Budget friendly chili mac = Knockoff of the blue box, likely out of date, and a can of some kind of chili you never saw in a store, all acquired via the local food bank. Mmmm.... :P
Looks yummy!! If you know how to make catfish stew please do a video on that one day because I've been searching for years for a good one😭. Thanks for your videos AB.
Fr OG, I didn’t grow up with parents so I never had someone to teach me how to cook and watching your videos and owning your cook book, I’ve learned so much from you within the last year than I have the 36 years I’ve been on this earth 🙏🏼 appreciate you!!!
Hey there, best of luck with your cooking. I've learned a lot from this guy as well. Also check out America's Test Kitchen for techniques, reviews and why certain things work. Cheers.
@@purleybakerThat's what I appreciate. I want someone to show me how to cook hearty tasty meals that I'm actually likely to make. I might watch other channels where they make more complicated recipes that are certainly nice to look at, but I know that I'm not going to spend 2 hours cooking it myself.
You are incredible man. When it comes to cooking vids on UA-cam there’s usually a lot of the chefs assuming people know what they’re doing. I love the way you explain stuff and present it all in layman terms and drop in good tips…you’re teaching, not showing. It’s amazing and this should be prime time content. Keep doing you and it will happen, don’t switch up nothing about the way you be 👊🏻
There aren't many inexpensive things in the grocery store anymore, but black beans, canned tomatoes, pasta, store brand stock are still pretty inexpensive, and ground beef or turkey can always be found on sale, so I always have those things on hand. As well as onions, carrots, and potatoes. Its amazing how creative I can get with those basic ingredients. It's only my daughter and I, so this will make a hearty meal to eat right away, plus a meal for the freezer.
Sad but true. Black beans have more antioxidants than wild blue berries and they are a good source of protein and fiber. They are also a good source of magnesium, which is lacking in most people's diets. Meat is not a good source of magnesium, plant proteins like beans, nuts, and seeds are though. Beans are mentioned in the bible.
@@Terri_MacKayBlack beans are super foods, not just cheap protein. They try to have you focus on blue berries because they cost more and the store can make more money. Red beans and black beans have the most antioxidants, it's due to their darker color they contain something called anthycyanins. My wife is a registered nurse, and she says everyone of her patients is deficient in magnesium, except for latinos, who are known to eat a lot of beans. Magnesium is known as an anti-aging vitamin, it helps you live longer, that's why Asians who eat tofu and Mexicans are the 2 longest living demographics.
@@adim00lah That's very interesting. I'll make sure that I continue to make them a regular part of my diet. It's nice to know that one of my favourite foods is so good for me. 😊

I was hungry for this, and you had to go and mention goulash! Gahh, y'all gonna get me fat (ter). Thanks for bringing it up. I'll be eating both this week now.
I just subscribed. Why? I love your voice, easygoing manner, and no fast talking while you are explaining the steps. One pan!!! That is beautiful and very convenient (as I hate to wash multiple pots and pans), sad dishwasher both electric and me :). I love the one can of less sodium beans and mix it with a regular. Last but not least, it looks fantastic and I will be making it within the next few days.
Tganks for sharing. Just cooked this tonight. I did add a red bell pepper, jalapeño, and teaspoon of cayenne. I had to bump up the salt quite a but likely because i bought low sodium versions of all ingredients. Overall its a quick, cheap, easy dinner for a family. Takes me back to childhood.
Another winner AB! I've been making almost the same thing for decades and we call it "Hoosier Chili". I use beef broth rather than chicken, and I drain the "metallic" taste liquid from the diced tomatoes and I use Busch brand regular chili beans. Also throw in a can of Rotel. Yeah, a slab of corn bread made with a can of creamed corn and a shot of vanilla. Dam at stuffs good!
Brother, your videos and recipes are exactly what I need to learn how to up my cooking skills on my challenging budget. You make everything crystal clear, and boost my confidence that I can do this. You are like my cool resident expert chef and professor of good food. Thank you very much! All the best to you!
Update … The sour cream really makes this dish 👍🏻Another great and easy recipe Chef. I was wondering what to do with my leftover tomatoes and black beans from the enchilada recipe. And here you are with an answer. I did doctor it a little. I usually use a can of spiced chili beans in my recipe and homemade broth. Other than that it was all your recipe. Turned out fantastic. Hubby loved it too. Thanks again. You’re such a great teacher 👍🏻❣️
AB you need a cooking show. I love following your recipes and when I tell you EVERYTHING I MEAN EVERYTHING I HAVE COOKED FOLLOWING YOU HAVE BEEN FIRE!!!
Just made this tonight for the family. Could not be easier, and it DEFINITELY could not be more delicious. Tasted it as I got done and I just had to say, "you know that tastes right!" Thanks Chef AB!
Happy that this got recommended to me. Just simple, honest food exactly as it should be. I think one or another of the recipes will definitely be cooked . Greetings from Germany
1st Time I had Chili Mac was at Camp Del mar's chow hall at Camp Pendleton in the Mid 80's. It was so popular in all the Military chow halls that it also became an MRE main meal in 1988. Chili Mac done right is the best. Believe it or not the Chili Mac I had in the chow hall was the best I have had ever. I will try your recipe Hopefully it comes close to the flavor I remember and I'll give you an update. 👍
You're a damn fine cook, AB. But you may add a whole new audience of people looking for budget friendly, easy to make meals. I think you're on to something.

For anyone needing the measurements while watching this... 1 pound ground beef 1 cup chopped onion 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder 2 teaspoons ground cumin 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper 3 8 oz cans tomato sauce 2 15 oz cans black beans (or pinto beans), drained 1 14.5 oz can petite diced tomatoes, undrained 1 32 oz chicken broth 3 cups small macaroni noodles 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese, plus more for garnish
I honestly these days just add 2 packs of ole el Paso seasoning mix. I like these as I do not have to have so many spices that I only use once/twice a month. Love this. I also add some green pepper to this for some green:) This is delicious!
Another fantastic recipe. Time to make this over the weekend. Keep it up. Love the channel...this is the only channel you need here to eat good and simple.
Thank you so much for this wonderful meal! I just subscribed to your UA-cam page and so far all of your recipes that I have made were great!!! Again, thank you for making my dinner time so easy!
