I have a couple of ideas for challenge runs, if you're getting writer's block thinking some up: First is with the Arbitration and War of the Commonwealth mods, so you're often coming across battles in progress. The second is a ghost run, using the Ultra Sneak Undetectable mod. You may spawn in the undetectable ring upon leaving the cryo chamber, and use the electric doors and computer of Vault 111 under the context of paranormal activity, but once on the surface, you can't use or move any items except quest items that companions could otherwise pick up if they weren't quest items, and you can't use any doors, with the exception of map change doors after a companion has used it. If your companion falls and requires a stimpak, treat it like a death and reload.
If you look closely, Hangman's Alley still has sidewalks with raised curbs along the walls, so it's safe to assume there _used_ to be Official Road there before the Fallout trademark Magically Appearing Rubble happened
Lol “magically appearing rubble” reminds me of the division 2 where there’s full trash bags EVERYWHERE stacked like a story high on every block. It’s absurd
I'm pretty sure it's all a walking path. The 3 entrances are built-in concrete stairs, through a building down some makeshift stairs, and a walkway that goes through an outdoor eating area. You could maybe get red rocket to work by using the chemistry station that's outside. That might make the workshop available, if you kill the mole rats first. Then just build things on the road.

I decided to try this challenge for myself because it looked fun and found that you can interact with the Red Rocket chem bench early on giving you a stable place before Hangman’s Alley.
Singing Sugar Ray randomly feels like a particularly deep cut. If I didn't have a 90s playlist, I couldn't guess the last time I heard "Every Morning" since it was actively on the Billboard charts.
You should totally be allowed to have settlements in the red rocket and starlight drive-in Also, I would love to see this challenge in Nuka-World and Far Harbor - too bad going to those places would involve leaving the road
Hot take about Hangman's Alley: just because it doesn't support cars doesn't mean it's not a road! It's designed for lots of foot traffic between the waterfront stores and the street, even having sides and pavement. It's just as much a road as Skyrim's walking paths
Because of you I was inspired to look at all the potential settlements in Fallout 4 to see which ones can be used while staying 100% on the road, and I found two. (or three if you count Hangman's Alley's alley as an actual road) The first is Egret Tours Marina, which is just down the road south of Diamond City. It basically amounts to a medium sized parking lot for Road Dweller purposes, nothing fancy but functional enough. Allying with it requires either stepping off the road to talk to some random old woman, or ordering your follower to open the door and then blindly lobbing grenades until you hit her with a bank shot. You'll probably want at least 5 or 6 grenades for this, unless you're really good at geometry. The second settlement is Jamaica Plain, due east of Egret Tours Marina, which has the much simpler task of killing about a dozen ghouls. This settlement basically amounts to 3 small separate strips of road that you'll have to hop in and out of the creation menu to make use of, since the settlement is primarily centered on the house and sidewalks around it. So if you ever want to expand your control over the roads of the Commonwealth, or if anyone wants to do a similar challenge but thinks using a back alley is cheating, swing by those areas.
Hangman's alley is one of my very favorite settlements. I loved building it into a 3-tiered Chinatown type city! Love your vids joov thank you for letting us watch for free
I am very happy to see Chanel’s making challenges for this game even today still. It’s been a decade since it’s first announcement. And Starfield is around the corner.
I actually have used the fetch mechanic a ton. Companions have infinite carry weight when you tell them to pick stuff up. I would use this to clear buildings in one trip. I did, however, drive my wife crazy with the amount of "grab that", "pick that up", and "see if they had anything useful" voice lines she had to hear on repeat 😅
@@errohaze2683 I usually just pick everything up and then put it in one container and ask them to pick it up until it's empty. I wish they could clear containers with one command.
