Scott's broadsword literally shimmered in the light. That's a stunning visual! Not to mention that it hardly took any damage. Excellent forging, I'd have to say.
Scott's sword was amazing and the damascus was incredible. Making that sword at 18 is amazing as well. He's gonna make some amazing pieces over the years.
This test is significant because historically, when medieval knights were attacked, it was usually by battering rams constructed of CCA pressure treated fence post. If their swords hadn't held up during these encounters it meant almost certain death for our honorable knights.
I always love how humble most of the competitors are, despite obvios talent they are always curtious to eachother even after a win or loss. Just wholesomness all around.
That young man was only 18 at the time, had never forged a sword before and made it to the third round of smiting competition; Will was correct when he said "The world is yours". I hope he comes back on the show in a few years to show how much he's grown.
Kid has so much heart! I hope he will continue to learn from this experience. It’s awesome that he was able to beat out the other people in the early stages.
I love broad swords. Both pieces were beautiful works of art and deadly tools. That 18yo kid has a great future with his skill level and his humble optimistic maturity with openness to learning.
Amazing attitude on Colton's part. This is class. No victim, no excuses, will learn from this for sure - because of his outlook. This is the kind of people the world needs. For his first sword also, he did amazing.
The attitude of every runner up walking out of the forge is inspiring. Every other Tv competition show you see these people crying and whining about how they thought they got dissed. Definitely my favorite competition show to ever air.
This guy is making friggin amazing swords at 18. And he’s mature enough to accept defeat and chalk it up to a good learning experience. At 18 I was still debating if I should go to class or sleep in longer.
Only 18 he's got nothing to be ashamed of, as a matter of fact he should be very proud of what he accomplished, very few 18 yr. olds would be able to make it to the final round, and considering he never made a sword before he now has some good OJT and has learned some valuable information on what not to do and what to do, from here on he will be flying skyward with no limit in sight! I predict a prosperous career ahead of this young man!
Winner made a great blade. Young guy props to him for even being there and making something like that with his own hands, hopefully he will compete again
Gotta say, I really liked the way the older guy's sword turned out. The "patterns" on the blade were very nice to look at. And I like how this show gives you some idea as to how much work goes into forging something.
These two are good people, passionate smiths. Well fought Colton, better luck next time! You did great, sure you will be making a sword or two in the future.
The best part about this series is when you've seen enough heat treats to know when a person hasn't heated their blade properly before they quench and you just know something will be wrong with it.
Truly impressive making swords like that at 18. He can only learn and grow from here on out. I could barely sharpen a pencil never mind making a whole sword lol
You can see that the blade was not evenly heated at 1:11 (colder above tang and below tip). @Brisk XD If you mean the first skull smash, he hit that correctly, but the blade was not able to penetrate inside the skull and slid along it.
