don't know what they were thinking when they decided on what games would be focused on. TLOU2 for example - a PS4 game ported to PS5 that never really had image quality issues.
Because they don't own those other games, they need signoff from their partners, and I doubt their partners want to show off the base PS5 versions looking like poop, like Rebirth does in performance mode. Wasn't Hogwarts the only third party game shown off?
@@HastyElderHaman At the end of the presentation when they showed a bunch of games on the ps5 pro they showed Hogwarts Legacy, FF7 Rebirth, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Alan Wake 2, Dragons Dogma 2 and Immortals of Aveum. But I agree with the OP, they could’ve used better examples.
If they'd shown games with issues then they'd basically be trashing those developers in doing so. It's not a great idea to put your partners on blast, so they went with games that they worked on and optimized in house-which backfired in its own right.
I don’t think the other companies would like Sony walking up and going “here’s how the pro looks compared to the ps5 on this game, look at how bad the ps5 version looks guys, let’s zoom in just to see how terrible it is”. Don’t think they’d agree to being shit talked about their development skills.
The rebirth on OG PS5 is a scam. I was quite confused about why they didn't apply any upscaling back then and now I see it, if the devs simply add FSR2 to the performance mode on OG PS5, the PS5 Pro version won't have a chance to improve the image quality in a meaningful way.
The message I felt from Sony and Digital's analysis is that the PS5 Pro only exists to fix the problems in games that the developers themselves were unable to fix.
I dont believe square is unable just incompetent let's remember when they released the demo they had to patch it bc the file were compressed and the graphics was shit
A more powerful system genuinely doesn't matter. Developers have always made games more demanding than what consoles can handle. Watch when the ps6 vs ps6 pro video get released a decade from now
Finally, someone showing differences that can actually be seen. I feel like the poor optimization for FF7 Rebirth and FF16 are more to blame than any lack of power on the PS5's part. Playing InterMISSION was buttery smooth 60 fps and still looks crystal clear. I'll be interested to see how the Pro looks compared to the base system on a game that wasn't optimized terribly right out the gate.
This makes me get a little conspiratorial. This game should not look this bad on the regular ps5. It’s almost like it’s intentional to make people want to get the pro. I’m sure this game will look amazing on my pc eventually.
It's embarrassing for Square that PS5's hardware is what was needed to make FF7R not look like a blurry mess on console. Developers really are unlearning how to optimise games since the introduction of a crutch known as upscalers
I disagree about them switching to UE5 for part 3. I want to play this game in next few years & them developing it with custom tools made for UE4 will make the game better.
Well in practice, yeah there are Some big changes between UE4 and UE5, but basicly all the features of UE4 are still there. So switching still would take quite Some time, but its not like rebuilding the entire thing.
It's an old and lost time where developers actually used the hardware at their best to give the best experience to the player they could. Now it's just like a "let's make it as fast as possible, a pro will come out soon anyways"
the softness in this game was always strange --- 1080p can look very well resolved, there's a lot of information to work with there and many PS4 games or even Xbone games at 900p look better resolved than Rebirth. that the PS5 Pro is needed to fix this remains a real head scratcher!
This would actually make this game playable. I played the original but the image was so bad it actually gave me a headache. The game was just so blurry and stuttery, its honestly unacceptable
The game still isn't playable graphics aside gameplay is mostly a bunch of busywork to keep streamers occupied for as long as possible i hate how much padding they throw in towards the end Temple Of The Ancients was such a slog just like Hojos lab by the end of that Hell you're begging for it just to end
The only thing unreasonable about the Pro is that it lacks a built in disk drive. The GPU is about 45% more performance before you even get to the other rendering technologies that it offers, like Ray Tracing and the temporal upscaling. It's SSD is also twice the size, which does slightly alleviate the lack of disk drive. If you're happy with the base PS5, this is not a necessary upgrade and you should keep the base model. If you're sometime who craves premium graphics at high frame rates and you can afford it, then this becomes a valid consideration
Not really it's still an awful game totally unbalanced boss encounters incredibly lame minigames (Lookin at you Moggles) I will always say don't waste your money people Square is giving you bad games with buggy performance on purpose
Can't play my copy of Rebirth because the pro doesn't have a disc drive and I don't want to buy a disc drive as an "accessory" for a pro console. Quality mode on the PS5 Amateur will serve me just fine!
its a nice upgrade not gonna lie, but honestly for that price i think building a pc is a better deal, eventually you get better prices, community fixes, mods... just my opinion.
4k60fps...what we were supposed to get with the based ps5 and series x...hate this gen😢. Hope ps6 and next xbox will deliver 4k60fps AND 4k textures+ high end ray tracing...just dreaming I know 😅
OK ok ok... You can tell the difference clearly, but, how much did you have to zoom in the screen for the differences to show? I don't play with my nose pressed up to the screen you know.