So, correct me if I'm wrong, but you can actually get a settlement aside from Hangman's Alley, that being Red Rocket. You definitely can't get to the settlement workbench, but you should still be able to unlock it as a settlement by going to the chemistry set, which is just off a truck stop area, which is definitely allowed, and trying to open it's inventory, which for some reason unlocks it as a settlement. Edit: Well Damn, I tested it and this is actually wrong, you have to start crafting in order to unlock a settlement, and the chemistry workbench at RR is positioned just barely so that you have to step on the sidewalk to craft at it. However, if there are any other crafting stations available from the road, this could be an avenue for other settlements to be unlocked, even if the main workbench is unavailable
Playing at home, and I think the best way (only way?) to get a Dr on a road is to push to County Crossing and fast travel there until Doc Weathers shows up. I would argue the area next to the workshop is a road (it has cars parked on it) but if not just intercept Weathers on the road when he's leaving or arriving.
I was looking at what places you could use as shelters other than that little alley so some ideas are: Jamaica Plain is literally a giant neighborhood, Somerville Place I don't know if it's connected to the road but you can unlock it without entering a place and the most obvious one Starlight Drive In although it would be dific to unlock it because its workbench is inside a house
No doubt, I hear ya. I have several planned. This was originally supposed to be Skyrim Iron Man 2. Even I was a bit nervous like "ehh that's a LOT of Fallout 4 lately"....more soon!
If you can only go on roads then Why did you not use starlight drivein ? Starlight drive in has more space for crops, place for waterpurifier, and it is a drive in so cars drive in there and stop AND since cars drive on roads and they can also stop on roads with this logic it is valid for the challenge right ?
Companions can carry infinite weight, specifically by commanding them to pick something up. You can only load them so much but can command them to grab guns and what not and they will put it in even if they are over capacity. Used it on my first survival playthrough.
I wasn't able to activate the workbench, but I went into this committed to using Hangman's Alley regardless. Starlight Drive-In is super OP and I think it would've made the run less rewarding. Good opportunity to try a settlement spot I've never used too!
Hangman's Alley is the best settlement home base in Survival. Right by Diamond City and fairly centralized. Easy path south all the way to Egret Tours Marina.
I've chatted about it a few times on stream, but in order to continue that series it would need a full reboot. I became too removed from the footage to really get motivated or excited about any of it. I would like to try it again someday from scratch on Survival Mode since I still remember a lot of the loot spots there
Ok it took 3 minutes for this vid to say something lore unfriendly there are no gas pumps as there's not enough gas for cars those are coolant pumps for the collant used in the nuclear Generator used in car's
Hangman’s Alley is actually my default base settlement for any survival runs. It’s close to Diamond City, can produce excess food and water, is relatively safe to clear out, and comes with multiple crafting stations to start.
Railroads as Roads: An In-Depth Analysis and Scientific Perspective Abstract: This comprehensive analysis explores the notion of considering railroads as roads, elucidating the scientific arguments supporting this concept. By examining transportation infrastructure, functionality, accessibility, integration, safety, economic significance, legal considerations, and empirical data, we establish a compelling case for the classification of railroads as roads. 1. Introduction: Transportation systems are vital for societal development and connectivity. Traditionally, the term "road" has been associated with paved surfaces for vehicular transportation. However, a broader perspective encompasses railroads within the definition of roads, considering their similarities in purpose, infrastructure, and utility. This analysis aims to provide a scientific understanding of how railroads embody the characteristics of roads. 2. Transportation Infrastructure: Both roads and railroads serve as critical components of transportation infrastructure, providing dedicated pathways for the movement of goods and passengers. Railways, like roads, facilitate efficient and safe transportation over long distances, connecting various locations within a region or country. 3. Functionality: Railroads and roads share a common purpose, enabling the movement of people and freight from one place to another. Railways offer an efficient mode of transportation for heavy loads, akin to roads accommodating vehicular traffic. Moreover, railway stations function as intersections, allowing passengers to board or disembark trains, similar to road intersections facilitating the flow of traffic. 