What i think is the reason plp liked the Miis was because it was **their** character playing the games. Like they could go racing with Nintendo characters, saving the world and other peoples faces, or just play sports and even more. But these character looks really hard to be creative with, and they are honestly closer to some sort of Gacha Life OC but in 3D than anything else, and you only see them in this specific game, unlike the Miis. So all of this looks more unnecessary than anything else. So ig thanks Nintendo, you took away the one thing everyone liked about Wii Sports lol.
i like the sportsmates, they're cute, i see the appeal, but having them replace miis and with such a same-y look feels so cheap and like such a dirty trick.
They missed one of the reasons people liked miis in the first place with these characters. Once Switch sports is dead they'll be stuck there. Miis could exist in several different games. Heck they can travel between consoles. The Mii I use to represent myself on switch is the exact same one from my 3DS, who I created to look like almost an exact replica of the one I used for myself on the Wii. I don't look like him very much anymore but I've grown attached to that design. It reminds me of my childhood.
4:59 Miitopia was literally one of the funnest Switch games released, even when it wasn’t originally on the Switch. Man, Miitopia was such a good game!!!
I remember waiting for that game to come out on the 3ds for months until it was out and getting it the exact day it came out on the west. I have spent over 150 hours on the game and another 10 hours ON THE FREAKING DEMO- I have loved that game for years and will continue to no matter what
The biggest gripe I have with the game is that its using the "release it now, fix it later" approach. Wii can't even use the leg strap accessory at launch! (I'm not sorry for that pun)
The saddest part is that there IS a revamped version of the Mii system (and I don't just mean the makeup system in Miitopia)! It's just... only used internally. Not exposed to the end user at all. They're called uMiis, and they were used to make nearly ALL of the NPCs in Breath of the Wild. People even found out how to mod the game and make NPCs look like whatever Miis they want! Why this new system remains obscured is absolutely baffling to me.
cool fact: pressing ZL + L or ZR + R on the CPU selection screen will cause the CPU to be a mii. (Also, playing on Chambara against a max-difficulty CPU gives it a chance to be… THE ONE! THE ONLY… MATT FROM WII SPORTS OH MY GOD!)
Considering it had a similar attach-rate as Splatoon which has since gone on to be a huge series, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Nintendo Land 2 someday.
when I heard that I was like "I KNOW RIGHT!" the locations just look so uninspired, maybe that would change if you could actually explore them, but im not trying to do a sword battle in a library
I agree 100%. This game just doesn't look right. This has to be one of the biggest missed opportunities nintendo has made. I don't hate the game but it breaks tradition.
@@jimmyrobertson9118 booooooooo booooooooo It does break tradition those characters make me want to throw up, I grew up on wii sports and I played that since I was like 2 years old until my wii broke in 2017
I unironically like the sportsmates, they've grown on me since the game's announcement, though they could use a bit more customizability. Also Tennis and Badminton are objectively different games with different strategies. In tennis you tire out your opponent by making them run back and forth across the court, and in Badminton you want to try and force your opponent back to catch them with a drop shot
If there's going to be a Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, then make it like Wii Sports Resort but on steroids. Have the same activities but add all activities from the Wii Fit series (which also takes place in Wuhu Island), Pilotwings Resort and some new activities (like swimming, etc.). Also have a free roam mode. I mean, Wuhu Island is basically made for that with so much to discover and hanging out with your Mii characters! Entering some buildings like restaurants, hotels, home (which you can customize and maybe even have a pet) for immersion/RP stuff. I mean, GO Vacation kinda managed to do that. Also have more freedom like swimming and freediving to take pictures of fishes or other stuff you can do underwater. It would be also cool to be able to "register" Mii characters as NPC's, so you can change their clothes for free roam, swim, activities, etc. This would be an instant buy from me.
I absolutely agree with the last sentiment. I really want a HD Wuhu Island with even more details and spots of interest. I want to bike around the island, take a ferry to new content island, go there by plane myself or even just jetski into the sunset. Videos games are so often an escape from reality or the limitations of reality. Just let me do what I want to like Wii Sports Resort did. Give me an objective but don't force me into it. Give me a world that is canon and a trip to memory lane as well as a road into the future. Think about it like the addition of Wedge Island to Wuhu Island. I want that kind of stuff. I'm so surprised how this beautiful escape of an island, where you can jog on the roofs of the city with your dog, has not come back yet. It was so integrally important to games like Pilotwings and then even came back for two (2!!!) Tracks in Mario Kart 7 and as a battle track in MK8! How is this island paradise suddenly non existent anymore?!? Why can I no longer visit the big cedar tree infront of the magna cave entrance? Why do I have to endure a perfect holiday spot that feels more and more like a insanely well made prototype, waiting to unfold it's full potential? Do they just not care? Do they not remember? Or are they maybe working on it tirelessly without us knowing and soon we will get a Wuhu Island that has been in the works for 10+ years? I hope the latter, but we all know that even a fraction of that hope would be enough... As long as it got those adorable Mii's and charm of a true "Nintendo Island".
wuhu island was only in the original wii sports running sport, why would it be here? if/when they make a switch sports resort i would expect to see it there a lot of people comparing switch sports to wii sports resort and while it would be cool to have resort gameplay i wouldnt have expected it
Now that we have an “actual” predecessor, I can now say in confidence that Go Vacation is the real sequel. Not made by the same people and coming from the people who made We Ski. Anyway this game to me is 10 times more fun than the others because of its like a thousand games and the open world. No nastolga tied to it but still a great game. Try it out porfavor
the lack of a “mii” franchise of games is the biggest crime nintendo has committed , just swap out the wii and now you have “mii sports” , “mii fit” , “mii party” , “mii2” idk
Man, miis would've made a great consistent thing throughout Nintendo's IPs and consoles The 3DS added a tonne of features to Miis, why couldn't the Switch? There could've been so much more customisation and representation of players
One of the only redeeming factors of the Sportsmates for me is the squirrel. That's it lol Also I seriously love the new design for your character. I know that's got nothing to do with the video topic, but I just wanted to say it anyway fdsjnafiujoasbfhuoisd

