PIKES PEAK 2020 QUALIFYING, DONOHUE 1ST IN CLASS AND OVERALL, PORSCHE SWEEPS TA1 QUALIFYING

Like most of motorsport there are qualifying sessions to determine run order, grid positions and all competitors fight to be in the lead. The Pikes Peak International Hillclimb is no different in terms of needing to place well within the run order. One of the main considerations is weather, as mornings are usually more consistent, more stable than afternoons, so it’s important to run earlier than later. In 2019, for example, rain started to creep in in the early afternoon which then turned to hail. The course was then limited to just half length, then closed down altogether.
All classes qualify through the first 1/3 of the total course, the lower section of the mountain. Best out out of three runs is the determining number.
David Donohue, piloting the Porsche of The Main Line GT2 RS CS ran a best time of 03:55.942 which is the fastest for the Time Attack 1 class as well as overall. Porsche swept qualifying in TA1, with David Donner in the other GT2 RS CS and Jeff Zwart in the 935 close behind. There is still work to do and the team will be back on the mountain Friday for further testing.
Pikes Peak can be very unpredictable and so the mountain will be the judge of who takes the win come Sunday, August 30th. The team has come together very well we are grateful for everyone involved.
