I love this video. It makes me really miss living in the PNW. That is where I first developed the love of foraging 20 years ago. Now I'm living in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains in NW Georgia, learning all about the myco environment here
I love that you two took the time to show someone new to foraging around! I will never forget my first time finding a chanterelle...its so funny how something so small can be such a big deal. I still get excited when foraging, and the more I learn, the more I enjoy it. I'm a new member of the KPMS (this month was my first meeting). I am eager to learn more and get to know the locals in my mushroom community. Keep the videos coming! I love this channel
thanks for sharing your knowledge and Penny’s enthusiasm on this journey. I think I enjoy looking at mushrooms almost as much as I like eating them! this is good beginner information.
I always wash my channelle under water with a soft brush. Any watter added just cooks out. I add butter only after all the watter has evaporated out while sautéing. For me it makes it a lot easier to clean. Especially with the semi subterranean white chantrelle.
@@jdalkebmxgameplay9605 Love it here!!! How are you doing with your foraging in our beautiful county? This recent non-stop rain is really bringing out the fungi! In 20 min today I found & photographed 8 species on one of my trails I've created on my land. They're fascinating!!!
@@erinobrien8408 I haven't been out much do to having a new baby at home. But I'm thinking after all this rain I'll probably go hunting this weekend. I'd like to find some chanterelles locally. I've found a lot of them out in granite falls area but have yet to find them around me. My yard is full of white coral mushrooms right now though and it looks really cool. 😂
@@jdalkebmxgameplay9605 😁 I feel your parent pain! My boys are over 35 but I remember it well!! Don't worry, I was able to get some sleep without worrying about them as early as when they were 30!!!

I have found chanterelles in the snow before.. NEVER later than December tho. What I'm desperate to find is a gosh danged chicken of the woods! It has escaped me for years
Honestly though...what's up with with chicken of the woods? Bright colors and everything and I can only find the dead ones. I've got a couple spots marked I'm going to check next year. I've been looking for only a couple years myself. Park on a logging road find or make a trail.
@@your_eulogy2688 yeah I've also been looking for a couple years. My books say it's common which is super frustrating since I can't seem to find one haha
@@CascadeBackcountry 😆🍄 It might be easier if I would search when it's NOT raining cats and dogs! 😁 Well at my place, it rains cougars and bears!! Say, can you recommend a good local mushroom Facebook group?
In SC I find golden chanterelles in July in valleys, but only if there's been a good amount of rain. Maybe surprising, with the heat we have, but I've done it numerous times.
I know you don’t want to be a pest but you should always ask us watchers to respond, like and subscribe.. You do mention like and subscribe but I’ve yet to hear you ask for comments. It’s important bc the more interaction on your page, the better for the UA-cam algorithm. I appreciate your foraging videos so I’d love to see your channel become successful bc I know how much work goes into these videos Mush Love ✌️🍄
Thank you for your comment, I hate feeling like I'm pandering for comments or likes but it does really helps the algorithm and helps this channel reach more people. Appreciate your support.

The deer mushroom gets its name from the shape of the spores. Under microscope the spores look like there are "antlers" growing off of them. Deer mushrooms are said to be a bit radishy in flavor.
I found yellow foot chanterelles in spring. Is that the "winter chanterelle" you're talking about? I think they're supposed to grow in the winter. Micro climate like you were talking. Up around 2000ft snow still on the logging roads.
People have been known to find chanterelles along the Oregon Coast nearly year-round. I haven’t, personally, but I have found them in mid August on the coast
I actually went home and identified it that day. It is known as Picepes badius or the "black-footed polypore." But thank you. We have different Mycoflora here than in Pennsylvania, but a lot of them can look very similar. 👍🍄

I would be absolutely dumbfounded if anybody found a chanterelle in the dead of winter or spring in the pnw. It would be very interesting to see.
Are there poison ivy in PNW? I saw plenty of plants that have 3 leaves.
Good job

11:30 those don't have white pore surface and the caps are wavy, you sure on that ID?
I think that was a bad identification. 😐 Stereum hirsutum more likely.
Pennsylvania here, we have turkey tails, they mostly grow on black cherry tree logs.
