  • Twitchbaits and Jerkbaits are similar, yet different, and deadly on speckled trout. Still, there are instances where one type will out perform the other. In this video I will walk you through such a day.
These baits are well known and loved by anglers, but so much confusion exists around the names the baits carry. Could we find a better system to name them?
I filmed a deep-dive into jerkbaits and twitchbaits which provides a more detailed look into these baits. Below is the link to that video:

The “industry” should watch this and learn.
As I did. You just helped/clarified my fishing lingo. And knowledge.
    This is perfect

Jared banks are either square or rounding the square ones are considered which base because they take very little action to impart action into the bait where is with the rip bait it's more because it's more rounded and it has a wider wobble and it takes more action to impart action into the debate more of a rip you got to hit it harder than you do these new twitch beds that don't have lips on them or bills I guess you could consider those cuz I don't know. That's the way I understand it

Excellent video, I’m a big fan of all the Paul Brown stuff especially the soft dines. Subscribed.

I more or less agree, I think the biggest difference is jerkbaits tend to dive while twitchbaits are actually more of a non segmented glide bait where both require the user to impart the action.

Both saltwater and fresh water fishing I've noticed it's always the fall and not the action that predator fish are attracted to especially during winter for saltwater good info though keep up the videos bud

My best days ever were limiting out three days running in late November. Wade fishing a swale on the inside of Chandeleur Island. Falling tide. Sand bottom with a little grass. Ammunition for me was the MirrOlure 52M. White with pink on top and bottom with black spots. Every cast, every cast, every cast. That lure took a beating but kept on catching them.

I'll tell you my problem, after I take a bait out of the package and put it in my tackle box, I have no idea what it is since the label is gone with the packaging. I just guess at how deep it dives, or whatever. There needs to be a better way for guys like me who don't memorize the names of every single one of them. I wish they printed at least the depth on them somewhere. Some do, but only a few.

How deep was the water and how much tide I have use both just pulling them be hinde the boat and they all will catch when you find the trout

Is it possible to categorize which lures as being most effective during which groups of months---ex: Early Spring (Feb-Apr), Early-mid Summer (May-Sept) and Early Fall/Winter? (Oct-Jan)??? Knowing location/depth has great influences...BUT??? GREATLY INTRIGUED...Thank You!

John Castelluccio, those are the right questions and I believe there is some consistency that would allow general statements about what works best when and where. But there are also going to be a lot of exceptions. I haven’t attempted to place these baits on a calendar but that’s an interesting idea.

Too many options today, I can't keep up with the names. No consistency, just make it up as they go along. Thanks for the attempt at clarification, now if we could only get the manufacturers and "pro's" on board!

Maybe jerk bait is copywrited or patented?
