The biggest shocker to me was how these crazy things happened - I got attacked by a dragon, I saw some dude die, I fought like 10 statues by myself and literally only knowing 4 spells (2 of which aren't combat spells) then defeating a troll pretty much alone. All this in the first two days of me being in and around Hogwarts. And the reaction I get from the other kids and teachers? "Oh, you did that? Nice. Anyway..."
@@brilliantng7041 I liked Albus, and especially Scorpius in the books. And while i never liked him, i'm glad Draco raised him to be good and not how he was raised by his "parents".
I am disappointed you didn't take a sin off for Amit going with you on a single adventure filled with unrestrained goblin murder and going: "This was horrifying! You are crazy! I am not doing anything like this EVER again!". The only sane person in the game.
They needed a reason to have a Ravenclaw Student come along like Sebastian, Natsai and Poppy. As well a reason he won't be doing anything with you. A sin that you missed. It's never once said what the hell Professor Fig teaches. Even his classroom is just called Professor Fig's classroom. The wiki tells me he taught Magical Theory.
It's mentioned by samantha dale that he is an engima and teaches theory and things but only if you're ravenclaw and choose that fig is a good intelligent person
Magical Theory 101: Look outside. Oh wow, a kid flying around on a broomstick. Is it magic? Most likely, yeah. Ok class dismissed. Anyone got any drugs?

