Nintendo should make an external disk drive that can read Wii U games, send it to the Nintendo Switch via USB port or even Bluetooth connection and emulate the Wii U games. The problem is that some games require the Wii U game pad 's screen to play. Maybe there could be a solution of that.
This is so dumb, there are 2 reasons for this: 1. The Switch doesn't have a gamepad or can connect to a Wii U one 2. It doesn't have the DRIVERS for a portable disc player
and 3. he's using a bluray disc type in a DVD drive there is not a single point of compatability down the entire chain, at least with GCN discs in the wii U, the drive supported the DVD format

I'm not sure if that is the dvd unit acting by itself using its own software or if the switch is actually trying to read it. If this is the case, then switch may be capable of reading disks and get software through it. However I don't think nintendo will bring backwards compatibility using this method or release any software with this. they will probably stick to the cards and the eshop.
You know this might be an opportunity for Nintendo to step up their portability by coming out with an update for this! I suggest Sharing this video with Nintendo or others so we get to see movies on the go!

you need a blue ray drive the wiiu games are high density (up to 20gb) if i remember correctly. so yea in a simple dvd drive they will spin just with no read (the switch doesn't handle external drive anyway...)
So Nintendo discs have this special code in the first sector of the disc. This code basically tells the system that reads the disc that it is not readable. This is also with GC and Wii discs

The Nintendo Switch should’ve had a disk slot to pass on the validating the use of games for the console prior. Yeah, I know the all of the home console Nintendo games have been in disks, but that just supports my point for some of the handheld devices such as the DS. There was a slot for DS cartridges and one for Gameboy Advance cartridges.

Why on Earth didn't Nintendo think to allow for something like this to be possible so you can have backwards compatibility and they'd sell out their stock of Wii U games? Text they could have even made it possible to connect your Wii U gamepad to the device wirelessly. And in the process of all this they could have even end up making it compatible with Wii and GameCube games. Come to think of it the Switch Joy cons could already act as either Wii remotes or GameCube controllers... I mean seriously! Why didn't they think of this! Heck I'd even settle for having to buy some Nintendo branded DVD drive peripheral if it ment this was possible! I mean think about it this would allow them to sell out whatever stock they have of Wii U games, components and controllers and allow us the ability to play all of our games for multiple generations it's a win for everyone!

I don't think PC optical drives can read Wii or Wii U's disc. It sounds like it's trying, giving up, trying, giving up, trying, ... It doesn't happen with regular discs. But it may have a driver for optical drives, because when I inserted a disc in a drive(with no SATA data connection), it didn't do anything at all. I don't know other drives tries to read without data, but this is what I believe.
