Dimash was age 5 when he first obtained a tape of Placido singing and It was Placido who, through those tapes, helped Dimash, at that tender age, decide to become a singer.
25 years later and Dimash gets to sing with his singing hero.

Plácido just turned 83 years old. This is the end of the first part of the finals for the classical competition Virtuoso in Budapest, Hungary. Placido Domingo, born Jan. 21, 1941 and Dimash, born May 24, 1994 singing this classic duet on December 10, 2023. So there's 53 years between them, let that sink in for a moment. Placido's voice is still wonderful at age 82 in this clip. And French, the language of this song, is also not Maestro Domingo's native language (Spanish).
Dimash was not just showing respect (he was not holding back) but: it is a DUET and a DUET is not a contest of who can sing the fastest, loudest or even the best. Duets ARE about co-operating and they did that well.
Maestro Domingo turned 83 less than a week after they filmed this.
He is still great for that age!

Yes, Dimash is a very respectful duet partner and never over poweri his duet partners. If you look at his next performance at this Virtuosos show with a group of singers , he sings with a tiny Ukrainian girl in the beginning, harmonizing with her, but you can still hear her voice.

I was crying again. To tell the truth was nervous about Dimash. Opera with Domingo! However, it is breathtakingly beautiful, thanks heavens. Maestro sounds rich and deep, the last piece is a perfect duo. Dimash did it. This is art, people.
This was a dream come true for Dimash. He shared that at the age of 5, he had a VHS of a concert by Maestro Domingo and he dreamed of meeting and working with him from then to now. Maestro Domingo invited Dimash to do the duet and be a judge on the program Virtuoso.
Great reaction, Roscoe, with your mouth hanging open most of the time, no less. Reminder, Dimash was classically trained and was offered a job at the Astana Opera to be an opera singer. He turned it down and started doing his own things. Well, you know, the rest is history. Dimash can't be put in a box or categorized as one or the other. He can sing anything and everything. Always respectful and the harmony with Domingo was superb. Love and respect for Dimash.
I think that perfect pitch recognizes that quality in another singer. I do mean singer because that instrument is harder to perform, night after night, with perfect pitch. Things like the flu, or stress, or just a bad day throw any musician off, but when you cannot separate yourself from the instrument you play, then perfection can be difficult.
Which is why other singers, such as Andrea Bocelli and Placido domingo have enjoyed meeting this young man. They instantly recognized the music, his goals, his pitch, the clarity. They connected on a level where maybe
angels tread. Music uniites all of us. We are moved to tears or our load is lightened. Indeed, all good art should do the same.

Dimash is a master at matching his performace, and even his verbrato, with anyone he duets with. He also never tries to 'out sing' anyone he sings with.
There is another performance with Placido's son, 2 female soprano singers & a beautiful little girl from Ukraine, Amelia, where they sing Heal the World. Dimash sings so softly when singing with little Amelia, to let her shine. Its a beautiful performance & Amelia is the absolute star of that piece! 😊🙏💕🌟
Thank you Roscoe for your appreciation to music in general! This is history for us, as you said, two generations singuing together, Domingo and Dimash doing full opera. He is very respectful when he sings with others. And I agree, he looks more mature, very handsome, he is almost 30! You should check him with” when I have got you”! This was the Virtuosos Talent competition which you can find on UA-cam, a competition for very young classical musicians managed through Maestro Domingo. Placido just turned 83 years old a few days ago. He was singing in baritone range although you know he was one of the 3 Tenors from the 1990s. Dimash was a juror on this talent competition. Dimash had revered Maestro Domingo since a child so obviously it was a great honour to be asked to sing a duet. Dimash huge strength is harmony. He never outshines anyone.

Several years ago I saw Dimash sing one line of the song Cotton-Eye Joe as part of a music quiz on an Asian TV show. That one line was enough to let me know he could sing that too if he wanted to! 😊

This is the Virtuosos competition for young people in the classics. Placido Domingo was head juror, & invited Dimash to be on the jury along with Placido JR, & Hauser, among the rest of the 7 in total.
This was a duet that Maestro Placido wanted to do when he met Dimash, & Dimash learned this song in one day. He never over powers another singer....ever!