What makes you say that? The fact that we learn and (frequently) used the three unforgivables or the fact that we can levitate and bludgeon opponents into paste?
A bit of a comment I posted in another video: If Isadora was right about one thing, it's that it is better to share and study this kind of magic. Nothing stays buried forever. The very fact that Ranrok acquired any info on the Keepers and Fig's wife found the portkey indicates as much. What I find funny is the Keepers thinking the MC would follow all of their ideals and keep a kind of magic that few can see and use a secret. Even if you agree that Isadora was a complete basket case, they aren't in a position to stop you since they're dead and can only communicate through enchanted canvases.
I Choosed "I intend to keep it contained here" and keep it a secret "for now" not "forever" because Isadora was right to study her own magie. I like you said The Keepers have no power over us...
It's cute how the keepers think we'll foolishly continue their ideals based solely on only their perspective. They can fuck right off for all I care. What pisses me right off is that the writers never bothered to put any nuance or present something deeper, they just wanted us to side with the keepers of bunch magically restrictive old fools having us run through their stupid moral purity tests nothing but time wasters if you ask me. I also thought the Ancient Magic plot was completely wasted. I personally believe isadora was able to advance Ancient Magic but not in they way THEY wanted it so they've offed her manipulated/altered memories to make Isadora look bad...what gets me is this....apparently trying to help people is just a no no in this game ....or rather the method one uses is. They also try to compare isadoras situation with sebasteins while I can see similarities they are not one in the same. The game does a really piss poor job at trying to convince us why AM should be kept hidden considering it very heavily relies on nothing but the keepers perspective & desperately so. Yes isadora went to far but how long was that time interval between her father & the students. If the keepers had been nurturing rather than stifling old fools perhaps isadora would still be around then again maybe not....I sense a case of possible jealously from Rackham & the others. I personally have no intention of following their magically restrictive ideals.....I'm hoping the next game gives us actual fucking choices rather than the illusion...I have no interest in being goody to shoes or "being the witch or wizard WE want you to be" bump that age rating up & push the boat all the way out in the next game & make our MC actually have more personality rather than being a bland piece of wood.
@@Rachel-qr8kv I felt the same way, you can't just forbid something just because it's unknown. It's just in the way you use it, there's gotta be some good that can come out of that kind of power, it looked like it at first when Isadora helped to remove her father's pain, it only got bad when she went on a power trip with it.
@@willropa4226 I think the concern is that even in smaller doses its potentially dangerous. I agree with studying it more but one has to keep in mind with magic some things just might permanently damage the person e.g making them less empathetic so even if you don't turn them into an emotionless zombie prolonged pain removal could result in them not caring about others being hurt. Similarly it could be making a "bleeding" effect where even if you use it once the person becomes less and less emotional over time afterwards.
My thoughts on the game is that the gameplay is kind of repetitive and the story is super meh, but I’d be lying if I said that the world wasn’t still fascinating and fun to explore, so props to the graphics and level designers for making some amazing translations from the books and the movies into a game.
To me the game is a huge demo, cause now the world is done some magics are done the castle is perfect, beasts look great flying is great, all the stuff for a good game is there, now they have a base to make more and just keep adding stuff, I expect the next one to be WAY better to me this was an introduction to bigger projects
I couldn't agree more. If it weren't for the graphics and HP universe, this would have been another average open world game. Like you said, the plot was just ok, not amazing. And other aspects like boring side quests just made it ok. I was really into it for about 6 hours or so, but after the gameplay started getting repetitive, I stopped and haven't gone back. I don't think this game was any better than the Ubisoft installments of Far Cry. I didn't hate the game, but I don't understand so many gamers calling for this to win GoTY.
@@ccramit this game is something else to Harry Potter fans, it was really made from fans to fans. Sometimes I find myself just admiring landscapes and the level of details given to the canon, or seeing places and thinking, "that" will happen 100+ years in this location. One thing I did after doing the final boss, was turning the difficult level to max, because fighting was too easy. Now I don't play so frequently as before, but still enjoying everything, and so much more stuff to do yet
28:50 Sebastián could have also used. Accio Bombarda Confringo Depulso Levioso Expeliarmus And many other spells I can't think odd right now. To save his sister. There was no need for a unforgivable.
It was made for the drama, same way that you normally would dodge that giant rock falling on you in the last mission, or Harlow's Crucio. Instead they always made your character stunned in that moment, needed to be saved by someone.
Honestly that was one of the earlier red flags for him in my opinion. One with Crucio he say's you have to mean the spell or it wont work and he's not sure he can do it, two he is 100% certain imperio will work (because its a goblin or because he's already tested it on another student. . .?), three he could have made it drop its weapons and leave but instead he made them kill themselves slowly with a smile on his face after thinking over what to do.
That's the point of his character arc, though. He gets so obsessed with Dark Magic that those Spells are the first to come to mind. He goes on a negative character arc turning from decent guy to sympathetic Dark Wizard.
I truly think they didn’t expect this game to be as successful as it was. It was clear they had no intention of people playing deep into the late game. I’d say the first bit was super fun, challenging and engaging. Once you get a hang of combat, that’s the same time you’ve explored quite a bit and it’s literally rinse and repeat over and over and over and over again. Ever cave you go into, every enemy group you come across, every mission you find; it becomes literally the same. I’d say even now, there’s so much potential for them to add TONS of DLC missions, update enemy, etc. I don’t know if they ever will though. I struggle to see a sequel to this, but who knows. I’d rather them expand what is already here.
I find it funny how the teacher Gives us the Field Guide that Scatters Pages all over Places Students aren't allowed to go. Yet the Proffessor gave us the task to gather the pages. Still love the game lol.
I wish Isidora played a bigger part in the plot. I was hoping the story would show more of her descent into madness to better understand why she started stealing ALL of a person's emotions like her father. Was it an unintended side effect of her using ancient magic and she wasn't there when the rest of her father's emotions leaked out of him? Did she get addicted to emotion magic and thought its power would help her eliminate pain faster? Or did she go really crazy and believe the only way to escape pain was to erase people's ability to feel anything? And her death was so anticlimactic. Part of me thought she was going to be a second-act villain and Ranrok was the warm-up. Even now, I'm thinking she's going to be a big thing in the sequels similar to how Voldemort manages to confront Harry in the first few books by taking different forms. Finding her tryptic empty in Sebastian's questline was a bit of a letdown and makes me think her painting self is in a third portrait plotting something.
@chrisdaughen5257 I can understand why the developers didn't want to use Isidora as one of the antagonists - it would have felt a bit too similar to Voldemort. Honestly, I'm more disappointed with Victor Rookwood, who I initially thought was being built up as a much more interesting villain than how he turned out. What if he acted less like a dumb henchman and actually had a secret plan of his own to claim the ancient magic that we gradually learned more about as the game progressed? What if he had an actual intelligent motivation for wanting such power - maybe Isidora left other clues and he learned about her desire to use magic for more "benevolent" ends, which could then present the player with the option of being able to help him rather than fight hm; this might have allowed for multiple endings and a much better story. But no, he just pops up for a few cutscenes, you blow him up in a pathetically simple boss fight, and he gets mentioned one more time before the game forgets he existed.
@@daigneauray7087the only thing I didn't like was how the keepers burn isadora's portrait i mean I get it for the plot but i believe having her be interacting with us as a neutral ending depending on what you tell her or something
I felt the same way with Sebastian. The idea of a desperate brother, looking for dark relics to save his sister, which are slowly poisoning his mind was one of the more compelling storylines in the game. I wish we spent more time with him to see that gradual descent into madness instead of him waking up one day and chosing violence.
It is mentioned early on that Ominis uses his wand to see and you can see him doing so around the school. Sure, it isn't shown in cutscenes much (if at all), but the explanation is there.
you can also see him freely walking through the castle sometimes while you’re not on a quest or in a cutscene, he always has his wand up pointed for it to guide him
It affected him because it was implied that 1) isodora didnt stoo "fixing" on his father or 2) that magic was so fucked that not only eliminates pain, it eliminayes every single emotion leaving him empty inside (sorry for the bad english, also maybe my spanish version of the game let me to understand it thhis way)
My main issue with Hogwarts Legacy is the very clear lack of communication and understanding that ANY of the characters do. Most of the problems in the game could have easily been avoided if any of the blood characters decided to openly talk with each other about the issues and attempted to understand where one another was coming from.