4. Accessibility: Railroads, like roads, enhance accessibility to different areas, connecting cities, towns, and remote regions. Railways often traverse terrains where constructing roads may be impractical or costly, such as mountains, deserts, or dense forests. This aspect highlights the inclusive nature of railroads as a form of transportation infrastructure. 5. Integration with the Transportation Network: Railroads are seamlessly integrated into comprehensive transportation networks, connecting with roads, ports, and airports. This integration facilitates the smooth transfer of goods and passengers between different modes of transportation, promoting overall connectivity and enhancing logistical efficiency. 6. Safety and Regulations: Similar to roads, railroads are subject to safety regulations, inspections, and maintenance practices to ensure secure operations. Railways employ designated crossings and signals to prevent accidents and ensure orderly traffic flow, mirroring the safety considerations applied to roads. 7. Economic Significance: Railroads play a pivotal role in driving economic growth and development. They efficiently transport raw materials, finished goods, and resources, supporting industries across diverse sectors. Their ability to handle bulk transportation, such as coal, ores, or agricultural products, contributes significantly to trade and economic prosperity. 8. Legal and Administrative Considerations: The legal frameworks governing transportation systems often encompass railroads within the broader category of "roads." Laws, regulations, and policies related to roads typically apply to railways as well, recognizing their shared purpose and functional characteristics. 9. Empirical Data: Global statistics reveal the substantial extent of rail networks worldwide, exceeding 1.1 million kilometers. Railways contribute significantly to both freight and passenger transportation. In 2019, railways accounted for approximately 7.4% of global freight transport and carried over 2.7 billion passengers. Additionally, rail transport's energy efficiency, safety record, and environmental benefits underscore its compatibility with the concept of roads. 10. Conclusion: Through an in-depth scientific analysis, it is evident that railroads possess numerous attributes aligning them with the notion of roads. The convergence of transportation infrastructure, functionality, accessibility, integration, safety, economic significance, legal considerations, and empirical data supports the classification of railroads as roads. Acknowledging railroads as roads fosters a comprehensive understanding of transportation systems, facilitating effective planning, regulation, and optimization of societal mobility and economic development.

This here's a guy with street smarts. A man with avenue academia! A dude with cul-de-sac cleverness! A chap with boulevard brains!
Hangman's alley is one of my very favorite settlements. I loved building it into a 3-tiered Chinatown type city! Love your vids joov thank you for letting us watch for free
The person who said that Dogmeat is immortal does not know Survival Mode 😂
Wait he's not? I've done multiple survival playthoughs and he's never died.
Googled it. He can't die.
I tried those with my wife and they don't work so well.
Oh, I didn't know that, I'll have to try that! The worst thing about not using mods is not being able to have multiple companions be my pack mules.
@@errohaze2683 I usually just pick everything up and then put it in one container and ask them to pick it up until it's empty. I wish they could clear containers with one command.
Great video. I very much appreciate the use of the drg soundtrack too
Only settlement on the road, eh? Not counting Sanctuary, the Truck Stop or the Drive-in Theater?
Factual and Non-Negotiable. Go to the Principal's Office.
Twitch chat gave him a ton of crap about his choice of settlement, so don't worry he knows his choice was dodgy, but for narrative's sake it works.
The jak and daxter sandover village music bought back so many memories, thankyou joov
I have trained you well. 😌
(WILLIAM BTW)
OMG
You should have been pinned lol
WILLIAM
Hangman's alley really is the best location for survival. Centrally located and easy to defend.
i love your videos but please do more skyrim challenge ones
No doubt, I hear ya. I have several planned. This was originally supposed to be Skyrim Iron Man 2. Even I was a bit nervous like "ehh that's a LOT of Fallout 4 lately"....more soon!
@@Joov I look foward to watching it
Some of the fights remind me of the urban maps on Battlefield. I've never had Fallout feel like that before. Awesome challenge!
If you can only go on roads then Why did you not use starlight drivein ? Starlight drive in has more space for crops, place for waterpurifier, and it is a drive in so cars drive in there and stop AND since cars drive on roads and they can also stop on roads with this logic it is valid for the challenge right ?
the jak & daxter music makes this video even better
Pretty sure the reason Ada refused to loot that one cow was because she didn't have enough carrying capacity to carry the items
Companions can carry infinite weight, specifically by commanding them to pick something up. You can only load them so much but can command them to grab guns and what not and they will put it in even if they are over capacity. Used it on my first survival playthrough.
