We totally need RPGs that are based on different mythologies. What The Witcher has done for slavic mythologies has been amazing and we need more of that!
I completely agree. That's my goal with my game and this series. But I want the RPG to work for every mythology, game that works as myth and fairytale story structure role play game.
yea, it broke me. Unfortunately its only presentable for my Uni board who don't know how to play TTRPG. Idea is sound, but I didn't have enough time to test mechanics and its missing some details. I was really upset for not finishing completely
Yes! Ive been working on a fantasy setting and have been looking for ways I can represent caucasian culture, mythology, and culture because as an Armenian I feel like the caucasus is forgotten quite alot, Thank you for this video.
Glad I could help, this is exactly why I made my channel, to introduce Caucasus and its neighbours to the popular culture. I'm planing to make more videos on this subject, these are just the introduction videos
I would love to hear more about Caucasus mythology. I’ve tried to dig into it in the past, but a lot of text I could find was in Kartvelian or Armenian with no good English translation
thats a big problem even for me. not a lot of content online. Had to read bunch of books, not a lot of books. so A lot I just had to get from primary sources, as in people who still practice the old ways and scholars who study this topic
David Hunt's "Legends of the Caucasus" is probably the best basic book of the region's folk tales you can get internationally. But yes, there's very little online, and short of going to Georgia other collections of myths are hard to come by - and as Bordo says even those have their limits. There's certainly some good academic work being done on the history of various myths and stories, both folkloric and religious (I was at a talk recently about the myths of St. George & The Dragon which was arguing for a Georgian origin to the text) but it's often difficult to access. I have one of two projects on the back-burner around Caucasus folklore as well, so hopefully there will be more good available material and more modern versions/games/explorations of Caucasian lore in the coming months and years :)
Really looking forward to this! The comments on Svan/Khevsur isolation and Christianity are quite interesting to me as this is something I think we're starting to reassess a bit in academic medieval history for the region: quite a few of the scholars, especially who work on architecture, are now arguing for greater interchanges between Svaneti and the lowlands at an earlier stage than people used to think was the case. Which has led to some theorising that there may be "waves" of influence on the folklore/folk religion, where e.g. you get some earlier periods of the middle ages where there was higher traffic with the lowlands, then some later periods where there was more isolation again during which bits of initially Christian lore that got introduced develop in unusual ways). As you say, it's very complex (but very interesting)! I have vague plans to write some very short intro articles to the themes of Caucasus folklore sometime, I'll let you know if I actually manage to get round to it - as you know I share your scatterbrain issues :)
very interesting. doe keep me noted I find this topic so fascinating. do you know of Jgriag? Svan god of war and honor, its saint George! when usually pagan traditions turn into Christian ones, here christian tradition turned pagan
yes, well I just made it. It took me a while to build up to it, but I finally made the patreon! If still interested in supporting, here it is patreon.com/Bordoshow
I'm really interested in learning more about Slavic people's lives and mythology since conflict in UA has drawn my attention. Caucasus people mythology and livelihoods is also interesting and shaped the region. ((I believe Poland to be the continuation of the Rusk, UA to be influenced by the later Cossack people's, and Russya to the Urals to be of the Muskavite tradition. East of the Urals are Asian countries that were dominated by the Mongol and later Muskavite states, neither have anything to do with the original Rusk.))
there are some differences and some similarities. But a lot of stories are told in so different ways that each retelling is an unique story on its own.
People skip Georgian / Caucasian mythology and history mainly because of the Soviet Union and the Cold War, but it can even be traced back to the lines drawn by the Mongol Invasion, the Roman empire, and Catholicism. When I lived in Georgia and tried to explain the country to folks in the US, I would start by explaining that Georgian history and mythology was European history. I'd dive into the story of Amirani/Prometheus and the Golden Fleece and then Stalin. People's minds were blown. I'd love to see you finish your game. I tried teaching some kids RPGs when I was there, and it just wasn't something their grasped easily.
Caucasian history is really interesting and I think we could learn a lot more about history in general if more research was done in this area. Thank you for the video. In your opinion, do you think the Kartvelians and the Vainakh people have same origins? I realise this is a complicated question that doesn't have a simply answer since times change and people do too but Im more curious about the origins of these two languages
All Caucasian peoples share Ancient Caucasian Hunter Gatherer DNA and added Anatolian Farmer to the west. Xevsur, Tush and Mtiuls of north east Caucasian highlands share almost full CHG dna jut like Vainakh who they border. But we are talking about history of people that stretches back thousands and thousands of years. Basically we are Ancient brothers
@@thebordoshow That's very interesting. Thank you for replying. I have been studying Celtic pagan beliefs and can see some similarities but that doesn't necessarily have to mean anything since a lot of people were sun worshippers

The idea that the Proto Indo-European culture originated in the Caucasus have been debunked. The archaeological evidence we have nowdays points towards it being the Yamnaya culture, from current day Ukraine, where it began.

Semitic people are not Caucasian at all, according to Semitic history Shem is the father of the Semitic people his brother Japhet is the father of indo European which would be Caucasian. The Semitic people where already at a high point of civilization centuries before Caucasians.
Noahs ark is where? All Noahs grandchildren are Caucasian by birth. Also you are very mistaken if you think that Caucasian means indo-European. Caucasians are decendants of Caucasian Hunter Getherers and Anatolian Farmers. CHG has patrolinial haplogroup J1 and J2, which is also dominant in Semitic people. AF have Haplogroup G2a and are the people that brought Agriculture and civilisation to South Europe and Mediterranean coast long before indo-eros. Again, outside of Caucasus, highest concentration is with Jews, especially Georgian Jews. Indo-eros from from Caucasus Hunter mixing with Eurasian nomad in North Caucasus. So yes, both Indo-Europeans and Semitic people originate from Caucasus including many others, just like the bible says. Because that's where Noahs ark stopped and first flood survivors multiplied, before the tower of Bable was built. Targamos is the ancestor of all modern Caucasians and he according to legend was the only one against the Tower being built, so he survived the wrath of God.