to be fair that's also how most of the problems came to be in Harry Potter, and just like with the books its up to some random kid who is apparently special to take care of these problems because the magic equivalent to the police don't actually care
About wands, they are not supposed to be used to MAKE magic but rather work as catalysts for spells and make magic easier for wizards, although if you compare it to goblin and elf magic they have advantages of not having to recite spells or carry an annoying object.
Though, if I recall correctly, part of the Goblin uprising was about them wanting the right to carry Wands. Which really makes it even harder to sympathize with the humans here.
@@martijnvangammeren1868 so it looks like someone doesn't like to read comprehensively, or doesn't know what a catalyst is, what I said has DIRECT correlation to the character not using a wand. And as the icing on the cake, only magicians of European origin (including Americans) use them.
20:56 Goblins essentially believe that an item is to be returned to the maker on the purchasers death. So they view the purchase of an item as more of a rental.
Yes but you missed the point. Dartigan was questioning why anyone would ever buy from them knowing that their descendants would have to return it or be labeled thieves. That’s why rentals in the real world require a contract stating the rental period so no one else can claim the item.
@@bsgfan1 as far as I understand in the lore, goblin made artifacts have not been bought by wizards in a long time due to the conflicting nature of ownership between the two.
While the Sword of Gryffindor may have been a tipping point for the first goblin rebellion, it's not the whole reason. It's a little like saying that the American revolution was about tea. I like the idea that goblin culture is different than that of wizards, and that being one of the reasons for conflict, but I think it goes deeper than that. I believe that the goblins are seeking the same rights as wizards, and respect for their culture.
@@Manormouse-04 sure, but to be frank JK Rowling's world building is not the greatest so I doubt there is that much nuance to it. Usually in the lore the explanations are rather straightforward.
@@GageEakins I agree. I just like to "fix" her mistakes with my head canon. I was kind of hoping that Hogwarts Legacy might try to make it make a little more sense too.
+1 sin for you: the game seem to be using the same train for the Hogwarts Express that we see in the movies, probably because of it's iconic nature. The movies were using a Hall Class locomotive (specifically the Olton Hall), but the production of these only started in 1928! This is literally sci-fi technology 30 years from the future! The equivalent of this would be if during the Battle of Hogwarts in 1997, half of the wizards were streaming Voldemort's speech, using iPhone 20s. And based on previous works, the wizards are quite slow when it comes to adopting muggle inventions.
Sadly this isn't much of a Harry Potter game. A Harry Potter game would be something akin to Bully or Persona, not a Ubisoft open world collectathon. They really should've made your character an Auror investigating something at Hogwarts, rather than a student. It would at least explain your proficiency for killing everything around you without batting an eye.
First, no offense to you but no one would want to play a Harry Potter Persona / Bully edition. Second, as for persona it would be as boring as collecting materials in Warframe. As for Bully I've never played it but I think it would be boring as well. Last, you do realize that this isn't based in Harry Potter's time right?
@@LordOfDragons4122 No one would play a Persona-like HP game? Persona is already very popular, it has sold over 8M copies, add to that the setting of HP, which be honest is the reason anyone picked up this game, without Hogwarts and the setting it's just another boring Ubisoft collectathon. Would it have as many sales, maybe no. Would it still sell more than most games, it absolutely would.
@@LordofBroccoli First, yes no one would play a Persona / bully like Harry Potter game. Because that would be boring as hell especially if it has the same mechanics as persona. Second, I'm pretty sure it'll be the same thing as persona 5 if they made a game like that. Plus who would want to play a turn-based Harry Potter game lmao. Third, as I said on the video before the game was released. The game would have done better if your character was a first-year rather than a fifth-year. Fourth, then you can develop your magical skills in both the ancient magic and the regular Magic you would learn at Hogwarts. Fifth, you do realize this game isn't based around Harry Potter right? Why do you think it was called HOGWARTS LEGACY because it takes place 101 years before Harry was born. Seventh, as I said it takes place before Harry was born and if it took place in Harry's time. Don't you think the game would have been called Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Legacy 😒? Eighth, why are you making a big deal out of it being a collectathon? Who cares if it's a collectathon that just means you can explore more around the game instead of how the old games were. Yes the games were good but they could have been better. Ninth, even if it wasn't based around Hogwarts it's still would've been cool to have an open world game like this. Tenth, just imagine going to Fluer or Victor's schools? But it has the open-world exploration of Hogwarts Legacy. That would be an amazing game to play and people would enjoy that as well. Eleventh, as for if it would still make money I'm pretty sure scented based around the universe of Harry Potter. It'll still make money regardless if it's based around Harry Potter or not lmao. Twelfth, guess what? this game isn't based around Harry Potter seeing how that wouldn't make sense as he goes to Hogwarts 101 years after this game takes place.
@@LordOfDragons4122 You realize Harry Potter is the name of the series, not just the main character, right? So when I say Harry Potter game I mean one set in the same universe. 1000% agree with the limited inventory space thing. Unless it's one of those games where you also have to eat, drink, and sleep to survive, there shouldn't be a limit on inventory space or at least a very large limit. Managing inventory every 10 minutes when it's full takes the fun out of the game, especially when you have to destroy or leave behind shit you could be selling.
Or you know they were trying to make players do more than just run through the story, to explore the world and do the side quests, example Merlin Trials that increase your inventory spaces.. But you probably just did the main stories instantly putting all the side stuff off till later but then complained because you didn't have enough inventory space because you didn't pay attention.
@Whirty no actually I was like 90% complete by the time I finish the main quests. You don't know shit. There are better ways to get players not to just rush through the story though, like I dunno, making the side content interesting and rewarding? Being rewarded with inventory space is stupid. That's something you should have anyway.
@@Cwhirt910 dude the issue is that the game drops a TON of loot and strictly limits your inventory space, meaning you’re either constantly stopping the game to destroy or sell off gear. This makes even less sense in a game set in the Wizarding World, where literal “bigger on the inside” technology exists
The merlin trials give you more slots, idk why this is a complaint. I think I've been full twice and I'm the type of player that goes for every chest in a cave or area, but other than that is not an issue if you pay attention to how the game works and not just run through the main quest line. also why do you need so much stuff? after doing a few dozen merlin trials you can get up to 40 slots... the gear stays in your collection inventory permanently, so you can legit sell off everything every time you see a merchant or are in Hogsmeade.
I will also add: In a castle full of no cliping ghosts, not one of them have ever found the Map Room, the Scriptorium of Slytherin or the Chamber of Secrets, the Room of Necessity is basically a pocket Dimension so that is understandable.
If I recall the lore correctly,The basilisk was put in hybernation inside the statue for centuries, so no risk of eye contact, but as you say: in theory.
If I can recall, in the books it is stated that a ghost can only go to places where they have been when they were alive. So if a dead person has never been to the chamber of secrets or the map chamber, they can't go there.
i didnt like the fact that there was no competition between the houses. everyone was super nice and even after getting and using all the forbidden spells no one battered an eyelid. would have been pretty cool if dementors made an appearance for using those spells and you got to fight them. my character could of murdered everyone and no one would have cared..
I'd have settled for the hourglasse getting more points in them. You don't need an actual mechanic with deductions and additions just a new graphic for each season change so summer (start) they're mostly empty and by spring (end) they're largely full.
Sorry super late (I’m on switch so I think it just came out) but I’ve heard different houses have 1 different side quest. If you chooose bring a hufflepuff, you get to go to Azkaban. Still disappointed we don’t get a patronus and have more dementor Run-ins
The difference between Harry's vision and Ominus' blindness is most likely the reason why they have their issues. We know they can't just magic someone's brain back (if they could there wouldn't be..St.Mungos...I think that's what it's called). Harry's problem, like my own, is it's an issue with the eye itself, whereas Ominus' is most likely either in the brain itself, the nerves leading to the brain, and possibly an issue with the eyes as well. Or I could be wrong and talking out my ass, it's how it made sense to me.
@@paulolukeny5736 Yeah, but you have to keep in mind that Harry Potter is very much a 'soft magic' system, which means...'because a wizard did it' is the only explanation you'll get. There aren't really any 'rules', and even the 'rules' you are given can, and almost certainly will, be broken at some point because 'fuck you, that's why'. It's why I've very much moved away from soft magic as being my go-to enjoyment. Soft magic can be fun an entertaining in short term, but as soon as you start thinking about them, they usually tend to fall about with holes everywhere.