You have the cutest artstyle ever! You even managed to make the sportsmates kind of cute!?!? I love your character and it's been great seeing its design improve over time
Maybe it's me, but I guess I didn't think of Ring Fit Adventure as part of "the casual" franchise. I kind of like as it's own thing & is more of a bridge between "traditional" video games & fitness video games. This fitness themed """RPG""" world where the monsters are exercise equipment, potions are smoothies, & the elements are Arms, Torso, Legs, & Yoga. It's so earnest in it's theming that I kind of love it. I'm so used to the design & theming that it feels weird to say it should have been Mii's. Edit: I want to add to the point that this game is a bridge. I play the adventure mode as part of my routine, but I play it like a "normal" game. In fights I try to balance the most damaging attacks with the ones that I feel like I'm capable of performing. Going thru the routes & wanting to grab all the shines require physical exertion(not much, but still). Wanting to 100% complete it, forces me to do all the side levels & challenges. Which in turn, force me to vary up the exercises I do.
Bro, Wii Sports was such a big part of my childhood, hell maybe my first video game, and SPECIFICALLY bowling. In bowling, 80% of the time I would accidentally throw the ball back which always pissed me off lmao. Miis are so uncannily expressive and funny that even if you try to make a normal face it’ll still be hilarious, the new guys just look.. dead. Like they knew their own design sucked. I had the same reaction you did my guy, and Miitopia was one of my favorite games on the 3ds. Feels bad-
Ring Fit Adventure actually succeeds from not having to be tied to the mii structure. That allowed the game to use the actual player character as a fitness instructor than needing to make a character like the Wii Fit Trainer to do that, gave the game its own unique artstyle that really makes it stand out, and character designs that are extremely effective in tying into gameplay (like how the Ring Fit Trainee's glowing hair demonstrates doing the exercises right). Also compared to 1 2 switch and Labo, Ring Fit has a lot of replayability with it's long story, tons of minigames, varied gameplay loop (unlocking new exercises, clothes, levels, activities to do in levels, etc.) , and more. Easily is the most accomplished exercise game and it did all that with one of the least bulky Nintendo accessories of the last decade.
Miitopia is my favorite 3ds game. So when I saw it was getting remake on switch at the time, I thought the same thing as you did : -OMG OMG OMG -Now, they're gonna start using miis again !!! *Switch sports has entered the chat*
One of my favorite things of the Wii series was using my same mii characters in different activities like running around a globe in Wii Party, playing in a sub-par band in Wii Music, dancing on stage in Wii Fit. Nintendo may never use the Sportsmates again in another game which causes me to lose attachment to them.

I would be more okay with the sportsmates if they had like... actual customization options instead of that one face. Honestly the Anthro race option might be the saving grace of the game if it lets you customize species, fur color, fur patterns, ear shape, etc. That could actually be able to communicate some personality with the customizations you can make for the Anthros, but those humans are always going to be so creepily similar to each other.

I remember thinking that Wii Sports on Switch would be a total pipe dream... And in a way it still is because I refuse to believe this belongs in the same series. What really kills me is how this will most likely squander any chance of properly seeing a full Wuhu Island in HD

