amiga version kicks ass. My favourite amiga era game, best sound effects, good gameplay logics and sharp visuals. Lemmings comes second in my book, but to be honest so many amiga games are just damn well crafted.
Amiga: the original and best. Cd32: the same as Amiga 500. No AGA enhancements at all. Wasn't there an FMV intro though? Atari st: sounds horrible, less colour, looks ok gameplay wise. Jaguar: great conversation, almost identical to the original. Megadrive: worse intro music but otherwise looks the same as Amiga. SNES: lower resolution and muffled sound,a shame. 3do: strangely slow music and weird aspect ratio, maybe an emulator issue? Ms DOS:far too zoomed in and bad FM audio, although pc specs varied wildely at the time.
DOS version supported the mt32 via midi. He didn't configure his emulator to work with munt. With that, it sounded even better than Amiga (real instruments samples vs digital oscillators). Of course the hardware needed was way more expensive though.
I guess the vocals were absent on the SNES port due to how limited the audio RAM available is compared to what Paula has access on the Amiga. It seems to be the only likely explanation, as the SPC700 is sample based so it should be able to reproduce vocals wih a larger audio RAM amount.
i don't know what DOS setup you have but the music and sound effects were not like that when i played it. i didn't have any sort of oddball high end card either just a common SBP2 knockoff
@@parallaxview2143 I played it on Amiga 1200 so no, no CD. But now I see the video is constantly switching between versions of the game from very different platforms. And some of those are really bad. I think I didn't notice the switching before.
Uploader screwed up, he has the wrong sound settings for the DOS version. It's not supposed to sound like that. The DOS version has full Sound Blaster support and sounds similar to Amiga.
Please, doublecheck the MS-Dos verion again. In my version are the sound like on Amiga ( just the music is midi ). You have clearly something wrong in your MS-Dos sound settings.
@@gaborszabo6406 I know, I'm huge fan of Commodore Amiga. I have several Amigas at home and also boxed cannon fooder for Amiga ( I can compare ), anyway the comparison is not fair. That's was the point.
Amiga version is perfect. British gamemakers knew how to make outstanding games. And I mean outstanding by them being original, replayable and a bit controversial.
@@amipal24 yes, of course, but since they have done more coloured assets for other plateforms, why not using them on CD32. Well, on this game, the OCS version still looks the best despite the low colors, but that's not always true for other games.
Picked this up on the Amiga, then Jaguar, so missed a lot of ports. Man the ST Version looses so much atmosphere, due to to the lack of ambient sound fx. Could never get past stage 8 on either version i bought, as the difficulty curve goes through the window and game stopped being fun Jaguar version took some getting used to, you need a mouse for this one.
Really ? Don't you know Creative labs or Gravis ultra sound ? At this time most of PC got a soind card. Sounds cards actually better than amiga or others : 16 bits 44100khz....
I am a massive Amiga fan but I really think the dithering in the Amiga, ST, Genesis, and SNES versions are a bit distracting. Especially in the trees. The PC, Jag, and 3DO version use more colors and have little dithering. The Amiga definitely has the best sound and music though, and ST the worst. This game really needs a mouse so I think Amiga and PC are the best. I never played it on ST, but it sounds pretty bad and is choppy. Great game on all platforms. I only own PC and Jaguar versions now.
Ordinary Amiga 500 with 1MB has all these cool sound effects, while SNES, Sega, even 3DO don't. PC version is tragic. BTW you don't get the whole CD32 intro, it contains a funny movie sequence with game creators (the same ones who are in the BW photos).
3do version is by far the best. It's smooth and has the best sounds. Other sounds don't interrupt gun sounds either. Unfortunately you have to play it with a controller which make it way more difficult and annoying. Also lookup Open Fodder. You amiga boys will like that version on PC.
The MS-DOS version looks a bit zoomed in, as if the amount of map on screen is less than the Amiga version. Other than that, it looks the same as the Amiga I think.

AMIGA #1. Best sound, best colours most fun watching :).

There was FMV intro in CD32 version, but AFAIR it required FMV board addon in Amiga.
DOS version supported the mt32 via midi. He didn't configure his emulator to work with munt. With that, it sounded even better than Amiga (real instruments samples vs digital oscillators). Of course the hardware needed was way more expensive though.
Megadrive doesn't look the same as the Amiga version....at all.
I find Jaguar GFX better than the Amiga version, more detailed.
cd32 is the best version - no slowdowns like on a500. Much better framerate.
Snes had the best gun and rocket sounds though. This game doesn't feel the same to me without the WHIZZZ of the rockets.
Never been so much fun...always loved that music...I was quite impressed with the Atari Jaguar version, until just now i never even knew it existed.
I remember the Acorn Archimedes version being a decent port
Jag looks good, there was a gbc version too and it was pretty good.
SNES and genesis versions of the intro uses uh, ooh, and Piano sounds instead of using vocals
I guess the vocals were absent on the SNES port due to how limited the audio RAM available is compared to what Paula has access on the Amiga. It seems to be the only likely explanation, as the SPC700 is sample based so it should be able to reproduce vocals wih a larger audio RAM amount.
I still think the Gameboy Colour port is the most impressive in terms of what it did with the hardware. Even had the animated intro.
i don't know what DOS setup you have but the music and sound effects were not like that when i played it. i didn't have any sort of oddball high end card either just a common SBP2 knockoff
You're right, in my version the sound blaster is not functional in-game (bug)
The Amiga version is and always will be the superior version.
Nope lol
yeah its not tho is it............. fkkn amiga shills
It's miles ahead of the others. The music and sound effects are incomparable.
@@Turrican all versions look the same
I agree but I think the machine gun sounds better in the Atari Jaguar, 3DO and SNES versions.
What's with the broken sound in DOS version ? That is not how I remember the game sounding on PC.
You probably had it on CDROM 😊

Amiga forever for this Game. sound Graphics are so good

what a great music, brings back lots of good old memories.Amiga version is the best i cant imagine playing this game without a mouse.
Atari Jaguar 👍
Get the CD32 version up on a machine with the FMV module fitted!
Amiga version is perfect. British gamemakers knew how to make outstanding games. And I mean outstanding by them being original, replayable and a bit controversial.
No way a console version was better: it was a game tought to played with a mouse. Amiga or DOS but only with an MT32, otherwise it sounded like shit.
Jag win
I wonder why devs makes colorful graphics for other plateforms, but stick to A500 graphics for CD32...
Cheaper to port, and release quickly.

Commodore business :(
Because Sensible Software only did the Amiga and Atari ST versions, all the other versions were ported by other dev teams.

Atari St version looks surprisingly good. Where's the Jaguar version?
It sounds surprisingly awful though - especially since the title music was almost done quite well
It was jerky as hell
Another case where by that time the ST version should really have had an STE version, could have had original sound then

The MS-Dos one looks way too dark! The amiga one has much more detail and also shows more of the map at once.