Yes, you are right. Harry's vision problem is different from Ominis' blindness. Harry's vision problem even can be improved with our tech, which we called it as lasik. While blindness, some can be fixed and some cannot. In Ominis' case, it cannot be fixed because it is the result of inbreeding in his family so it is part of the flaw in his DNA. Seems some people forgot that Ominis' family practice incest which causing inbreeding.
3:52 Or ANY explanation of who our characters are, not a single bit. We're just a nobody who is ignored for 5 years yet somehow manage to beat any and all magical challenges that comes our way. I feel like this is partially explained if you find the book and quill lore collectible in the grandmaster's study, which says the book doesn't allow people to enter Hogwarts if their magical potential isn't met, that still doesn't explain anything since by the time we're halfway through the game, we're beating up bosses without breaking a sweat (Or once in my case accidentally, knew an infamous foe was in the room but decided to take out a group of fodder first, caught the boss in the blast and took her down without knowing until I found her slumped on the ground and my boss counter up one tick).
We start in 5th year because of ancient magic Isidora and Rookwood were both the same, it isn't explained why that happens though I agree. The dev's wanted to start us at an older age but they didn't justify it well.
I completely agree. I was feeling something odd about it, the map was gorgeous, but I never felt connected to any character I came across. I had more connection to my Skyrim Thrall than my classmates
Although I enjoyed the game this video addresses my biggest complaint with it. You spend 90% of the time outside of the school exploring and fighting enemies that it really takes away the hogwarts student aspect of the game I was so pumped for. Hogwarts Legacy really should’ve taken notes from Bully. Bully is great example of a perfect dynamic between combat/exploration and being in the shoes of a student. Even the whole concept of being a fifth year student was just meh for me. I would’ve loved to have been a first year getting on a boat with my new wand from diagon and getting sorted into my house. Still, I enjoyed the game but imo it really missed out on a lot of opportunities and potential to show a genuine hogwarts experience
As a perpetually broke father of four, I depend on you and Gaming Wins to properly enjoy all these games I will never have the time or money to play. Keep up the great work. 👍
This video makes the most accurate points on how much the game is lacking, while they definitely did some amazing things with the game that i really loved, the main story, the side missions and the characters are not very good. I hate how our protagonist is a big empty husk. They should have dropped the unnecessary "choose your own dialog' system (choices don't matter anyways) and just have a fix dialog and story for our character...
16:59 The way Sebastian says that no spell would reverse it implies that they do have spells to cure blindness but they weren't working in Ominus' case. Likely whatever caused his blindness is some sort of curse similar to what Anne has and therefore it needs something very specific to fix it.
@@Phanthief95 maybe not, but that my just be Jk Rowling's terrible worldbuilding. We are told specifically that Harry doesn't need glasses while under Polyjuice potion and human transfiguration is a complex but achievable thing that can be done. The game was more than willing to expand the universe where it needed to so it isn't that big of a stretch.
It’s because he’s inbred. The Gaunts are one of the few pure-blood families that openly practice incest. The Blacks are another. Blindness and mental instability are common symptoms of inbreeding, both of which the Gaunts have.
120: where is everyone during the night!? 121: how many poachers can you have per square mile!? Are the only career options a merchant, a professor or a poacher? 122: how can a magical castle be so dull and empty? :( It's like looking at a beautiful but soulless AI-generated picture of Hogwarts. 123: after several months I didn't even remember Fig died. I was so perfectly disconnected from the flat and badly written characters and stakes of this game, I sent Sebastian to Azkaban with not even a flinch - I was absolutely indifferent to all this.
Harry Potter is a franchise about a school with hundreds or even thousands of teenage students sleeping in buildings right near each other for years and not even ONE girl shows up pregnant. That's more unbelievable than all the magic put together.
not to mention the downright disgusting insult to blood purity from HP Lovecraft. Memorius deletus!!! srsly, britian needs to kill rowling and the rest of the cancerous nobility.
16:10 No you don't. Professor Weasley had a room in mind and entered it with you. He then is explaining that if you concentrate you can change the rooms style. This is consistent with the lore.
33:25 I think this was the point the devs ran out of time and rushed the story. It's why Lodgok brought the journal and sheepishly gives it to Ranrok after repeatedly saying he wanted to stand up to him. It was purely to jumpstart the climax. It's also probably why the Rookwood and Ranrok fights feel rushed. You'd think the game would let the player decide at least one of their fates, but no. Rookwood dies in a spell clash that was so unsatisfying I didn't think he was killed until the mission summary said he was. Ranrok's boss is a little better, but I don't like it when an enemy you've been struggling against all game dies the second their HP hits 0.
I also don’t think that HP is marketed towards chidren anymore, I think it wants to appeal to all of the kids who grew up with the franchise in the early 2000s, who are now adults. I mean, smart move and I like it, but it wasn’t executed that well in my opinion
11:15 The player knows because they have been to central hall which is just off where the library is. While the player hasn't necessarily been inside the library, as to know what part of it contains the restricted section, it is completely believable that they could figure it out based on the fact that part of the map has a gate cutting it off and Sebastian tells the player about the restricted section earlier.
Maybe, but why not have the player character point out the spot to Fig and then have him provide the information? He has been your guide so far it seems.
The sin with Isidora's tryptich isn't completely correct. While yeah, hers would have been a lot harder to find generally speaking, the idea was that it would allow her portrait to "travel" onto the landscape so she/her portrait would be able to teach and instruct the next user of ancient magic. However, her portrait got destroyed by Rookwood during the attack on Feldcroft, which is why she couldn't appear once the tryptich had been reassembled.
That's not why, There's a side quest where you can destroy one painting their belongs to an entity that lives in several paintings. Destroying the painting did not destroy the entity regretfully. It's the only time the game ever references the fact that killing curse destroys someone's soul. Seriously the only time that part is referenced even during the major narrative moment it's used in the modern time is in ecidore's death to justify her painting being empty.
Actually he is right (thought not completely) and it’s directly referenced by the Harry Potter books. In one of the books a portrait person gets damaged and then hides in another completely unrelated portrait because she is ashamed of her disfigured look. So if Isadora‘s portrayal was in the painting while it got destroyed she is gone.
'I recall Hermione soffering to fix Harry Potter's vision with a simple spell once' uh, whut? that never happened. neither in the books, nor in the movies :D
Sebastian quest is a clear example of a moral mechanic they didnt bother to add because is a simple open world with no repercussions. Also Naty recovered and can walk in the schools ending in my hufflepuf run
I'm sure they all had cuts, but Sebastian's questline felt like it had the biggest holes. As Dart said, you don't bring him up with the Keepers. I even thought he would attack you during the final quest if you turned him into the authorities as payback and to get the emotion magic. Even his relationship with his Uncle felt underdeveloped. The man was so against Sebastian helping Anne in any way, I thought you'd learn why. I assumed it would have something to do with his falling out with the other Aurors, but he's dead so the player will never know. Maybe it's setting something up like how Dragon Age lets you carry your choices across sequels?
One thing that is really funny.. Prof. Weasley gave you the guide to complete within the school year. And one of the objectives in that book is to kill 100 Dark Wizards. (among other such things) The Hogwarts universe is really not good at book and consistency.. especially if you take a closer look... Yet still its incredibly fun and amazing.
105 - to be fair, she clarifies that she is fine physically, and that it was her mother who insisted she remains in the med bay or whatever it's called
Since you haven't mentioned it I suspect you haven't even seen the fantastic "room-mechanics" in the game. Where you can go into a picture, a hidden door in a wall or that one house in Hogsmeade that looks different every time and is bigger on the inside. You also could not do the horrordungeon if you didnt play this on PS5. And that quest is amazing and has the best mindtricks I ever saw in a game.
One of my nitpicket is how bad the voice options where if you did not go standard. I made a girl student, but didn't like her voice so I lower it by one notch (out of the 5 options). Her voice felt auto-tuned and robotic a quarter of the time. This is not that bad. But it really doesn't help the already stitled delivery. This game is not the worst game ever. I did it enjoy it, but it IS probably the game with the most lazy or small choices that pad the game, ruin quality of life, ruin the pacing or betray the ludonarrative harmony of the game. Having the demiguises collectaton linked to the alohomora progreession was so stupid because you need to go at it in 3 phases if you want to actually want to unlock the three levels of alohomora (which is required for loot). And learning the Dark Arts as a do-gooder Hufflepuff felt so dirty. But there were no other options for me except be much weaker in comparison.