This is game of the year for me! It was frustrating to see how blurred performance mode was... so I played on graphics mode and had a great time overall. I'm not gonna waste money on a ps5 pro obviously, so I'll wait for the PC version to replay it at 60fps with higher resolution and better ambient occlusion/anti-aliasing options...and mods! My 450 dollars ps5 slim is just a retrocompatbile playstation/blu-ray player at this point.
That's cool. I went through it in 30fps because the performance modes were just too blurry for me. It ran at a perfectly fine 30fps and looked sharp enough, so aside from it not being 60fps, the ghosting was the main visual drawback to me with the low poly textures on close view being somewhat negligible. Unfortunately, there's not much reason for me to go back to Rebirth, so this doesn't grab me. It would have been nice to have when going through it though! That all said, DF is doing a good job furthering the lack of want for the PS5 Pro with some of the drawbacks (even if overall it does technically look better).
My worry is, what if console manufacturers cannot get prices down, and if the next generation is just as or more expensive than the Pro. We may be reaching a point where an improvement in tech/graphics might be outside of the price range of what a console is supposed to be, affordable. We need to see big improvements in upscaling tech, to do more with less and still have a great image quality. People are hurting financially, and I'm wondering if we'll reach a point where the console hardware market is no longer viable.
the fact that so many other PS5 games in Performance Mode perform much better than FF7 Rebirth in Performance Mode confirms to me that the huge leap up graphically from the PS5 to the PS5 Pro versions is due to poor optimization by Square. much more so than to the superior power of the PS5 Pro.
This is a dev problem, they should’ve fixed their game before all this mess. People have been bringing up these issues since the game dropped and they didn’t do shit. Now all of a sudden it’s thanks to the PS5 Pro. To me that’s a bunch of bs. Learn how to optimize your damn game before release. There’s just no excuse at this point. This is just the PS4 bull shit all over again. Trying to justify why people need to go and spend an additional $1000 incl. the stand and disk drive after taxes is just absurd! I’m sorry but this just gets me more upset. I’ll stick to my PC I’m just kinda done with PlayStation now.
Why does everyone mention buying a stand? Also SE messing up their PS5 version is not the fault of Sony. Of course their more powerful console will somehow fix a lot of the bad work of SE but how is that their fault?
@@SIPEROTH Why does Sony advertise the console standing upright? Clearly because that's how it's meant to be and just because Sony arbitrarily decided to sell the stand separately does not change this fact
@@teapouter -_- Emm.....I don't know what is wrong with you people but PS5 consoles stand just fine by themselves. They need no stand. I have one right next to my TV standing up. No stand needed. Seriously this is misinformation galore by people that never used a PS5.
Yeah it's bad optimization compensated for by excessive hardware. That's why they come out with these "pro" consoles. This game, and a few others that are poorly optimized, should have no problem on PS5. Not spending $700 (minimum) for a slightly prettier version of a game I already beat. The PS6 will be out in 2-3 years. What games coming out between now and then justify the PS5 pro? This generation has barely any game currently. You can barely justify the cost of the base console, let alone a pro version. The only game that anyone is remotely excited for is GTA 6 and I can guarantee they are going to use the PS6 to get the most out of it. Hell, I would be shocked if the PS5 pro even has a 60 fps mode. If it does, it will probably be 720p upscaled like every other "next gen" release they currently have.
Thanks for proving to me that my PS5 is just fine. I don't need to drop $700 just to see my games in a higher frame rate. I'll stick to my 4K graphics mode as I always have, I prefer that resolution and a more cinematic frame rate for my action games.
The PS5 Pro is still not worth 700 bucks. We know why they decided to make it that price because they have to make up for their loss in investing into really bad games. For any PS4 owners, the PS5 pro is worth it because it is a huge graphical improvement but still I'd advise them to just buy the PS5. For PC gamers who were really wanting to buy the PS5 Pro, it is just not worth it and upgrading our PC or creating a PS5 Killer with 700 bucks is much more worth it. For me, I just decided to buy the Legion Go for 600 bucks and still save 100 bucks where I used it to buy additional add ons to my Legion Go. I use my Legion as a handheld, console, and mini PC. I really wanted to buy the PS5 Pro and I just can't see the price to be worth it when I know Reshade can sharpen any games and we already have all the tech in our GPUs to do what the PS5 Pro is just about to do. And even though the PS5 Pro is already all sold out, I really wished they had not screwed up with their DEI games and simply made the PS5 Pro $550. Imagine having PC gamers' business as well - double and triple the money to be made.
All these people complaining about the Pro will hopefully make it easier to get before GTA 6. Just like the PS4 Pro, you dont want the little tech bump after 4 years; don't buy it. And if you're on PC, you damn sure shouldn't be complaining considering mid tier CPUs and GPUs get changed at about the same frequency. Lets not be frauds, this has always been the "game" in the industry.
The thing is, the PS5 hardly has anything on it that shows off ITS power.. and they're already releasing an upgraded system to ensure devs can continue to rush out lazy, unoptimized code, yet have slightly better performance (5 years in..)

