What a pleasure to watch someone react to this beautiful aria who can truly appreciate the performance of these two vocal greats. I have watched numerous reactions only to be left dismayed by people's ignorance; the majority were Americans, as Europeans and people of other countries seemed a lot more cultured. As for Americans, many, if not most, had no idea who Placido Domingo was, and that includes so-called "vocal coaches." They were utterly ignorant of opera in general and referred to this aria as a "nice song," primarily focusing on Dimash's performance, and claiming that Dimash held back because he didn't sing any "crazy vocals" out of respect for the "other guy." Thank you for your wonderful reaction.
Excellent observations here. Not knowing anything opera from vocal coaches is quite remarkable and given Placido Domingo has been famous for 60 years and in the 90's in particular when his presence along with the other two of "The Three Tenors" were often in the limelight outside of opera itself. I also notice we are talking mainly Americans who languish in areas that do not include great Singers in the opera style. For Vocal Coaches I would have thought the genre of opera would figure as examples of vocal technique as part of the overall education of any budding Singer.
I'm an American and I have been stunned at my fellow country folks' ignorance of the great Placido Domingo.
I completely agree with all spoken here. It's a shame American culture has adopted the lower road of music. Fine art has been cut from public schools...and it shows. I pray the tide will turn a bit and with the wonderful connection Dimash has, we will see a lift to a new era in music and culture.

Dimash has a very spiritual basis for his life that has safeguarded him so far.
And he has a mind of his own that prevents a takeover...thank God.
He trained in Bel Canto for years, but turned down an offer from an opera company when he was a teen, saying he didn’t want to be locked into only one range and one genre.
Only time will tell, but I think his heart is leading him to experience and perform everything.
This was a dream come true for Dimash. He shared that, at the age of 5, he had a VHC of a concert by Maestro Domingo and dreamed from that time to meet and work with him. I am certain that Dimash appreciated the opportunity to be a judge on the Virtuoso program, which supports young classical artists, at the invitation of Maestro Domingo. Dimash only had 1 day notice and there was only one rehearsal. It is magical.
Maestro Domingo turned 83 just days after this was recorded.
Thank you. Dimash turned down the Astana Opera to go his own way. He said that he does not want to be restricted to the rules and prefers his own path of what he calls 'neoclassical'. He can sing opera any time he wants to, but not only opera.
Absolutely loved your reaction! This performance was PERFECTION! Like several others already commented that a lot of reactors had no idea who Placido Domingo is, which I found rather disgraceful and almost insulting to Placido, when he was one of the original world famous 3 tenors. Some of the Dears also reported that Dimash actually had a cold/cough when he did this, but one would never notice from this performance. Yes, Dimash's Mom is an opera soprano. Dimash was offered a post with the Astana Opera right out of university, but he turned that down to pursue his own path, because he didn't want to limit himself to just opera. He could've been opera famous, but then the rest of us Dears around the world will never know him at all. Dimash can't be categorized or put in a box, because he can sing anything and everything. Dimash is Dimash. Love and respect for Dimash and Domingo.
Many bel canto teachers have verified that Dimash brings a cross interpretation between rigid classical singing (which must follow norms and exactly as the author of the piece wrote, from the notes and durations, the portamentos, the expressiveness... Everything) and much more popular flexibility. For purists, let's remember that Dimash had the dream of singing with Plácido Domingos since he was a child and it was the Maestro himself, Don Domingos, who suggested the duet (he knew that even with classical training, Dimash would sing as a cross between classical and pop )! Dimash only had one day to remember the work and make the recording, as this moment is part of the competition (like a talent show) for children with musical talent: The “Virtuosos”! Dimash, as well as Placido Domingos, were part of the Jury, accompanied by Erika Miklósa (opera singer), Adrás Keller (violinist, conductor and musical director of the Budapest Concert), Hauser (cellist), Plácido Domingos Jr. (singer and composer), Pablo Sanz Villegas (classical guitarist), Gabriela Rachid (cultural director) and Harvey Goldsmith (music promoter)! The show was in Budapest (Hungary) from January 16th to 26th this year, 2024!
👉 The world stands still for this moment and everyone holds their breath. A singing teacher calls them the two musical titans...yes, yes, yes! This duet was Dimash's dream and it is coming true. What an honor for our beloved Dimash and a great joy for Maestro Domingo…. And I was bathed in tears of joy. I'm sooo happy.
Dimash was asked to participate as a judge in the competition for young classical musicians... and then... he gave us dear ones this wonderful jewel.
Maestro Domingo invited Dimash to sing the duet with him the day before. Dimash only had a short night to learn this song in French... and besides, Dimash had a cold with a cough. (You notice it more clearly in the second song at the end of the concert.)
Dimash would never act recklessly towards his duet partners. With good manners and respect, he would never drown out Maestro Domingo (then still 82) with his voice. He even adapts to Maestro Domingo's vocal color.
Dimash opens a new world to many Dears... the world of classical music. You should definitely watch the video (look at the end of the comment)... so many young, talented musicians and the sensitive assessment of the jurors... Great!!! ... and the legendary duet of Maestro Domingo and Dimash Qudaibergen!

