Roleplay-wise, imagine meeting a dude like Charnel. Lost his daughter to natural causes and almost went insane in grief, has led an interstellar empire for over 300 years and before that, he was a highly acclaimed military general able to unite his home planet under his rule. The experience he would have would be insane.
This reminds me of the time I was playing as the UNE and kept getting invited to a hegemony federation. Eventually I accepted just so they'd stop spamming invitations. Long story short, eventually ended up becoming the undisputed leader, and the other members loved me so much that they built a monument in my honor and repeatedly refused to change to a more egalitarian federation type.
If you get a mod that disables AI habitats it also makes a big difference to late game slow down. They go absolutely crazy building and filling up habitats.
yep, I had a war with the entire galaxy once, I only conquered actual planets, and had a colossus programed to go to every single habitat and blow them up, there were way more than 99 habitats...
@@testificles240 I ended up killing well over 3000 pops (not only from habitats) and you know what? it kinda solved the lag situation too, the game did start running faster than it was previously, but well, given that I literally did take over the entire galaxy, that was a lot of effort to reduce lag
I love the updates on Skrand’s past in the middle of fighting the galactic crisis. I imagine it like a movie, with narration on Skrand’s life as they command the galaxies fleets against the crisis, so cinematic.
Its made even better with the fact that Skrand fought desperately as his Civilisation's only hope against an existential threat, and ultimately failed. Now, he commands the largest Armada in the galaxy and fighting back against another existential threat - The Pretoryns. And succeeded. He couldn't save his people, but he could save everyone else. A true Hero.
A suggestion for raising the difficulty your all-Crisis run: Increase the Hyperlane density. Not understanding chokepoints is arguably the AI's greatest weakness, so not having easy chokepoints for yourself should make the attempt more challenging.
I am liking this idea. If the AI has that weakness then that would be a good way to deal with it. It also adds some delightful disruption of the existing defensive positions and connects lots of groups who do not trust each other.
Right from getgo we have a human sci-fi empire that ticks off every self-gratifying military industrial powerhouse fantasy and I am all for it Hope for one day we get a more episodic episode again, because I'm starting to feel nostalgic for the days of writing lore for your Stellaris series
Always euphoric seeing a new stellaris video :) Also, 0.05 growth required scaling seems fine. Only after 2000 pops will your pop assembly cost double, and doesn't seem to be that much of a penalty unless you're playing very wide and want to fill up loads of planets. Edit: never mind, there's a huge difference. At least, on my really wide empire.

One thing you could have used is the precursor's special building. If I remember correctly, it is a star base modul that enables the station to be a smaller mega-shipyard (not sure if the bonuses apply empire wide).
Another thing that's very funny, and that I would very much recommend, is stacking Charismatic leader trait and Spiritualist/Cutthroat Politics for Edict Cost Reductions. Why? Well, it's simple- -Charismatic is the biggest cost reduction trait; for example, with my savescummed Machine Empire running edict cost reduction, I could get -50% edict cost reduction permanently. A Spiritualist Cutthroat Politics empire running the same build can get -90% edict cost right from the start of the game, if they're lucky and get 5 Lv2 charismatic leaders early on; once you have full Psionic you can drop one of those Lv2 leaders for something else while still having -90% edict cost, or run with four Lv1 leaders with -7.5% each. This multiplies before Empire Size comes into account. -Edict cost reduction stacks in a rather silly fashion with Edict Fund. If you have -50% edict cost, then every point of edict fund is worth twice as much, and with -90%, every point of edict fun is worth 10 times as much. So that +35 edict cost from a Lv2 Charismatic councillor becomes worth 350 unity at -90% fund cost. -Edicts are powerful, and you become super-flexible by being able to stack a silly amount of edicts. (Including things like the Strategic Resource edicts, since those don't get the Edict Fund but are still cheaper.) I haven't tried out the full spiritualist version, but the build really takes off towards the midgame once you start getting enough edicts to actually use that massive edict fund; even with a Machine Empire trying to avoid burning unity, I could combine a boatload of edicts for some pretty hefty production when I'd started unlocking the Subsidies edicts. Fanatic Spiritualist, Cutthroat Politics and Psionic Ascension are the obvious route. From there, you have one more ethic and civic to decide on the bulk of the build. You'll probably want at least some of your traditions and civics to focus on reducing Empire Size, so that you can make as much use of that edict fund as possible. A few I'd note... -Efficient Bureaucracy makes Bureaucrats and Priests produce edict fund as well as unity. Obvious synergy there. -Beacon of Liberty reduces empire size from pops and increases unity output, which goes well with Domination's pop size reduction, for a free people leading a free Hegemony because irony. -Feudal Society plus Aptitude is the most immediately-obvious combo; creating vassals and having lots of Governors with Aptitude traditions results in a very low Empire Size to keep your edicts at minimal cost, while also saving an Ascension Perk you'd otherwise probably want for Shared Destiny. -Imperial Cult gives +100 edict fund, and is pretty weak normally despite its cool name, so an opportunity to try and optimise it is always welcome. Might go well as your third civic with Efficient Bureaucracy, to stack priest bonuses. -Shadow Council, for a secondary Espionage focus, since Cutthroat Politics has Codebreaking too. (You can take certain operations like Sabotage Starbase or Smear Campaign off of auto-trigger to target them, which makes them significantly more useful; Sabotage Starbase to break down the door before you launch a war to finish off an enemy, for example.) -Ascensionists, because ascension for smol empire size.

27:40 also with the Genius Armorer the +20% hardness stacks.