they should’ve added an option to spare rookwood or like kill solomon yourself (even though this might ruin the end of the storyline) etc. that would’ve been very cool imo
The thing that weirds me the most is that aren't told anything about our own history. Why did we start as 5th Years, are we pure bloods, what family did we come from, what about our family, why are we this powerful. And ofc i would love to ride dragons (im in playstation so cant play the mod), its a disgrace that we cant have a pet owl. And i think a curfew would make it much more "school realistic"(ofc with the ability to change it off if we wanna go explore)
It's just your typical video game Mary Sue protagonist who's special, and gets to have a special power nobody else has. Their background's left vague as possible so you can make them whoever you want. Change the terminology a little and you'd be talking about the MC of Skyrim.
@@starofjustice1 lol I haven't thought about it in a way of they left it vague so we can imagine what we want. Sounds nice but still.. before the game was out I had a theory that we can see thestrals because of a trauma we had as kids where our parents died or something and we were sent to a muggle family and somehow Hogwarts didn't manage to find us and then they finally found us at the age of fifth years (and maybe we were from a lost bloodline like Merlin or smth and that's the reason we're so powerful, and that's one of the side quests which leads us to reveal the truth)
7:50 The game having Quidditch could work. After all, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup was a fun game where you could play all the roles, not just being a seeker, and Hogwarts legacy could have a more advanced version of it as DLC.
It could but your talking about essentailly developing an entire second game in addition to the main game. Seeker, Keeper, Bludger and Chaser (four positions) with different mechanics for each plus AI for the other positions in four teams with multiple matches. Its a lot of work in programming. Quidditch world cup for example is an entire game in its own right.
@@liamwarner5749 Yeah, I understand it is difficult and something they likely won´t bother doing, but one can always dream. :) And it´s not like they lack money.
Just a thought if Goblin's belief is that the creator of an item is the rightful owner does that extend to its contents, as Ranrok is claiming the content of the craftsmanship of his father and the contents there within, does that mean the goblins who made the vaults at Gringotts own all the stored possessions. (This going by fictional goblin logic) that makes Gringotts more of a racket(or pawn shop) than a legitimate bank In other words The fictional magic bank makes f***ing no sense
In regards to the Sin for Fig would be ready by the next day: He was most likely given a task that would take a few days at least, thus he isnt available, and the player would have to risk trouble
I believe it was explained that he had to go to the British Ministry of Magic, itself and explain what happened with Osric in more detail to the British *Minister* of Magic.
am I the only one who finds it weird that this game is set close to a century before the books has a huge amount non-european characters yet the books have a very small amount both in and out of Hogwarts, are they implying Dumbledore or his predecessor or the ministry did something to change that because otherwise, it comes off very weird, especially when given the historical setting you'd expect much less of to be present.
Since Britain conquered a quarter of the world at the time I would think they had a very diverse set of students at Hogwarts. Especially since the Wizarding World would have banded together over borders and culture. I assume much of the later diversity in Harry's time was just assumed and not specifically mentioned in the books.
It is explained why protag starts as a fifth year, because other Mary Sue "Keepers" also started as fifth years. It's dubious who makes this decision, Black has no clue for sure.
I’d somehow forgotten that Ominis was blind since he is able to follow me for miles in one mission. It seems his blindness was only a plot device to explain why he won’t use dark magic
@@elected0nes741Theres multiple people witu disabilities in Harry Potter. More often than not they use magic to assist them as Ominis does throughout the game. Every time you see him just walking around he has his wand pointing up. And there were supposed to be some blind kids in the books, but it got cut. Even Harry himself had vision problems and Hermione offered to fix it. One minute y'all are complaining about the game being woke then the next another group of people are telling people to boycott the game because it isn't inclusive enough and to boycott JK Rowling. It can't be both lmao. All y'all do is complain.
@@AssassinKillua15 Just to clarify, I have zero problems with people who have disabilities. In fact, I have more sympathy towards those with all sorts of impairments than you would know because you don't know me. There's nothing wrong with that, I'm just saying it because it's true, you don't know me and I honestly don't hold that against you. But in *my opinion,* I think most understand the real reasons why certain people get certain roles in the entertainment industry today, and it has almost if not *ZERO* to do with their abilities or qualifications! When quality and reality is ignored for the sake of slapping ❝𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚❞ into something, I tend to get rather disgusted with it, and I'll *NEVER* apologize for that! The whole thing has become so toxic and divisive that it's destroying society as a whole, and it *WILL* eventually lead to this world's complete destruction! 🙄
@@elected0nes741 its an animated character. So what does it have to do with qualifications or with someone's abilities? Its not a real person. It's not even live action. @@AssassinKillua15 I was talking about the entertainment industry as a whole, but I totally understand why you missed what I was getting at. Let me ask you something, why make a character in a video game blind??? Did his blindness have any impact on the game what-so-ever??? Was there any measurable benefit to him being blind??? What was the real purpose of a completely fictional character in a video game that was never in or even mentioned in any of the Harry Potter movies or books??? You see, I know why they did it, and that's exactly why I take issue with it. As far as I'm concerned, the entire entertainment industry can take their DEI BS and shove where the sun doesn't shine!!! Oh, and I'm perfectly happy that J. K. Rowling is making money from this game, good for her! 😉👍
The moment you said 'My Immortal' I made an audible grown and hated my brain for remembering that trash. Then I felt the clod grip of death and getting old....5 sins for that one.
One thing that bothered me a lot: SOUND STAGE. EVERY WORD OF DIALOG is spoken about 1 cm away from the microphone with a warm EQ on it, with complete disregard to the environment. In a massive hall? Outside? In a closet? It all sounds exactly the same. Good example is 13:15. We're outside, yet the spoken words might as well be an audio book. It feels slapped onto the ambient noise.
Quidditch isn't hard to implement in a game in a fun way. They literally did it years ago with the game "Quidditch World Cup". They could just put in a trimmed down version of that, the gameplay with updated graphics would be awesome to play.
There was a side quest I refused to do because the giver would just sit there going “if only someone could help me with this grave problem” or sumthin like that and it pissed me off so much I let her suffer
Nice list, but it's not complete by any means as others have pointed out already. A few I can add: 1) MC can be female, but they'll still send the male professor Fig to pick her up all alone in 1890, a time when such thing would be not done. 2) At the start of the Merlin trials, you learn about a lesbian marriage. In 1890 ? 3) The innkeeper is a former student who's transgender. It seems magic was able to give her the body she wanted, but not the voice ? While the student impersonating the headmaster with the potion does get the voice right ?
You forgot that the entire crux of this story is centered entirely around Isidora's father being so distraught that his son died, that he basically went catatonic from the grief and Isidora only wants to learn how to make him happy again. His son, who was seemingly BORN weak and frail and looked like he'd die at any moment already. I know he lost his child, that's awful, but there's such a thing as coping. Especially in this era losing a child has to be at least somewhat expected, especially if they're born frail. That's just a part of life. It really doesn't make that much sense while he STILL had his daughter in good health (their mother is never mentioned once I think) he's so broken up over his on the edge of death son dying he COMPLETELY forgets about her and refuses to even speak to her. He never processes his grief, he never talks to his daughter, he never remarried after his wife presumably died presumably IN CHILDBIRTH going just by what's most likely. Instead he just becomes a walking vegetable, COMPLETELY unresponsive. How does this make ANY sense? People back then were a LOT sturdier than current year, they wouldn't fall apart at a SINGLE death in the family, especially when that death is CLEARLY going to be the first to die the second things aren't going so well. Oh a MASSIVE extended drought it took LITERAL MAGIC to end? Yeah that'll do it. Honestly it's a miracle already the kid survived to the END of the drought. If he died after they fixed the area, it MUST have been from whatever condition, disease or something that he had. So he HAD to have expected and emotionally braced himself for it. Nope. He's just a massive pussy I guess, the child he knew was always going to die young died young and it just completely shattered his psyche. They treat everyone in this game taking place in, what is it the 19th CENTURY? Like they're from modern times, and not just from the incredibly racially diverse European school, but how they talk and act as well. This story really could, and probably should, have taken place in present day. To be clear, I DO still enjoy this game, and I would support a sequel being made. However there are some STARK flaws and I'd also expect a sequel to fix ALL of them, because they are ALL easily fixed.
