Actually you kinda can. His forge was definitelt large enough. He was just an unskilled smith - too fat blade, too little tools, no distal taper, bad tempering... He was just bad overall.
@@horvathbenedek3596 He purposely made the blade too heavy and with a very poor edge, exactly the opposite of what a Saber should be. I don't know why he thought that was a good idea.
@@jesuschristkillmealready5419 It wasn't a decision he made. He was simply unskilled, or inexperienced in making swords. Making a sword requires a fuckton of grinding. It's a shame that Steven's blade wasn't quite so sharp and ended up breaking, and Seth's blade suffered some structural issues. The blowtorch heat treat must not have worked quite as well as thought. Shame man.
If his grain structure is coarse, the blade had almost snapped off at 7:23, because grain structure is like the most serious and important part of steel blade strength, other than a stress fracture, stress riser, surface crack or a rusty brown or black spot in the blade’s steel.
Love the sportsmanship and judges' attitude. No one makes fun of anyones work, and when judges test, they know can say "A's blade was sharper than B's blade", but they dont and only critique the weapon being judged and only compare (respectfully) at the final decision.
You could clearly see when he went for the quench that his blade was not nearly hot enough for proper heat treating. Not much he could have done though, his oven just wasn't up to the task for a blade this size. Disaster waiting to happen. Seth got off good though, his blade wasn't that much better haha.
they shud really do the sharpness test first and then the kill and finally strength...and no matter wat happens do all three even if the opponent is disqualified just saying
That would kinda defeat the purpose though. The sharpness test is after the strength test to see if it held an edge after being abused. Ergo, how good was their heat treat.
Hey guys, I’m a huge fan of the show.. how’s about getting the contestants to make Tom brown tracker style knives? I think it could make for some interesting destructive testing! Perhaps have some more movie weapon recreations for the final challenge... I think the cobra knife could make for a difficult challenge and some excellent kill testing. Fingers crossed..

I dare you to make a musket blade
We can almost predict the winner just by seeing the way they make the blade...
agreed, when the guy said he didn't have a big enough oven to give it even heating that was a big tell sign.
It also depends on if they have enough time to make 2 blades, or write a song about it, or light some fireworks... those guys usually win.
Your typical Maid or the fireball guy
Fact
LOL the one guy was literally like: Ima make my blade heavy and not as sharp.
Has he ever seen the show?
When you have only about a minute left in the video and the strength test begins, it means somebody's blade got snapped
I liked it better when they used the ballistic dummies, it was more satisfying

Why not both?

Probably more expensive.
He was sharpening the blade on a flat surface with the sharp edge directly towards him. If that blade caught he would be in trouble.
It would probably KEEL!

Hey sometimes you got to throw safety out the window to do something well. Bladesmithing is not a hobby for those who are scared of getting hurt

When there is a catastrophic failure, the disappointment in Will's eyes and those of judges' is more than the contestant's.
Can anybody explain?
do you like watching a sport where 1 team completely dominates the other or do you prefer a game/match where it's evenly matched until the end?
