660, put the 686 big bore on it, massive power difference. My father in law has that same sxs. Physically great shape, motor hurting for power. Took a weekend and did a 686 upgrade on it. Now it's even more obnoxiously loud than before, but tons of power at the ground. Nice find. They still can't compete with the Can Ams but decent low end utvs.

For what you have into it, that's really not bad at all. It's no screaming rocket by any means, but it is a grumbling growler.. nice work Joe

Glad it fired up. You're gauge probably has some pins inside the gauge where they are soldered to the board probably has cold joints. I had a similar issue with these gauges hard to see with the naked eye so I got a digital microscope from Amazon to inspect and sure enough they were broken just had to resolder them and works like new again.
UTV sounds like it's running great. 👍👍

You did it the right way to make sure the piston, rings, cylinder, valves and valve seals were good to go. But seeing those oil rings a little stuck as the most likely culprit for the smoking issue, it is possible some Marvel Mystery Oil mixed with oil and fuel could have possibly done the trick without the need for a top end rebuild. Nice work and nice result.

I saw mecanics take a rim air valve stem to push on the carb valves to grind them, (39th minute in the video), pushing instead of pulling on them still with the drill! But its really up to the guy doing the job to go by the way he likes, thanks for the video you helped me a lot🙂 Very useful!

I think it's time for you to go to the next level and purchase a micrometer to measure cylinder bore diameter and taper.
As far as honing goes the expandable is the best for removing very slight taper, the ball hone is only used for cross hatching the bore.
A clean engine is a happy engine.

Subjective question here- someone in your shoes skill wise: in a previous comment you mention this as a long job…. Is it fair to say too end rebuilds are a time consuming job (related to sxs vs atv Vs bike) but not technically difficult?
Or do you rate this harder because there could potentially lots of little gotchas that like ring gap, timing, proper torque settings etc.?

For those that don't know what loctite is, it's basically a glue. As far as i know there are 3. Although i only really use 2. Blue and red.
Blue is weaker. no heat but does help in vibration. Red is stronger and truly believe its super glue.