6:39 - that is a very good point: In Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire for example, not only do they reference the fact that Hogwart's ISN'T the only wizarding school to attend, several of the competitors are from other schools, just as noteable in their respective countries as Hogwart's is. * I would further ask, how did the goblin get hired in the first place if he was just going to turn around and rob X random patron's (admittedly potentially priceless) "riches" Antisemitism debate aside, most financial institutions tend to frown on that just a bit. [The goblin uprising might make sense - though there was NOTHING in the books to mark them anything like house elves that I recall; so I'd tend to think they're conflating the two for a message that doesn't suit the race itself - but I would have had someone ELSE rob the bank and get the goblins caught up in it. So that they would in fact be blameless but be by incorrect inference, accomplices. That would also give the goblins dual reason for a justifiable grievance] ** I guess maybe I'm one of those that likes to use big words...
Well Gringotts Wizarding Bank was founded by Goblins and Hagrid did said it was the only wizard bank, of course it could mean the only one in England but Goblins in the Wizardly World are also know from being metalsmiths, in fact they minted the Wizarding currency that makes the whole "Goblins believe the creator of a item is its rightful owner" completely idiotic as every single Galleon, Sickle and Knut would belong to the the goblin who minted it and they would know because each coin was stamped with a serial number identifying him. I think Goblins in the Wizardly world were more as the fey tolktales and not as the modern Tolkien influences, also the Goblin Banker in the game seem to been forced by Ranrok to take him to the Vault, there is a hint some of the Goblin Bank Guards were under his magical control to keep a eye on Vault 12, not they were part of his rebellion.
A lot of the 'never explained' things are alluded to in this game through fieldpages or whatsit, which means to get the full picture you need to read a lot of stuff you'd probably rather skip to go to the next thing. For example, you were admitted as a 5th year because the magical book that keeps track of potential students only thought you had enough magic potential at the age of 15. The player character might've been considered a squib before all that. But yeah, it's not something that is clearly explained at all and you also don't really act like it either
Damn that's interesting! I used to watch all videos explaining HP lore and got some original books, but never had come across this piece of Info! Why wasn't it explained in the game though?
@@rchaelk2319 The game's story has quite a few holes in it, I think Sebastion's side story got the worst of it, how we were ignored for several years despite having unique magical abilities is likely another hole the writers forgot to fill in. Who knows, maybe we'll get some answers in DLCs, we still got the 6th and 7th year to go through.
The one that I find the most nonsensical, and not just limited to the game per se but the entire franchise, is how supposedly these three curses are absolutely immoral and illegal and should never be used... But on the other hand using any other spell that can arguably be more gruesome is totally fine? Take Imperio: Seems like a very useful spell to use when your toddler refuses to eat their vegetables, or to prevent your dog from chewing on the couch. Meanwhile even Avada Kedavra, while obvious why that would be illegal, at the very least it seems more compassionate to use a swift instakill on an enemy, than to use things like bombarda and the likes, in which you can slowly burn, blow up, slice them and so much more, until eventually they succumb to it.
They're immoral, illegal and can never be used because those curses can't be reversed. Many of the spells in the Wizarding World have counter-spells that can undo the effects of a certain spell, charm, jinx or curse. You can't undo the effects of the Unforgivables, though.
4:45 that's not what's happening here. Fig wanted to keep the key his wife died for and didn't know it was a portkey he was going to aparate them both but the portkey did it first that's why he grabs player's hand.
11:08 - you forgot how he says ‘can’t drink butter beer forever’ and leaves the inn. Yet literally seconds after, you leave the inn to go back to hogwarts with no consequence whatsoever or anyone trying to catch you on the way back lol.
There were a couple of moments I got some hope the story would actually become interesting and nuanced. But then it remembered it's a Harry Potter game and avada kedavra'd it. Don't get me wrong, I really love Harry Potter. But as I get older I realize it has way more to do with the fantastical world and broader concepts than anything to do with the plot and characters on a micro level. The idea of the wizarding world and it's version of magic is awesome but the actual social dynamics of the stories themselves are pretty bad and unsettling. It's also a world where the good is always the established order and the bad is anyone who questions that authority; regardless of that authority's actual morality. So it has to make potentially interesting and morally uncertain things suddenly clearly bad or good to maintain that; like Isidora going from having a point to suddenly unhinged or in the books for slave elves to claim they like being slaves. There is no nuance allowed bc then you may feel bad about the fun magic stuff. I'd love to see a HP story that actually tackles the uncomfortable aspects of their universe but that will never happen; it be too risky. And this game is emblematic of that, not just in its writing. The world is beautiful and you get to do all the Harry Potter things you always wanted to, but play long enough and you realize there's no depth; it's just another open world game in every basic aspect.
What? The ministry is bad in the sixth book and Voldemort becomes the established order in the 7th. The Daily Prophet, the mainstream news outlet, is frequently messed up.
I found it a little sad you glossed over the one mission with Amit where the goblin tells you that you can't be seen, and then the mission proceeds to make you do forced combat sections multiple times without there being a chance of pulling off stealth, and also the deathly hallows mission fucking sucked. "Oh sick, I got the Elder Wand, time to slam the fucking R2 button for 13 minutes and pretend I feel powerful since it took away all my spells and I do not damage" I was legit like 10 levels overleveled but because the game scales to you, and it will force enemies to be a higher level than you sometimes even if the mission is nowhere near you, it just ends up with trolls that take like 6 minutes to kill EACH and it throws like 5 AT YOU OH MY GOD
The beggining of this video can ben answered in a simple way: Every open world rpg game with character creation makes the character bland and an all powerful entity that kills everyone in sight, that's the very concept of an open world game wirth character creation.
19:43 Ranrok is a very public figure for goblins but is not as well known to wizards. Them seeking out a goblin who is unlikely to be working with Rankrok is completely reasonable. Serona has also shown that she is against Rookwood who is working with Ranrok. So how is them trying to reach out to a potential goblin ally a sin. Is your problem that the goblin happens to be helpful? Would you prefer the game send you on a bunch of quests that don't pan out first before finding a lead that does?
To be fair that on the picking houses point, pretty sure originally it was largely based on your own choice which kinda makes the houses even more pointless personality wise
I think the explanation of the Time Turners thing is the self-consistency principle aka predestination paradox, basically time travelers can't change the past to affect the future because everything they do already happened so everything they try was actually things that caused the future they're trying to change. For an example refer to Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey: the antagonist tries to change the future by ruining the past for Bill & Ted (killing them, etc.) but all those things he did was what actually resulted in them becoming legendary superstars in the first place.
That would have been an acceptable explanation were it not of the mention of time turners being banned as a result of wizards killing their past selves. The time turners are in fact the perfect example of how the Wayside School-style humour of the early books doesn't fit in a setting that takes itself seriously.
Honestly this is the closest i'll get to the game, and honestly hearing your comments made me really glad I chose to stay away the game just does not sound very good to me
My favorite thing in this game was how it tried to make a moral argument out of "do you want to talk about what it means to decide who lives or dies or do you want instakill upgradable to be able to oneshot hoards of enemies"
If anything excites me about this game, it is exploring Hogwarts. It is a shame that this special wand didn't have better usage. The trouble are copy and paste side quests, Merlin's trials demiguise statues, field guide pages, and lack of choices that actually impact the story. There are virtually no consequences for using an unforgivable spell. The main story isn't that engaging. Sebastian's questline also plays it safe. No matter what dialogue option we choose, the result is the same. This game is overrated, unfortunately. It's annoying how 95% of the game takes us out of Hogwarts and into random countryside. Forbidden Forest should have more dangers. Main narrative isn't that exciting either.
He probably was contacted at the age of 11. Students, however, are not obliged to go to Hogwarts. Parents may simply elect to educate their child at home.
I do wish certain spells were none lethal considering how they make you so kind of a char. Is it so hard for 0 hp enemies to stand make a threat before disapparenting(?) What ever that wizard teleport is? Trolls could run away before fading out. Most enemies look the same so they could be different or the same person.
Sebastian's uncle worked for the ministry, yes he was an auror but there was another section of the ministry called "cursebreakers" that had been around for centuries already, and yet he is standing there saying "nothing breaks a curse" when he has likely in the past met at least one curse breaker
"You can put a murder clause in your bank vault contract?" You can do anything in a bank contract if you give the bank enough money. It is kinda their thing. Unfortunately...
Nice. Anyway..."

