Don't be a Wayfaring Stranger. Come to the River.
"O Brother, Where Art Thou," did so much to energize the popularity of this beautiful music.
Was born in far SW Arkansas where this music is very common, I remember going to church in a little white wood chapel situated on a small hill surrounded by the town. I joined the military and traveled the world, now at 41 I found myself missing that small town and white chapel. So, bought some land and a home and moved back with my wife and kids so they can have what I did.
I cannot express how nice it is to hear this.
The purity of ocapello and purity of clothing.
Thank you for sharing the past. It comforts me.
My roots in this run pretty deep, literally. This gave me a flashback to me at 9 years old in rural Alabama, at our family reunion in front of our old family church much like this one. We sang and the Preacher Preached next to my ancestors bones in the family cemetery, where my people were buried from the area's beginnings. I have travelled everywhere since, and had almost laid it aside, but this foundation has never left me.
Hey
Simply one of the best songs ever written.
How beautiful. Even though this is not of my religious background, I still feel it in my soul.
They played this song at my friends funeral today.... It's gorgeous.
YES THIS IS HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SUNG!!!! Fantastic job!
I can't get over how gorgeous the is. I have always loved this old traditional hymn, but this concept where the singers come together outside and old church and then actually go down in the river is extremely moving. Thank you.
This rendition of a lovely old spiritual done by the exquisite baroque orchestra, Apollo's Fire, literally took my breath away. Glorious!
This is perfect. its a difficult song for many singers. You really have to understand just how long to express each note and that takes a lot of control and imagination. most importantly grasping the cadence used in song 200 years ago is difficult for a lot of singers. this song was written in 2000 ish (i think) that makes it really challenging for a singer. great video as well. you can see in the body language of the singers the sense of timing and rhythm that they have locked into. these singers have the tune living inside their body and voice. that requires more than discipline and practice. you really have to feel the words to get that type of rhythm
I absolutely love it. It brought tears to my eyes. Such a lovely song and you guys captured the beauty of this song with your voice and grace. Thank you so much. ♥♥♥
My soul is dead. This brings me to life for a time. Thank you.
Khadijah Brown ephesians 5:14
I love this arrangement! So many others lack the solid bass line added with 'fathers let's go down'. The Krauss version and others are lovely of course, but ending on that huge harmony has no comparison. This song needs to start with a perfect ethereal soprano and build to that tremendous climax in five part harmony.
I love the song, Down to the River to Pray
beautiful! Thank you people for this wonderful rendition of this hymn!
I can't remember the last time I heard this I love it buitiful
you are some beautiful singers all of you , i lost my father in august of last year and made me think of him saying we meet up there one day one at a time and when all you were singing and one by one all was back together , made me think of how we will all meet up one at a time until were all home, god bless all of you
Absolutely heavenly. A joy to the hearer.
What a great blessing, thank you for sharing.
BEAUTIFUL!! Love the sound of the bass undertones
As a pagan I liked this song, we're not sinners but we recognise our people are flesh and blood as are yours so we are all a family of humanity we may not worship the same deities but we are still one people. I would happily walk down to that river with those people and pray for this world is beautiful no matter which deity you worship. We have the beauty of nature around us. Thank you for a beautiful song.
We are sinners. You forfeit the grace that Christ so tenderly extends to you by denying that you are a sinner. God cares about which god you worship. He is Jealous. Christ died on that cross to save sinners.
Dan Hillman Amen. You can only pray that someday they see the light.
One can also hope that Nature convinces humans that they are HER sacred animals... including the alleged Man/God Christ~~ who, if he WERE human, depended upon Nature for his existence and sustenance. ^..^
Christ created nature and has absolute sovereign control over nature. Genesis 1, John 1, Colossians 1, Hebrews 1.
Just realized the name of this group is Apollo's Fire, named after the ancient classical idol. How disappointing! The music is beautifully done, but they are apparently beckoning us to pray to the wrong god! Exodus 20. Worship God alone!
Absolutely amazing!!! Thank you for perfecting a great song!! God bless everyone!
Let's go down to the river to pray
Well done!
Beautiful song, sung well. I love the setting too
No better place to pray than a River, it is better than a Church! The song is still good!

The line is a reference to early baptisms, which took place in rivers and streams. The story of John the Baptist takes place in a river, for example.
This is one of the all tym best songs

I watched this video, hmmmm maybe 7 years ago, had to recently go back to using the PC I had at the time due to my newer PC's power pack being in a suitcase in Victoria, anyway, really enjoyed hearing and seeing it again, beautiful song.
disclaimer: not really religious.
REALLY LIKE THIS TRADITIONAL. SIMPLE. EXQUISITE. THE VIDEO-OGRAPHER IS FANTASTIC. WILL LOOK FOR MORE!
great video""
Shall we, go down?
I am not a very down and dirty Christian, but I do know of God and his faith.
I have not been to a church since my brother's daughter drowned in the lake.
I have not been able to fathom his faith since.
Amen❤😊
even though I am a huge Kings Singers fan, I have to say, this beats their version. and their version is darned good.
💗💗💗💗
Lovely. And guess what I just found out? I tried singing Go Tell it on the Mountain at the same time for a variation / polyphony and it works to both the verse and refrain. I love it when songs fit like that. Wonder if others have thought of this, too.
Oh my gosh it's Mrs Simon! I know that woman! Singing one of my favorite gospel songs! Can this get any better?
O, Father, show me Thy Way; Jesus Christ Himself.
You need this on itunes
This could have turned so so different at any stage
Amen
where's George Clooney
He was hit by a train. Blooey! Nothing left. Just a grease spot on the L&N.
Joe Black Really guys inappropriate....
Where was this filmed. It's so appropriate for this traditional. Is it possible to get a CD/DVD of this performance or concert?
Sick. Chills. Beautiful. How do I join lol
we now that song
When He comes for you you'll know who the one true God is. Jesus knows your grief. He is a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Turn to Him who made you. Forget religion and seek Jesus who is near.
As a lapsed catholic this almost makes me miss mass
Never too late to go back 😇
wow!!!!!
Brother, Where Art Thou?
i love u
Does anyone know the vocal ranges of the male singers and who is the guy who hits those high notes at the very end?
Uh oh here comes drunk Uncle Charlie.
I love your harmonics. Do you have this in written form?
Apollo: Apollyon the Destroyer
My hair!
Pls, where this video was recorded?
👍
Wow. And I'm not even religious.
oh brother where art thou?
This was a beautiful vid. I can hear their voices bouncing off the walls of the studio, tho.
wiw(:
I like this song but that river is not deep enough.
Who all loves god I do
To me, the sinner is merely a non-christian as a gentile is merely a non-Jew. There is nothing inherently *evil* about one who does not follow the way you follow, and while they do not follow the standards of your doctrines, they may follow the standards of their own, and in that way, are just as righteous. If they can live and love and follow their own way peacefully, so can you.
