Yay! I am so glad you did this video. I live down by Camas WA. I go to the Mt. Edwards area to mushroom hunt and have been waiting patiently for the season to start. I have only lived in WA for three years so I am still trying to figure things out. Last fall was really bad in this area due to the lack of rain. I hope this year is much better. I am trying to watch the tree leaf growth in your videos so I can estimate when the mushrooms will start growing in my area. Your videos are my favorite right now to watch. I watch a lot of mushroom videos, and I like your videos because, unlike other people that explain the features of different mushrooms, you provide a lot of context around the habitat, and you have a good pace. Other creators are just too slow and fill the video with way too much music and fluff. I almost feel like I am out there with you walking around.
Thank you! I live on 5 acres, mostly wetland western wa. Only the past 2 years started to harvest. A quickly edited video is awesome for me!! Lots of oysters on dead alders or cotton woods. I also have tons of what look like your surpher tuft. But mine don't google like them. Mine too dont look old, but gave firm, wavy tops. I have wanted to join a club.. but Covid shut down in person. Anyways... THANK YOU
Such great descriptions. I like hearing all the identifying factors and facts about the mushroom while looking at it. I also liked the graphic showing the Amanita "hatching" from its little egg.
Hi Aaron, love your videos! Ive been finding a lot of oysters on what i believe are some type of willows. I live down in southwest wa. We have lots of swampy areas along the Columbia and tributaries where there is lots of coton woods and alder, what i think are willows. Have you found the oysters on these trees?

that first mushroom is what paul stamets was talking about on joe rogans podcast, about the vikings taking that mushroom before battle and it was so toxic/psychedelic that it sent them into berserker rage
Hi Aaron, Question for you: you always show the diagram of how the mycelium connects to the tips of the smaller tree roots. Does this mean that bigger trees will grow mushrooms mainly further from the trunk? So if looking for mushrooms near large trees we should not be focused near the base of the tree?
I do think that is true to some extent. From what I understand that mycelium likes to tap into the young root tips, but it would be interesting to study that more. My illustration is very crude.
On the lbm I immediately called it that when I saw it. 😆 🤣 😂. I've also noticed that the cap seems pretty translucent. Does that make a difference in identification. With me I assume that they are one that will cook away to nothing so it usually goes into the lbm category to me.
Are there no spring kings where you live? Im from the netherlands we have almost no morels due to draught….. im learning a lot about american mushrooms from your vids btw, thanks for that and keep up the good work!
We have spring kings here, but they pretty much only grow on the east side of the mountains (where it's drier), which is a bit of a drive from where Aaron is based.
I just heard from a friend that Amanita Aprica contains the same chemicals as Amanita Mascaria and can be processed in the same ways to extract medicine. I expect they will be coming up here in the next couple of weeks as I am in the BC interior. I'll do some more research on them

Well, the "Admirable Boletes" Aureoboletus mirabilis is always growing on wood, which is strange because it's mycorrizal and loves wood, it is very velvety and a dark brownish purple with a yellow pore surface. They're quite distinct, and I have never seen one of those growing in the spring. But then again I have never seen the X.a. either. But B. mirabilis is one of my favorites! 🍄🤙

I live in a different region which has oftentimes different mushrooms, I suggest going on identification forums on Facebook and posting your pictures there. I can't possibly reply to all of the ID requests I get just from friends and family alone. Appreciate the watch though!

I thought it was interesting to find a few zellers about a week ago while out and about. I have never come across them in spring either!
Have you ever tried slipper jacks? They grow on my property but I’ve never tried them. I may give them a shot this year.