Dimash was an invited guest as a judge for a show in Budapest, Hungary called Virtuoso 2024!!
Placido turned 83 last week ❤ Dimash always works very generously with others and never oversings his partners. This seems to me, to be the older passing the baton to the younger, so, so beautiful. This duet is sung in French and would be known well by both of them. Dimash had a bad cough and had only one day to prepare and one rehearsal yet this was the amazing result. The people there were all fellow judges on a competition programme for exceptionally talented young people in Hungary called Virtuosos. Dimash was invited to be one of the also exceptionally talented judges here, maybe you might recognise Hauser among them, he is one of the Two Cellos, they play a lot of rock songs. ❤

Yes, remember Maestro Domingo asked Dimash to sing with him, and that he couldn’t sing the high tenor anymore because of his age, and he asked Dimash to sing the higher part of this song, only a couple of days at the most before this show, which is a talent for talented youth, a show called The Virtuosos, which Dimash is one of the judges for, along with those sitting, watching these two legends sing.
This was a TV competition show for young virtuosos. All these people at tables are part of the judging panel invited by Placido Domingo (so is Dimash). Yes, there's another performance with many singers on stage for "Heal the World," and a tiny little girl with a soft voice begins and Dimash is the first to join her and he sings very softly, anything else would be mean spirited, which Dimash is not. Plus Dimash was sick. He had a flu when he arrived in Hungary and he was not completely recovered. I like the fact that he was respectful with M.Domingo not showing himself like is capable .

Placido turned 83 the day after this was released. He used to sing the tenor part. Domingo cannot sing that part fully now. Also, in opera, the conductor and the writer of the opera tell the singers how this is going to go. So mad props to the conductor, as the singers do what he tells them, though they have something to say in practice how they best blend. They were amazing, all of them.
He's 83 just had a birthday!! Dimash always matches n blends with whoever he is singing. Placido, Dimash and about 6 others are judges for a virtuoso competition of young pple who qualified for the competition.
Each judge presented something.
Dimash is a qualified opera singer. He was offered a place in Kazakhstan's Ooera house. But he declined because he wanted to explore all forms of music making.
Some of the competitors were so good zDimash has invited about 3 or 4 to join him, Dimash at one of his concert as a special guest.

In the video when the judges met up Placido said that he wanted to do a duet but that Dimash would have to do the tenor part as his tessitura no longer allowed him to do the high notes, he could only do the baritone now. I am sure that Dimash could have taken it stronger or higher but he wouldn't want to do that to the Maistro who he has admired since he was five.
A vocal coach who sang opera and sang the tenor part, and he said it is known to be a difficult part.

Roscoe, this performance came from the show "Virtuoso". You might want to check that out also. It is amazing. Dimash was a judge on the panel with other well known musicians to support very young, talented, classical children who KILLED their instruments. Actually, it is the two generations who give the next generation of awesome performers support and education in the music they love. Classical is a foundation of all music, and it needs to be heard. It is absolutely beautiful.
Many bel canto teachers have verified that Dimash brings a cross interpretation between rigid classical singing (which must follow norms and exactly as the author of the piece wrote, from the notes and durations, the portamentos, the expressiveness... Everything) and much more popular flexibility. For purists, let's remember that Dimash had the dream of singing with Plácido Domingos since he was a child and it was the Maestro himself, Don Domingos, who suggested the duet (he knew that even with classical training, Dimash would sing as a cross between classical and pop )! Dimash only had one day to remember the work and make the recording, as this moment is part of the competition (like a talent show) for children with musical talent: The “Virtuosos”! Dimash, as well as Placido Domingos, were part of the Jury, accompanied by Erika Miklósa (opera singer), Adrás Keller (violinist, conductor and musical director of the Budapest Concert), Hauser (cellist), Plácido Domingos Jr. composer), Pablo Sanz Villegas (classical guitarist), Gabriela Rachid (cultural director) and Harvey Goldsmith (music promoter)! The show was in Budapest (Hungary) from January 16th to 26th this year, 2024!

They are judges for the virtuoso competition for young singers. Dimash was also a judge there. Placido Domingo is 83 and he invited Dimash to sing with him. Dimash always admired Placido from age 5.

No, no tienes razón, es una aria de ópera y se canta asi, ahi Dimash no se quedó para no opacar a Domingo, ahi cada uno colocó su voz sin ningún esfuerzo para ninguno, Domingo le lleva 59 años, pero su voz es única, hermosa.

I think your insights were right abut Dimash respecting that this was a duet with a beloved maestro, and did not try to showcase his operatic abilities while holding his own magnificently.
Dimash is always amazing and this was a really special opportunity to sing with maestro Domingo who he has also admired. Vocally he respected Placido and personally he was living his dream which had to be such an overwhelming experience. Thank you for your reaction and opinion.always gods to watch your reactions
