This is a powerful story. The government must take action to tame this crisis. When other Kenyans are going through hard times to find water for domestic use, on the other side water is ravaging their lives. Something must be done.
These people are real heroes. They have remarkable resilience. May God bless them and give them comfort and mental strength to overcome their challenges. Isaiah 65:21 "They will build houses and live in them, And they will plant vineyards and eat their fruitage". Jehovah is well aware of the struggles of his creation, His people and He yearns for the time He will right the wrongs they have faced.
I believe county governments can allocate a fund for climate change that can help mitigate against such destructions and protect people. Dredging of existing rivers can offer a viable solution to increase water storage capacity and reduce the encroachment into human settlements. But we must all take responsibility for climate change. Otherwise it will be the end of us.
Some people are dying coz of draught others are displaced by water. Govt should allocate money to irrigate dry areas with fresh water from these lakes. Maybe it can maintain the water levels.
But the knowledge of the consequences is there, if blame is to be laid is to the government for not acting on information. What is the point of having scientists if what they know isn't put into action?
prof Gilbert has explained well the possible causes of the flood disaster. for human disturbance controlling population near these lakes would reduce the floods and at same time reduce victimization. Tectonic movement and climate change are natural causes little can be done.
That, yes, but I feel theres a solution for these people to reclaim their land. Silt buildup in the lake is one of the reasons it's over spilling; the bottom could be dredged, dykes/ diverting water flow is another option. Rethinking housing design with elevation and waterproofing. Of course, will need the motivation and funding to get it done but giving up is not an option. Edit: we know about climate change and tectonic activity, doesn't mean we can't adapt to deal with it. This is how we have geothermal plants.
Yeah, time to correct our mistakes, by replanting the trees we cut, otherwise, our kids will have no where to go. And the people of Nakuru are just paying for their mistakes, after damaging Mau forest.

Africa is the least prepared, and governments seem unprepared to handle these disasters that will be far too frequent in the days to come.
Don't get it twisted the USA isn't either and they show it time and time again after every hurricane, wildfire and any other natural disasters

It was prophesied locally that the time this lake will expand is when that prophecy of Isaiah shall fulfill.

Just how much money does govt need to dig boreholes set up nurseries and plant trees in schools and other places??
When we try to sensitize people about the important to conserve environment, no one even show interest to listen.
Freedom 4 Kenyans is needed

They need to be compensated by wild life ministry.
Those kids are swimming near crocs 😳😳😳
Let us remember that some people build very close to water catchment areas. Let us not place the blame squarely on climate change
I have seen this in Homabay, makes me wonder has Lake Victoria been expanding over the years? 🤔

Prof Gilbert is nor a prophet of doom but clearly its time for the government to adopt all proposed remedies.
God will always provide for his people
kenyans are good at exposing their bad even when they are better off compared to others
When God created man, already had created the environment conducive for human survival including a food garden garden
