Thank you so much for these tutorials, I would never have discovered ucupaint otherwise, and experienced how much it improves blenders texture painting:) deuces
Deuces! I am amazed at how good your videos are! I can't wait to start creating something just because of this video! Thank you so much for this and I hope you're doing well :D
Quick Tip for anyone new, when making the low poly rock, instead of constantly clicking fill, and clear inner/outer, at the top you can check box them up there, and you wont have to keep redoing it, also Great tutorial, your last one was very usful to me
This is great! Could you show us how to make a seamlessly tileable texture on ucupaint? Is that doable when using procedural generation or does it only work for things that are hand-drawn?
I think you would need to use a combination of shaders and geo nodes to create seamlessly tileable textures with all of the PBR maps, which is a bit out of the scope of things i'm ready to teach. If you want to do a handpainted seamless texture, though, you can easily paint one in Krita and then import it.
I also tried PBR Painter and of the two my preference is Ucupaint. Fewer crashes, just as powerful and a more straightforward interface. That's been my experience anyway!
Do you mean you have multiple objects joined into one? Ucupaint can't bake several objects at once quite yet. You can bake objects separately and then join them though, that will work
You can 100% use Ucupaint for PBR texturing. You can do realistic, semi-stylized, fully stylized or handpainted - or anything you want. For example, you can open full sets of textures (like the color, roughness, normal, metallic maps) to a single layer, all at once, by selecting 'Open Images to Single Layer" from the Add New Layer menu. Then you can edit or mask each image as needed, add more layers with completely different textures and blend them, etc. Hope that answers your question for now, and I may cover realistic texturing in a future video 😁
Hi there!! Absolute banger video, I'm currently following along. At 8:44, when I try to rotate the gradient, nothing happens. In fact, if i put anything in ANY of the rotation axes, nothing happens, would you happen to know the reason for this? No matter what I do, I can't get the gradient to rotate :( update!: Turns out it was just some weird bug, when i made a new blend file, it fixed the problem! :)
Thank you so much! This is my longest vid and was a huge effort, so I'm really glad some folks are finding some value in it! Ah, Blender. Turns out nothing in the universe is immune to the ol' toggle it off and on method hahah. I have noticed, upon very rare occasion, that Ucupaint and Blender don't want to play nice. The solution for me has always been exactly what you said - you can also usually append the object and its materials so you don't have to totally restart. Cheers!
@@moltenbolt You're actually killing it man! I've been using blender for a few years now, but only occasionally off and on as a hobbyist! I've dreaded texture painting so much, I even ended up buying substance painter at some point. I've always been afraid of trying hand painting bc of my lack of color knowledge, and I've always used procedural texturing via "layer" setups in shader graph. Finding your channel today was such a cool gem in the haystack so to speak!!! I feel like texture painting isn't so scary anymore, and layer systems like most photo editing or texturing programs being brought into blender thanks to this addon is a phenomenal thing. Thanks for your time and attention to detail, and for not taking things too fast! I really appreciate it 🙏😊
thanks for tuto.. I have a question with ucupaint, is there a way to bake all the textures in one texture? I mean to bake even the normal maps and stuff, just one texture, I dont want to have normals in a different texture, ..thanks!
I actually don't know how to do that with any program, I've always needed separate images. I know you can pack non-color data onto separate RGB channels for efficient use in Unreal and stuff but idk about 1 single total texture 🙃
I'll add you to the list 😁 Sadly I don't think you can duplicate a mask from one layer to another - but I'll ask Ucupumar (the addon creator) and see what he says!
i was wondering if there is a way to use transparency with ucupaint? for instance with the normal texture paint tool you can use "erase alpha" and then you get transparency in your texture. is there a way you can do it with ucupaint? i was trying to get a gradient where there is one color and it just fades to..well..transparency lol
If you select the Color Channel at the top of Ucupaint, then open its dialog box underneath the channel list (there should a yellow dot with a tiny white play button on the bottom right, next to the words Color Channel) there should be a checkbox for "Alpha". You need to enable it on the Color Channel, then you will be able to use transparency like normal 😁
Very odd. Make sure you have the latest release for Ucupaints releases page: github.com/ucupumar/ucupaint/releases If you are still having issues, try out the Ucupaint discord, Ucupumar (the addon's creator) is friendly and awesome: discord.gg/xY8QE8CV
Hehe you're not the only person with that feedback. I will be dialing them back significantly moving forward 😁 I'm still figuring out the format - but I hear you and I will adjust accordingly. Thanks for the feedback!
