  • In this video the creator of Mushroom Wonderland, avid outdoorsman, and Vice President of the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society takes us on a fully immersive ASMR type hike into the south east Olympic Mountains to the Flapjack Lakes. An 18+ mi round trip hike up the North Fork of the Skokomish River, AKA 'the staircase,' which climbs high into the mountains of the beautiful and misty Pacific Northwest.
Along the way we will Identify several of the more common species of mushrooms you may encounter on a summer hike in the PNW. Also we will talk a little bit about some of the more interesting plants along the way, as well as how to tell the age of an old growth Douglas-fir tree.
The major difference in this video from most of the other videos that ytoull find on this channel is the amazing ASMR forest scenery and the absolute beauty of the river and the ancient old-growth forest.
Kick back and relax and check out this hike and make sure to subscribe to Mushroom Wonderland, hit that notification bell, give us a thumbs up, and leave a positive comment- we usually respond back.
Thanks for joining, now lets take a journey into Mushroom Wonderland...

I love that you identified both the fungus and the plants and trees you encountered. I’m a tree nerd as well as a mushroom nerd and this information is so helpful. 🍄

Thank you for the disclaimer about "medicinal" mushrooms much of the research is mixed only in petri dishes and mice that many people think are guaranteeds. Keep up the good work loved the channel since I found it, nothing wrong with not saying 100%.
Learned tons watching and exploring, also near the peninsula.

I love your videos they’re very informative I always point new mushroom hunters toward them to learn. You always ask for suggestions for contents and it would be great if you could take a mushroom side-by-side with two other ones that may look alike and compare them and explain the difference.

My favorite summer find was Butyriboletus abieticola.
    This is a great channel.
I've got lots of value from watching.
Also the pink tipped coral when young is pretty tastey. Similar to a Chantrelle.
Suillus found in summer are denser and when cooked right are pretty good.
In the fall you go for the tried and true favorites but in summer I'm more apped to try something new.
    That abieticola though.
    Even better than king boletes.
Nutty sweet, with a double crunch effect.
    Side note
I caught 12 prickleback eels poke poling this low tide.
There should be a tidepool sea weed camo.
    That would be cool.
    Now I'm rambling.
    Love this channel.
I been going by the old names and you keeping me updated.
    (I'm in south west Oregon)

4:35 you identify Salmonberry. Rubus spectabilis. However those are Rubus parviflorus, commonly called Thimbleberry. Thank you for all the great videos!

Agreed. Salmon berries have pink flowers and the leaves look more like raspberry leaves. Thimble berries have the giant "Land Before Time tree star" leaves with white flowers.

Hey, sessile is an adjective used to specify when a mushroom is growing from a substrate attached without some sort of stipe or receptacle. I guess what you meant to say, was laccate.