The gold standard of the Pearl Fishers duet, for me, will always be the transcendent Robert Merrill and Jussi Bjorling. It is just unbeatable but this version is beautiful. Dimash is such a huge talent and could we just take a moment to appreciate that maestro Domingo is 83 years old! Quite astounding. Thank you for the review.
for the great maestro placido domingo to still perform in his 80s is a treat. granted, he is singing more as a baritone given his age, but none of the great dramatic tenors of the maestro's generation are no longer around to share their gift. hopefully dimash qudaibergen will be able to last the next six decades like placido domingo.

There was a radio show in the UK called Your Hundred Best Tunes that ran throughout the 60s. This duet was pretty much always near the top. The recording they played, by Swedish tenor Jussi Bjorling and the US baritone Robert Merrill, from the early 50s was sublime.
Placido Domingo, born Jan. 21, 1941 and Dimash, born May 24, 1994 singing this classic duet on December 10, 2023. So there's 53 years between them, let that sink in for a moment. Placido's voice is still wonderful at age 82 in this clip. Maestro Placido Domingo was of course 1 of the Three Tenors (with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras). The original concert was held to raise money for the 'Carrera's Foundation (for leukemia). It was also a way for his friends Placido and Luciano to welcome Jose' back, to the world of Opera, after he had succesfully completed treatment for leukemia.
The whole thing will blow the top of your head off... They repeated it again in 1994, 1996 and 1997.
(they also performed 2 benifit concerts in Modena 'Pavarotti's home town' AND Barcelona . So all three Maestro's raised money for charities supported by their friends, isn't that amazing).

Dimash's comment to Maestro Domingo was that watching the Maestro on VHS at age 5 brought him to music. That is such a compliment. I can only imagine how Dimash might have felt to be asked to participate as a juror on Virtuosos and then do a duet with such an icon of Voice.

Oh wow how I adore this song and sung by the best of the best. Yes I enjoyed watching your face and expression during the reaction. I was introduced to this style of singing at a very young age and you were right once you see something like this live you just feel the emotion of the music 🎶. El día 26 Dimash estrena vídeo de uno de sus últimos temas. Será fantastico porque el tems es maravilloso y Dimash se caracteriza de vampiro. A Dimash le ofrecieron un lugar en la Opera de Kazajstán, pero él lo rechazó porque quiere ser libre y cantar lo que le apetezca. Hey! Your plants are doing really well! Missed you too! I saw a video of when they first met prior to this competition. Maestro Domingo asked Dimash if he would sing with him. He wanted so badly to jam with the boy. Can you imagine? The event was called “Virtuoso” between violinists, harpists, oboes, clarinettists etc.. you’d enjoy it.. Teo Gerbler especially. Dimash was a judge.
