Paul, the 1300 crossflow pistons at + 0.060" will not reduce the swept volume or capacity of the engine, it will still be 1660cc approx, but they will increase the compression ratio from 9.0:1 o 10.3:1.
The old 711M block from the Cortina Gt. Safe to bore to 1700 with the thick cylinder walls but good to keep around 1650 for peace of mind. Stuck one in our Lotus 7 with a gas flowed head and double valve springs. Lightened flywheel and balanced. It’s always nice to know the engine shouldn’t give you trouble 👌🏻
That was great. I went for the 244 cam in 1700 crossflow. Mind you that was back in 1999. 😂 Awesome little bullet proof engines if built right. I can’t wait to see you do a back to back dyno run showing the difference between stock GT two barrel carb and twin 40mm DCOE’s. 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😎🍀☮️
Long live the mighty Xflow and the Ford Escort 💪👌 I've just finished my 10 yr restoration build on my Grandfather's Mk2 ghia that he bought new in 76, he had a amazing and unbelievable WW2 story, so as well as looking absolutely amazing now, a brand new forged 1700 on 45s now gives it a symphony on full beans that I'm sure he can hear👍, well the 5 times I've driven the car anyway in-between fixing the next issues😂 😢.
Nice to see those power figures with the bigger carbs, I have a 1690cc x/flow with the a Kent 234 cam and a head from CTM performance and and a set of 40 DCOE 151 carbs and the usual Ashley manifold and a single box 2 inch system also using Lumenition in the dissy, and my car made 96 bhp @ the wheels. Regards Dave. 😀
There’s something special about the crossflows whether it’s a 1300 1600 etc etc they just have a very distinctive sound through the rev range and would rev to the moon and back!! I love the fact you stuck to the original paint scheme too
just found your channel with the mk1 .. subbed insta due to the knowledge and the prof content.. and ofc also an anti chromer here .. i find it extremly impressive that you can take apart complete engines.. and just slap em together like this
Great timing Paul better watching this than the usual crap on Tv looking forward to seeing this it’s going to be a beauty all the best for the New Year
Heya Paul! I stumbled upon your videos only recently, and i have to say, i love them! You appear to be living the absolute dream! Your videos have inspired me to get my own workshop finished so that i can enjoy evenings tinkering away on my own toys 😂 Keep up the good work matey.
Bit of confusion there. Crown hight doesn't affect CC'S if the piston is taller as tdc it's taller at bdc. Swept volume bore area× stroke of the crank is the only info needed for engine size. What the 1300 pistons do give with their taller crown hight, is a higher cr. Does make a cracking little engine for virtually no money (it's all relative) 🙂
You are correct. When he said that it made my brain hurt a bit. Man's high school maths failed him badly here. +.030" gives you 1629cc irrespective of the crown height. The 1300 piston reduces the combustion volume, not the swept volume.
@@5CGQ Many make the same mistake. The guy is a very highly skilled tech. How often do people do this kind of work. Many guys in the motor trade for 30 years or more have not rebuilt an engine, unless it's a hobby or something special, the cost out ways the value of the car. Realistic cost for a x flow like on the vid, which should give 130+ hp is £5k it's just what things cost.
Cool mate! Found out that old Haynes book build your own car for £250 that I bought years ago. Wondered how much it’d cost these days now there’s loads of aftermarket mk2 parts to buy.
Hi I would like to know to replace diff shim replacement on the 1600 sport please and how to alignment Enjin and driveshaft angle so there are no vibration on hi speeds
Looking very nice Paul. I have a 1600 Sport that has been sitting around awaiting restoration for too long - need to get finger out! Just a quick question - has the heater bowl on yours been modified to be removeable? Did I miss this mod on a previous video? Thanks for the content - Happy New Year mate.
Hi, Any CC within the piston will not actually change the engine displacement. You only work with the bore diameter in the calculator to go you your overall displacement. Difference in piston dome etc will only affect the compression ratio. ENGINE CAPACITY/DISPLACEMENT Information required: 1. Cylinder bore, 2. Crankshaft stroke, 3. Number of cylinders Calculation: 0.7854 x bore x bore x stroke x number of cylinders. Example: Bore = 81mm (8.1cm), Stroke = 77.6mm (7.76cm), cylinders = 4 Solution: 0.7854 x 8.1 x 8.1 x 7.76 x 4 = 1599.5cc Crossflows love compression. I would be use flattop pistons. Also the 1300 pistons have you checked the pin to deck height, because if they have the same bore as a 1600... Where is the reduction in displacement to make it a 1300? The stroke must be different, they might not even work with the 1600 stroke/crank

i am building a zetec "blacktop" to go in my mk2 , with a difference i am fitting an xflow water pump conversion !
Look nice in my garage ❤
After running a 38, v6 capri carb on my 1700 xf then 40s then gain was not worth the pain but when you add the music it was.
The noise it the best bit 100% 😍😍
Love your Videos ;-)
You can get exhaust manifold gaskets that can cope with. 062" dents.
Remflex 3063
you need to watch penguin motors, graham has already got all the dyno answers...
all the best for the new year young man
And you Paul, have fun mate 👍
Oh God, I wish I knew Paul in the NEC would give you a 1740 engine I got in the garage I got no use for would love you ues it
Thinking of building a Kitcar next year with a cross flow in, will buy it off you 100%

Good vid

Was the cross flow all it was cracked up to be?
Hi I would like to know to replace diff shim replacement on the 1600 sport please and how to alignment Enjin and driveshaft angle so there are no vibration on hi speeds
Have a look at Penguin Motors, he does loads of xflow and pinto stuff, cams/carbs/manifolds etc.
My mate had a very similar escort in the late 80s,I’m sure it had a demon tweeks engine??
Cool 👍👍
Excellent build vid. So pleased you pulled the raffle on this car now. I had £50 on it. I would love to know how much this rebuild has cost.👍
So if i have +0.020 pistons does that make the engine 1620cc
Full detail carbs video?
