A photo about why it's SO HARD to move (even when you're excited about it)

  • Why do we feel kind of weird and sad when we move to a new place, even when it's a place we're excited about? It's pretty simple: moving triggers the grief cycle. It may not trigger it as hard as losing someone we love, but it still happens, and this photo from my series exploring grief, loss, and moving on opens up the conversation about the moves we've made in our lives.

I love the deep reflection on your personal experience influencing the photo. Really adds a lot of color as my experience viewing the photo and a lot of depth to my experience consuming your art! Thanks for sharing man!

I love that you’re doing composites with large format film in this series. This is a timely video. My neighbours are moving today. They’ve lived in that apartment for a long time. Although they’re not moving far they don’t look happy today.

Hey Imran, I have been following your life advice from strangers on Insta and wanted to show some love for this really cool and creative project! I think it is an awesome idea and I am keen to see how it will all unfold.
For me, my first big move was to University and I was excited to begin my own journey away from home. However, I did still experience grief. Recently I have been traveling and moving through europe. Something interesting to me that I noticed about my emotions towards moving is that I am adverse to giving up comforts that I have gained by living somewhere. Going to a new place that doesn’t have the same comforts (yet) is challenging and certainly can cause grief. But to me when you miss something that means that something good had to have happened:)

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences man! The more we pay attention to the way we're really feeling, the more we can improve. As hard as it can be to confront those feelings, it ultimately makes us more free.

Just so you on CNN Smerconish and heard you were going to do a coffee table book. With a little low tech it should be designed with an audio speaker and ability to playback those snippet gem conversations you recorded aligned with that person’s photo. Glad you discovered the same thing I have in life and that we are far more similar than different than media portrays. What you did and are doing has value. Keep this up.