It was because the fence was in the way, AI pathing in fallout 4 is pretty jank at times
The railroad uses roads when moving synths such as in the quest with stockton, therefor, if the railroad can use a road, a road can use a railroad.
Couldn't you have used starlight drive in as a base? I mean it's meant for cars to drive on it, it's in the name
I wasn't able to activate the workbench, but I went into this committed to using Hangman's Alley regardless. Starlight Drive-In is super OP and I think it would've made the run less rewarding. Good opportunity to try a settlement spot I've never used too!
@@Joov Hangman's isn't a road, there's no way for cars to enter or exit.
@@Tensen01there was, until the rubble and raiders transformed the area
Hangman's Alley is the best settlement home base in Survival. Right by Diamond City and fairly centralized. Easy path south all the way to Egret Tours Marina.
Enjoyed this immensely! VODs were lots of fun too.
What happened to the glowing sea
I've chatted about it a few times on stream, but in order to continue that series it would need a full reboot. I became too removed from the footage to really get motivated or excited about any of it. I would like to try it again someday from scratch on Survival Mode since I still remember a lot of the loot spots there
Wow. Didn't know Dogmeat could disarm mines. I'm learning so much about fallout from this channel.
Have you done any challenges in VR? I think that would be fun to watch
It's my first time seeing a main channel video after I watched your streams, and it's an absolute pleasure to see how you work.
Ok it took 3 minutes for this vid to say something lore unfriendly there are no gas pumps as there's not enough gas for cars those are coolant pumps for the collant used in the nuclear Generator used in car's
Yeah when I played fallout 4 I got confused about the gas and thought that what it was too, the prices are something to note too
@@hans5500 interesting
Wow. Nobody cares if it's not "gas" it's still fuel. That's just being pedantic. 😂
@ZaleraArkanus666 indeed ^w^
holy mother of Jesus. You just brought back so many memories. The Joystick in the ad segment is the exact one i had as a kid.
been watching for a while and I would pay to see way more fallout 4 on this channel
Hangman’s Alley is actually my default base settlement for any survival runs. It’s close to Diamond City, can produce excess food and water, is relatively safe to clear out, and comes with multiple crafting stations to start.
"Sugar Ray, save me" is something I say surprisingly often as well.
I love Spray and Pray. This is really fun to watch. It's been the highlight of my day.
Railroads as Roads: An In-Depth Analysis and Scientific Perspective
Abstract:
This comprehensive analysis explores the notion of considering railroads as roads, elucidating the scientific arguments supporting this concept. By examining transportation infrastructure, functionality, accessibility, integration, safety, economic significance, legal considerations, and empirical data, we establish a compelling case for the classification of railroads as roads.
1. Introduction:
Transportation systems are vital for societal development and connectivity.
2. Transportation Infrastructure:
Both roads and railroads serve as critical components of transportation infrastructure, providing dedicated pathways for the movement of goods and passengers. Railways, like roads, facilitate efficient and safe transportation over long distances, connecting various locations within a region or country.
3. Functionality:
Railroads and roads share a common purpose, enabling the movement of people and freight from one place to another. Railways offer an efficient mode of transportation for heavy loads, akin to roads accommodating vehicular traffic. Moreover, railway stations function as intersections, allowing passengers to board or disembark trains, similar to road intersections facilitating the flow of traffic.
4. Accessibility:
Railroads, like roads, enhance accessibility to different areas, connecting cities, towns, and remote regions. Railways often traverse terrains where constructing roads may be impractical or costly, such as mountains, deserts, or dense forests. This aspect highlights the inclusive nature of railroads as a form of transportation infrastructure.
5. Integration with the Transportation Network:
Railroads are seamlessly integrated into comprehensive transportation networks, connecting with roads, ports, and airports. This integration facilitates the smooth transfer of goods and passengers between different modes of transportation, promoting overall connectivity and enhancing logistical efficiency.