I'll wait for it to be on PC. Yeah the PC is more expensive but I'm not gonna be able to easily to produce content out of a PS5 pro, the PC will provide far more value than just game platform.

For some reason, digital foundry did not want to use that mode in the footage to see how the best looking 60 FPS mode would look compared to the PS5 Pro. It feels a little disingenuous to take the worst looking mode and compare it to the new console.

The thumbnail is, quite literally, cheeky.

This game was clearly designed around the 30fps quality mode.
Só with ps5 pro I will be able to see Lucia in 4k with nice details ?
That's cool. I went through it in 30fps because the performance modes were just too blurry for me. It ran at a perfectly fine 30fps and looked sharp enough, so aside from it not being 60fps, the ghosting was the main visual drawback to me with the low poly textures on close view being somewhat negligible. Unfortunately, there's not much reason for me to go back to Rebirth, so this doesn't grab me. It would have been nice to have when going through it though! That all said, DF is doing a good job furthering the lack of want for the PS5 Pro with some of the drawbacks (even if overall it does technically look better).
Still a hard pass for me... I'll stick with my PS5 until the PS6 comes out in a few years.
What’s wrong with Cloud’s triceps at 7:15 on PS5 Pro 😂?
the fact that so many other PS5 games in Performance Mode perform much better than FF7 Rebirth in Performance Mode confirms to me that the huge leap up graphically from the PS5 to the PS5 Pro versions is due to poor optimization by Square. much more so than to the superior power of the PS5 Pro.

Yeah it's bad optimization compensated for by excessive hardware. That's why they come out with these "pro" consoles.

Insane they decided to show some dark images of TLOU 2 that I could even barely see what is going on instead of this.

@threestars2164 may be, but think about it for a moment. Remake was made and runs even on PS4. What is the difference between remake and the rebirth to justify sucesso difference and lower quality in rebirth? A game that only came out for PS5? It makes no sense.
It looks like a big improvement but that’s only because you’re LOOKING for it. The average person just playing the game will enjoy the game for what it is and how it is. YES it looks beautiful but these are close up guys don’t forget. You will not notice this in game with a base ps5. This is just another snake oil trick they’re trying to do to make you fomo into getting another ps5 that does the same thing. If you have a ps5 already, you don’t need this. $700 is a lot of money. Save it and stop stressing.
still not worth it
"the games vintange"
Brother what? The game that just released 7 months ago is vintage? You may want to choose more careful wording, because the game is not old, it's not even 8 months old. 6:32
The standard PS5 should have enough power to give us enough graphical fidelity with 60fps....
Hold on... y'all complained and made jokes about how you don't see a difference.. Well now that you see a difference it's a problem and you shouldn't have to pay for better hardware, the community is cooked 😂
Tell em jay!!
There was no reason the base PS5 should be that blurry, they should've just fixed that instead of making a "pro" mode.
PS5 vs PS5 pro show no different, people get Mad
PS5 vs PS5 pro Show really different, people get Mad.
😒😒😒
It's just jealous PC and X bots. And maybe some Mario mushroom gulps.
@@barulicksama3838 Bro how old are you? No one has anything to be jealous of stop drinking the koolaid.
@@barulicksama3838 Jealous PC lol what? We are laughing at both these consoles. The PS5 Pro does look good, it's a solid upgrade, but at that price might as well build a PC that lasts longer has no monthly fees and never any thought about backwards compat things just work forever. The only thing PC users are waiting for is Steam release of Rebirth and we know that's coming soon since XVI just came out.
@@JFinns Who the hell gonna spend that money buying a console when with a little bit you have a pc gaming that destroys all ps5 versions, also pc jealous?? i was playing cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing at 120 fps when ps5 struggles at 30 and so on with the others, this people gonna be scammed so hard 🤭🤭🤭
Hey bro, I just wanted to say that this is really good video, like everything I would emphasize is all you talked, nice. 😊
Look good at 60fps
