I Paint a Self-Portrait Every Five Years (oil painting)
Переглядів 4874 місяці тому
I paint a self-portrait every five years to document how I age, how my style as an artist changes, and how my perception of myself changes over time. I spend anywhere from 40 to 80 hours on a portrait, and the time is spent doing some deep reflection about my life so far and where I'm headed next. It has been an awesome practice in self-reflection and meditation while yielding a tangible result...

What if I set it up at 400iso with a porta400 film in ? Is it going to be underexposed ? Thanks !
Great little camera I bought years ago for $50 and taken a lot of great photos with it. I still have it today.
Great video and well-informed amigo!
Please Review Royer Royflex III
Please compare to wonderful french Royer Royflex its fantastic too!
I'll be honest, I see a difference and prefer the Rolleiflex.
sick, thanks!
Great video! Will it work on an APSC inklcuding adapter?
Love your video and I tried it out myself. Thank you so much. Do you know where I can find download the 3D Printing files for the take up spool?

I put a Portra 800 12 ear expired 120 roll through a CT scanner… looked fine…. for most shots. Some though were super washed out and weird. Not a controlled test so could be user error, film age or the 1920's camera used. Still waiting on the EIR that I also sent through accidentally to see how it is...
If you're only sanding down as far as the ridges going, then clipping. Cant you just clip the ridges away without sanding?
In my limited experience, some cameras you can get away fine with just clipping away the edges - and some required clipping as well as sanding to work properly as they had slightly narrower interiors, particularly where the film sits.
i really hope you can continue to make a living with these, tt is so good for short form art projects and yt had a lit to learn 😩🙌
Pepperoni is so unique but so fascinating
No comments? Lemme fix that
Try 1000 pizza rolls
YESS
Just purchased this camera today! So far mint!!! Love it! Does the ISO on the lens have to match the same as the film ISO ? Thanks for the video.
An excellent way of expressing your feelings, using a media we all have a connection with.
Great video. I have the Yashica and I’d rather have more film!

And this is why I’ll take a Canon P over an M3 every day of the week and twice on Sunday, or an old T-51 over a PRS, etc. Yes, there’s a level at which you get what you pay for. But there’s also a line beyond that which, when crossed, you’re simply paying for marketing hype. If one has money to burn, by all means, buy the hyped brand. But if, like most people, one doesn’t own a money tree, then buy a reputable equivalent for less and do more with the extra cash. This is especially true when we’re talking about tools of one’s craft. Frazetta painted masterpieces with literally a child’s Mickey Mouse branded watercolor set. If one is talented, one doesn’t need the fanciest brand camera. And having the fancy brand camera won’t magically give one talent. To be clear, I’m not knocking owning a fancy camera. I’m only saying one ought not to believe the fancy brand is necessary to produce good photos.
You were extremely fortunate for paying just $20, I payed $50 & the guy wouldn't go any lower he wanted $60 at first. I got the Minolta Hi-matic AF-D which print's the date on the photo. Haven't seen the results yet (1st roll), can't wait! Funny about the Pentax over powering flash, lol...Thx!
Mine that I was given is missing the film rewinding spinny thing on the top so I have to get a replacement for it 😕 can't get the film out 😭
I also have a Yashica A, which is much cheaper than a Yashica Mat or G. I recently created a small channel where I show my film cameras. The link is ua-cam.com/video/F_vXF2LZU4A/v-deo.html I honestly think the Yashica's image is better.
By the way, your photos are amazing!
Hi there Thanks for your video. Do you have any link / comment with people using it thanks to a M42 > Pentax K (digital DSLR) adapter? Cheers Vince
you're so cool!! thanks for sharing your insights and your journey. subscribed! might try this myself!
This deserves more views!!! Subscribed! Also, second.
Yep, agreed. Glad to be in the first couple hundred though!
This reminds me of the ‘7 Up’ documentaries. We’ll get to see your change every 5 years, and also the things that stay the same.
Thanks for making this really informative video, nice seeing side by side comparisons! Just as a comment on the production: maybe it’s because I’m not a native speaker, but I have a bit of a hard time listening to what you are saying because the music is a bit too loud.
It is just those small difference make the price difference. Of course the brand is one of them. I owned 124G and Rolleiflex 3.5 both. 124G is surprisingly good in image, even sharper than planar in center IMO. But I like the tune and bokeh of Planar more, smoother or creamer. Other noticeable advantage includes smaller factor, auto stop when film loading, and most important the viewfinder. IMO, rolleiflex’s viewfinder is best design in that year. even better than Hasselblad 503cw’s. How it folds, and able to use at eye level while still be able to focus. I think the 600$ difference is just nonlinear of ROI in design. The first 500 bucks make big difference, but the next 500 difference only make slightly good.
How much tweak you smoke before this
Meth heads be doing anything to pass the time😂
Why tho
Uhm
I have a yashica and it's amazing. I always wondered how much better a rollie could possibly be.
Undereated maybe a pin?
Nothing beats the Planar 3.5 or the 2.8.
Sorry for the novice question, but how do you get your take-up spool back after winding the film onto it? The one in my camera is original and I don't want to hand it to the developer.
By saying your project is “more art” you’re implying that photographing 40.000 images for a result of 10 makes it less of an art. It very much is art. It takes extreme amount of patience, skill, artistic eye, love for your work to do this. You may prefer a more romantic approach to photography, one image per stranger you meet - great! I love it too. But it’s like comparing Picasso’s work to Michelangelo’s. Michelangelo took years to complete an average painting, while Picasso took days. Both are valid, different approaches with different goals in mind. Also, wildlife photography in general can not be compared to street photography. Although it’s great, what you’re doing is not extraordinary, it’s not new, it’s literally what most street photographers do. It’s how it’s done. The National Geography photographers aren’t doing anything extraordinary either - wildlife photography in general takes a loooot of patience, it’s always thousands of pictures until you get a good one as your target is constantly moving, it doesn’t want to be photographed, animals don’t pose for pictures. NG photographers just have a bigger budget than your average wildlife photographer. Anyway. Both are the same amount of “art”, just different approaches and goals.
But it ain’t a Rollie
Thank you. I'm about to start shooting portraits with my 4X5, but I never learned how to use flash with it.
That's a lot of money
Props to you for giving your time to this👍
