Buddy Rich, arguably one of if not the greatest modern drummers was one of Neil Pearts idols and inspirations. R.I.P. Neil Peart 👊🏻
no RIP for buddy? 😢
@@ripvanwinkle2002 no disrespect to Buddy, being a drummer, I too was motivated and was a super fan of Buddy. I saw him once live. This was a Neil Peart (saw Rush 17x) video hence the remembrance of NP. Of course R.I.P. Buddy Rich…
@@KennethSavage-nn2vv i was actually teasing a bit.
buddy, gene krupa, all those 1st gen rock and roll drummers are just amazing to watch
@@ripvanwinkle2002 agree 👊🏻
This orchestra Neil Peart is playing with sounds like the Nelson Riddle orchestra. Riddle's music had a 1940's big band / jazz sound. Frank Sinatra performed with Riddle's orchestra. Buddy Rich probably did too.
Neil "The Professor" Peart.... Many say the Greatest Drummer Of All Time. I agree having seen him live. He can play any style like a true Master Craftsman he is.
Can’t really see Bonham or Keith Moon doing this but maybe Stewart Copland ❤
@@batman1169 Bonzo and Moony were very organic and spontaneously less controlled then what Neil displays here. They wouldn't have the discipline to execute like this.... BUT, they sure were GREAT at what they did.
Neal Peart was an exceptional artist but Buddy Rich had the ability to make a drum kit sound like a one man orchestra.
@@nathans3241I never liked Buddy Rich drumming. All buzz rolls and very little contracting feels. After thirty seconds it all sounds the same and I lose interest... AND Rich was a total asshole as a person, even his own band did not like him much. We all have our own opinions.
NP was the greatest drummer for Rush and progressive rock. Sorry to say but there are much better drummers out there and NP knew it. His go to favorite was Steve Smith for a reason
Neil was the greatest drummer of all times, and he wrote a majority of the lyrics for Rush. He is greatly missed.
Uh….no….from a drumming standpoint there are much better drummers out there. NOs favorite was Steve Smith for a reason. Neil was an insane musician overall.
Just imagine Neil riding his motorcycle to each show. Theirs lots more. Watch their video about the band. Lighted Stage i think.
Neil was the reason I have a 128 piece Drum Kit.
The lead saxophonist with the bushy hair, damn I wish I could recall his name… that man was always in the background and never got the recognition he deserved, as far as I’m concerned.
I know he’s passed on, RIP saxophone guy. You were great.
The name you're looking for is Steve Marcus.
Fantastic music!!!
You should check out Buddy Rich, he was one of the best!
Nice performance by Neil.
Miss him being here.
You need to watch buddy Rich's solo called The impossible solo. He had a heart attack during the solo!!!!!
Buddy's band is used to virtuosity in drumming and even they seem impressed with Neil's chops. 😊
The GOAT, humbly paying homage to his elders and those he learned from.
NP paying homage to the GOATS.
I started playing drums when I was 8, I'm now 62.
Although I was predominantly a prog-rock drummer I learned early on that learning to play many different genres and rhythms is the best thing you can do.
Learn from the best from all nations.
I don't have much time for these high speed drummers as they lack emotion and subtlety but people like buddy and Niel are the ones I aspired to.
A rare commodity in this world of false computer reliant recording.
Their talent will live on in the souls of those who know the true spirit of musical art.
🖖🏽❤🇬🇧
RUSH LIVE……I was lucky enough to see one of the last shows before Neil died at SPAC N.Y. Simply the most talented three man band ever. Incredible performances every time. “In eight years I’ll be seventy one, I can play Charlie Watts drum parts when I’m seventy one, I can’t play Neil Peart’s drum parts when I’m seventy one” - Neil Peart at sixty three.
The very end after the solo is what Neil uses in concert with Rush at the end of his solo
Thankyou JMBOY TV for reviewing this, miss the man greatly, thankyou.
Thank you for doing COTTON TAIL there were so many sides to Neil and to understand RUSH you need to see ALL of Neil....excellent reaction ❤🇨🇦
Watch 2008 Neil with buddy Rich big band
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Buddy Rich was awesome! Theres some videos on youtubes with him the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson that are great!
Many consider Buddy Rich to be the best drummer, and that may be true to some people, even Neil did a Tribute, but we all have our favorites...Favorite Drummers I have seen Live…. Phil Ehart - Kansas… Neil Peart - Rush… Nick Mason - Pink Floyd…. Bob Seibenberg - Supertramp… Frank Beard - ZZ Top…. Charlie Watts - The Rolling Stones… Simon Phillips - Toto.....and dozens more.
I recorded one of their last shows. Neil did an awesome solo... at my place to be viewed
Had a tet' a tet' with a You Tuber re: whether "Neil Swings." So, I went down a rabbit hole, and this was an earlier Jazz performance for Neil and he was not happy with his performance so he started his education with both Freddie Gruber and later Peter Erskine. In 2008, Peart played "Love for Sale" with the Buddy Rich band and absolutely killed it. Case closed! lol.
I was a big band drummer for community stage band…. imagine that my favorite rock drummer is honoring my favorite drummer of all time…. Pure heaven.
Human Beings... The Only Living Creature In The Universe that can do what he is doing, but he is the only one that can do it like he does.
i know we all came to hear Neil..
but MAH GAWD that bass player WILL NOT BE DENIED!
Neil could of rested on his laurels in being one of the best rock drummers of all time but he was always challenging himself to go the extra step and learn something new. He was also a great lyrist and an author of a number of books.
“If you don’t have ability, you wind up in a rock band” ~ Buddy Rich
Military Or Match Grip... Greatness.
You should watch the 2008 performance in the Buddy tribute show, he improved quite a bit, and you get to hear a big band version of Rush's instrumental YYZ.
Thanks Man!
Anyone calling Neil a drummer is insulting to him. The depth of Neil’s talent and versatility makes him a consummate percussionist.
The most interesting fact here is that Neil had been unhappy with his playing here. He had also felt around this time that he had peaked. Which led him to take lessons with jazz drummer Freddie Gruber. So even when he had been considered one of the best drummers of all time he was still learning and improving his craft.
Absolutely Amazing
Should check out the actual Buddy Rich.
Buddy Rich is a jazz drummer, yes, and you gotta do his Impossible Solo. Neil did a Buddy Rich tribute for a reason. Not Gene Krupa, Keith Moon, John Bonham, etc, but Buddy. The contrasts between Neil's and Buddy's kits is pretty comical but Buddy didn't need more! You don't need to do an official reaction to Buddy but you need context
All the great drummers from the 60'-70's looked up to the great drummers from the era of swing, big band and jazz and when you watch Neil paying homage to Buddy, you're seeing why the likes of Neil Peart and John Bonham were heavily influenced by them.
Buddy Rich didn't write any Brilliant Lyrics, that I know of... just sayin
Buddy said everything he ever had to from behind his drums...and he said it better than most.
@@Tonyr0206 We all have our opinions. I never liked Buddy or his attitudes or drumming was boring... so.
