I wonder about the logistics of her performance, like, did she give it a 10-count or something before answering what she was clearly hearing in real time?
There is something about the obviously fake looking practical effects that makes this all the more hilarious than it would if they were more realistic.
Well there is something to be said for making something to real... I once made a video effect that suggested people taking over a show by using our frequency (as if they were transmitter pirates). This show had been severely plagued for years by seriously bad reception from transmitters (often resulting in either test cards showing or seriously long frozen frames) due to a public Wi-Fi network in the city (our transmitters relied on the same frequency, and the network might also have been operating outside standards). The person who was watching at one of the receiver sites that was meant to pick up one of the mobile camera's saw the video effect of the supposed interruption come on and not only he, but half of our crew immediately felt absolutely devastated that "it was happening again". Needless to say, the effect looked a little bit to real to some people :P.
Despite common misconceptions, old satellite delay has almost nothing to do with the signal having to travel the distance (the round-trip even to geostationary satellites is less than half a second) rather the bandwidth limited by the weaker signal to that distance. This is why in true depictions of old satellite delay the resolution is also crappy.
Well excuse me, Professor Brainiac, but I _worked_ in a Satellite broadcasting facility for 10 years, I think I know how a satellite broadcast delay works.

Not going to lie, we once had a live broadcast surrounding a Dutch festivity in my city that we eventually had a transmitter switching to about a 10 second delay (this was a buffering mechanism to make it stop going to really low bitrates). This was working both ways, what the camera saw was 10 seconds in the past compared to what we were seeing in the technical director's room, and the intercom was about the same time back, so some things needed a 20 second time-window before we would switch the camera live, which (obviously) made things difficult and really required us to be super alert (and this was with a cameraman who knew how to handle his camera as if it was always live). At one point we were able to switch back the intercom by about a 2,5-5 second delay and gave the cameraman and reporter the instruction to move to a different location. Upon counting along at which we were absolutely sure the camera operator and reporter had heard the instruction we forgot the delay in the camera itself, and we accidentally switched live a little too early. We heard the reporter negotiating with the camera operator about a certain spot to stand by saying something like "No, look we can go here...." *see the cameraman make an even more steady shot than he was already doing* and then a loud "Oh fuck!" from the reporter for being in the wrong place while being asked to come back on camera for a small standup. They once said digital equipment would make things so much easier (and in some places that definitely happened), but the almost delay-less equipment costs soooo much money that in these cases it's absolutely annoying when there is no budget for it.