6. Safety and Regulations:
Similar to roads, railroads are subject to safety regulations, inspections, and maintenance practices to ensure secure operations. Railways employ designated crossings and signals to prevent accidents and ensure orderly traffic flow, mirroring the safety considerations applied to roads.
7. Economic Significance:
Railroads play a pivotal role in driving economic growth and development. They efficiently transport raw materials, finished goods, and resources, supporting industries across diverse sectors. Their ability to handle bulk transportation, such as coal, ores, or agricultural products, contributes significantly to trade and economic prosperity.
8. Legal and Administrative Considerations:
The legal frameworks governing transportation systems often encompass railroads within the broader category of "roads." Laws, regulations, and policies related to roads typically apply to railways as well, recognizing their shared purpose and functional characteristics.
9. Empirical Data:
Global statistics reveal the substantial extent of rail networks worldwide, exceeding 1.1 million kilometers.
10. Conclusion:
Through an in-depth scientific analysis, it is evident that railroads possess numerous attributes aligning them with the notion of roads.
Joov your editing is getting better and better. Absolutely love it!
Please come back to this it's such a good series idea the progression to beating the game only using the road while building ur settlement would be so good
Love the honor that prisoner has. Breaks out, defends the camp, then jumps right back in. They may be imprisoned, but that isn't gonna stop them from doing community service.
Shaun not having a baby-sized pod is weird. Cryogenics are hard enough as it is, but they successfully froze an adult with a baby, two individuals with different metabolic rates and other things. I mean, _maybe_ cryogenics have advanced in-universe to the point where it's possible to do this without any side effects on either individual, but there's nothing to suggest this anywhere.
Thanks for the link! Love your stuff, keep up the good work! 😂👍🏻
I just realized Jak and Dextar music is in the background and I'm all for it
I just started my own playthrough on the road inspired by your video.
My reason not just because I'm inspired by your video because I feel as if your challenge is make you experience the game on its terms. You make a game of the game. Thus, you have to experience mechanics and rules that while not intended to be at the forefront are made to be that way by the challenge and in a way you are creating your own game. Fallout no longer is a sandbox, but it is a corridor shooter
By thinking in a box you've ironically thought out of it Joov, so thank you you've made fallout as well as many other games much more enjoyable for me
I think the mod called lootable cars would make an awesome addition to this channel
Also side goal is to collect as many mini nukes as possible kinda like the Skyrim buckets except nukes
maybe starlight drive-in and sunshine tidings coop count as in-road settlements? More space for crops would be useful
Everyone's Best Friend is the mandatory first mod I toss onto fresh installs, so no love lost here.
The editing is really really good. I've been working on a youtube project myself, and I realised that eddeting takes 10 times longer then to actually play the game. Mad respect to you dawg great video
By far your best video, when is pt 2?
Honestly, i like turning off the compass just because following the road and using the map is a lot funner.
GeoWizard - Birmingham No Roads Mission
Joov - Fallout 4 without leaving the road
glad to say i watched a large chunk of this on stream and i thoroughly enjoyed it
This has been the most entertaining video I've seen in about 6 months. Easiest sub of my life.
Joov with the crash team racing soundtrack… how do u always manage to use such bangers
Hangman’s ally is my favorite Settlement.
I like to build up word ground floor being the work bench and shops. Second floor having a sentry nest and living quarters.
You can use a garden plot to expand the amount of land you have to grow crops
Wouldn't want to walk a mile in those radiated shoes
41:10 "AAAH, SAVE ME PRIVATE PROPERTY!" is maybe the most succinct summary of Fallout as a setting, period.
"Capillaries of content delivery" sounds like tracks definitely fit your definition
Wearing the strongest armor can help you not die.
You can also do a run that is the same as this but you include concrete as something you can be on
I love how everybody is ignoring the better settlement he could have used... Starlight Drive In. Cause the argument for Red Rocket Truck Stop applies here too. The cars have to be able to drive into their spots to watch a movie.
You can't access the workshop at starlight drive in without leaving the road
@hayato1886 Yes you can just not from the side towards sanctuary.