A bit of a comment I posted in another video:
If Isadora was right about one thing, it's that it is better to share and study this kind of magic.
@@willropa4226 I was surprised they had the one keeper use the unforgivable curse the worst one and they just don't say anything
The highlight triple A aspect is the location. Inside is inspired art and outside looks like kinkade painting.

To save his sister.
There was no need for a unforgivable.
Seriously, just disarm it or levitate it like you do through the whole game.
It was made for the drama, same way that you normally would dodge that giant rock falling on you in the last mission, or Harlow's Crucio. Instead they always made your character stunned in that moment, needed to be saved by someone.
Who cares how he stopped that vicious goblin the point is his uncle is a spineless cuck who'd let a family member die just to stay within the law
@@daigneauray7087 Yeah. I was surprised when Rookwood died. I was expecting the game to give you the option to spare him.
The end story was such a huge disappointment.
Sure, it isn't shown in cutscenes much (if at all), but the explanation is there.
you can also see him freely walking through the castle sometimes while you’re not on a quest or in a cutscene, he always has his wand up pointed for it to guide him
And the fact Ominis's blindness is due to the in family breeding to keep the bloodline pure
I thought the memory of Isodora "fixing" her father was missing the MOST important part.
How it actually affected him...dude went from bad to worse.
Just like the real world.
to be fair that's also how most of the problems came to be in Harry Potter, and just like with the books its up to some random kid who is apparently special to take care of these problems because the magic equivalent to the police don't actually care
Welcome to Britain! :D
Some seem to not have been paying attention as even a character in this game says she can do magic without a wand.
Is this lore or a headcanon?
@@martijnvangammeren1868 so it looks like someone doesn't like to read comprehensively, or doesn't know what a catalyst is, what I said has DIRECT correlation to the character not using a wand.