Unwanted guests, that's what they are, unwanted guests that came from the dumpster fire in that shady alleyway a few blocks away from that location the gangster mario concert took place in.
I hope Nintendo comes back to switch sports and takes this approach of making Mii's the main focus. You don't know how magical it is until you play sword fight as Arnold Schwarzenegger against the queen of England (god rest her soul)
I can't understand how they decided to push miis to the backround after they just revamped the whole system for making them. In my opinion they just got the mii creation to near perfect with miitopia. The more lazy and less artistic people can just make a simple mii or download one, but the more artsy people have a ton of tools to create virtually anything they want. And then they say fuck miis new avatars
My favorite piece of trivia about Breath of the Wild is how apparently the NPC's faces use Mii face data to generate them. Which explains how wonderful and charming they look and proof on how much you can build upon Miis.
Now that you mentioned that I just thought of a theory. Last year the miis rised from the ground and helped the inklings with their battle against the ninjala kids. 1 year later the miis were relaxing and then all of the sudden their home territory was being invaded by these abominations known as sportsmates. The miis were at war with the sportsmates. Meanwhile the inklings were getting ready for the promotion of Splatoon 3 and after learning about the miis war with the sportsmates the inklings decided to return the favor and help the miis with their battle.
I honestly don’t know why the sportsmates exist. Their existence is just baffling in my opinion. The original selling point and focus of the sports series was to have you, your friends, celebrities, or even your own characters in a video game. The miis do a good job at representing you inside a video game! With sportsmates, you can’t do that at all. You can play as generic round faced guy seventeen with brown hair and blue shirt, which looks like a carbon copy of every other character in the game. Could you imagine how poorly Miitopia would have sold if they had “adventuremates” instead of mii characters? Honestly, my hopes for the future are Tomodachi life with the same mii system as Miitopia on switch (and the ability to port miis with their makeup, wig, and all directly from that game), HD food models which can be viewed in the gallery instead of JPEGs of food, and even more content than the 3DS version. I’m also hoping they’ll add the ability to remove the Mii’s helmet in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Tomodachi Life is a sequel, just so you know.
@@juliannocartagena2007 I know that Tomodachi Life ("Tomodachi Collection: New Life" in Japan) is a sequel to Tomodachi Collection. I meant the sequel for Tomodachi Life (a.k.a "TC: New Life").

I’m a little late to the comment, but I agree so much!!!!! I miss tomodachi life too, I want it on Switch so bad D: hopefully we can wait and see what happens, maybe we’ll get something tomodachi-esque in the future if we’re lucky!!!!! :)
@@maddiefox1748 I miss it too but you should check the internet. I saw there that few fans took it upon themselves to make a fan variation of new Tomodachi Life. So far I saw 2 projects (because the rest were just thoughts about new game). One was Tomodachi Revolution (which will probably be its own game) and Tomodachi Life Redux (which will be probably be hack to existing game) but take it with a pinch of salt.
So ig thanks Nintendo, you took away the one thing everyone liked about Wii Sports lol.
lol i guess people don't care about sports just about the miis
I miss the old Mii's with the weird invisible to visible legs and the balls they called hands
And the dots in baseball
i like the sportsmates, they're cute, i see the appeal, but having them replace miis and with such a same-y look feels so cheap and like such a dirty trick.
Those stupid sportsmates will never have independence like the miis.

Man, Miitopia was such a good game!!!
Miitopia made my dream team come to life in the best way possible
I got miitopia on my 3ds when it came out and it is still one of my favorite turn based RPGs. I love that game soooo much

@@quickshit2292 well, a yer later, you finally got something, behold: TOTK
Can we just talk about how fun Nintendo land was for my fellow Wii U users. Best game I’ve ever played. Sad to see it gone :(

It does break tradition those characters make me want to throw up, I grew up on wii sports and I played that since I was like 2 years old until my wii broke in 2017
@@tyronium2 I don't have nostalgia since I've never owned any of the Nintendo gaming systems like the Wii but the new guys look disgusting
It always baffles me how much hate people can put on a new game/movie/show before it's even released and can be properly experienced.
Nintendo needs to FOCUS on miis and improve them NOT replace them
There's a reason these new avatars are called sportsmates.
At least they are trying to make improvements to the mii formula instead of some generic player model or at least there is a customizable one at all
I unironically like the sportsmates, they've grown on me since the game's announcement, though they could use a bit more customizability.
As long as it got those adorable Mii's and charm of a true "Nintendo Island".
wuhu island was only in the original wii sports running sport, why would it be here? if/when they make a switch sports resort i would expect to see it there
a lot of people comparing switch sports to wii sports resort and while it would be cool to have resort gameplay i wouldnt have expected it
Now that we have an “actual” predecessor, I can now say in confidence that Go Vacation is the real sequel. Not made by the same people and coming from the people who made We Ski. Anyway this game to me is 10 times more fun than the others because of its like a thousand games and the open world. No nastolga tied to it but still a great game. Try it out porfavor

Ring Fit is amazing, it has the soul that was missing from Wii Fit. It's fun, interesting, exciting and it makes me want to play it more.
Moral of the story: Nintendo, please help Mii

The laugh the boss does when you decide what image the boss is going to be lives rent free in my head
I never expected to read the sentence “Your balls will thank you!”

Nintendo is a company that sells Mario games, but is run by Bowser and probably has an underpaid Italian janitor named Mario.