Actually, before trains existed there was no official mean of transportation to Hogwarts. Students got there in anyway they wanted.

First, yes no one would play a Persona / bully like Harry Potter game.
It really doesn't take long to go to a vendor and sell off gear.

Nearly Headless Nick *was* petrified by Basilisk, so at least Chamber of Secrets is safe from discovery, in theory.
If I recall the lore correctly,The basilisk was put in hybernation inside the statue for centuries, so no risk of eye contact, but as you say: in theory.

@@mikerada2773 i mean...Peeves got confined in hogwarts through wards (he is not native of hogwarts)

i didnt like the fact that there was no competition between the houses. everyone was super nice and even after getting and using all the forbidden spells no one battered an eyelid. would have been pretty cool if dementors made an appearance for using those spells and you got to fight them. my character could of murdered everyone and no one would have cared..
I'd have settled for the hourglasse getting more points in them. You don't need an actual mechanic with deductions and additions just a new graphic for each season change so summer (start) they're mostly empty and by spring (end) they're largely full.

Your explanation makes sense but I would but i am still not "satisfied", because it's never explained anywhere and everything is just so ambiguous.
@@paulolukeny5736 Yeah, but you have to keep in mind that Harry Potter is very much a 'soft magic' system, which means...'because a wizard did it' is the only explanation you'll get.

"You can put a murder clause in your bank vault contract" sounds like bank of America to me
33:25 I think this was the point the devs ran out of time and rushed the story.
10:40 But they DID see them! Thats why Rookwood follows you to the three broomsticks! Wich you ALSO SIN in the VERY NEXT SCENE!
Casting Crucio on training dummy in Herbology class was sure awkward!

Sounds nice but still.. before the game was out I had a theory that we can see thestrals because of a trauma we had as kids where our parents died or something and we were sent to a muggle family and somehow Hogwarts didn't manage to find us and then they finally found us at the age of fifth years (and maybe we were from a lost bloodline like Merlin or smth and that's the reason we're so powerful, and that's one of the side quests which leads us to reveal the truth)
I think it's a cool theory that could've been awesome

7:50 The game having Quidditch could work. After all, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup was a fun game where you could play all the roles, not just being a seeker, and Hogwarts legacy could have a more advanced version of it as DLC.
No. Hogwarts Legacy cannot have Quidditch. Because it will not make it to weaker console like PS4 or Switch
@@alyoshamikhaylov7651 Well one can always hope.....

19:51 There’s something about Dartigan being concerned about missing classes in a school that’s just so amusing 😂
I'm sure a lot of people were thinking this was going to be like Bully.
Exactly. Skipping class isn't uncommon or unheard of. Apparently, Dartigan has never actually been to school before.
I think the point is, no matter the story, there's no consequences for children or students missing classes to go on missions or fetch quests...
Just a thought if Goblin's belief is that the creator of an item is the rightful owner does that extend to its contents, as Ranrok is claiming the content of the craftsmanship of his father and the contents there within, does that mean the goblins who made the vaults at Gringotts own all the stored possessions. (This going by fictional goblin logic) that makes Gringotts more of a racket(or pawn shop) than a legitimate bank
In other words
The fictional magic bank makes f***ing no sense
Exactly
The time-turner, as I see, is the ONLY inconsistence in the books. She realized that and got rid of them in the fifth book.

The wizardry culture doesn’t follow the same race and relationship rules, as the Muggle world
That's what I said
No, you're racist for even bringing that up.
Just forced diversity.

Even Harry himself had vision problems and Hermione offered to fix it.

So true did he mention all the different races lolol
Diversity and inclusion wouldn’t exist back then at all. It’s stupid af. Stupid af in this day and age too with all the issues it’s caused irl.
@@drakron Very cool, and thanks for the reference. : )

Say what you will about the franchise and the houses, Dartigan being a ravenclaw is very on brand.
@@rchaelk2319Well like OG wrote it is in the game but only through the field guide pages. Good old environmental story telling.
2:31 "After school violence" Sounds like a cool band name. Imma use that, lol.
From now on I will only accept criticism of a game If it's presented In format like this 😂😂. Absolute gold
You haven't until now?!
The Anne being on a period bit was just hilarious 😂
! This is perfectly said. I had extremely high hopes and part of me feels like this game was extremely underbaked besides world design
