At 11:40 I'm getting an Egyptian Revival vibe from the sconce in the bathroom. The bobeche looks like a date palm tree and the back is possibly a papyrus leaf motif. The King Tut tomb was discovered in 1922, and everything Egyptian was all the rage during the time period when Eliza Kempner "updated" her home. And I could be completely wrong.
I would definitely move the existing light fixtures around to rooms better scaled to the size of the lighting. Looks like you will have your work cut out fir you to find new lighting - at a decent price - for all the rooms missing that feature. Could be an exciting scavenger hunt!
@@christinevr7698 Things have slowed down a lot as we work through getting the nonprofit up and running but there is still some work going on. 😀 We are about to get a new floor poured in the basement which will be a real turning point. Don't worry about being behind. We aren't going anywhere.
And most dangerously, the natural gas back then didn't have the added "rotten egg smell" which made a leak almost undetectable. The New London High School Texas explosion of 1937 changed that situation worldwide. The smell was then added everywhere gas is used.
The light fixture from the front hall is truly beautiful. I am thankful it is intact.
I totally agree! We are missing so much, it's good to at least have a few things.
The twelve candles is the Candela theory of luminous intensity
I read a little bit about how they started measuring light intensity when I was researching gas lighting. It was interesting.

Girl I want to go shopping for antique light fixtures with you! 😊
That would be cool!
The flowers on the hall lamp are called Bell flowers. They are a common motif on furniture too from the turn of the century.
Thanks for sharing that. They are so delicate looking.
It's such a mystery that there are so few photos of the house. Makes the ones you have been able to obtain such treasures.
I just know there has to be more out there somewhere.
Sad that some many fixtures are missing but I know you will love hunting for replacements!😃
I do love to shop!
Thank you
You're welcome

You are right. I'm going to have to take a closer look at that sconce.

I love to shop. We do have a rather exciting announcement to make about the light fixtures.
@@leaguekempnerhouse That’s wonderful! I’m a bit behind on vlogs - but from the thumbnails looks like you have done a tonne of work!!

Your videos are always educational as well as entertaining - would you like some strawberry preserves with your sconce?
Yes please, and a little Earl Grey.
You perform a great service to Amerikan History Nice Lady. Sadly Tejas history or amerikan is no longer taught in school.
I took Texas history in third grade. It was taught out of a mimeographed book. I still have my copy.😀
@@leaguekempnerhouse You Just Made me smile Nice Lady, We are few
Looks like there were globes on the gas part
Likely ceramic or porcelain candle covers
I'll have to search for those.
I need to do some more research on this light fixture. Maybe I can find a makers mark on it.
Wow...gas lighting, What an opportunity for a gas leak anywhere within a loose fitting.
And most dangerously, the natural gas back then didn't have the added "rotten egg smell" which made a leak almost undetectable. The New London High School Texas explosion of 1937 changed that situation worldwide. The smell was then added everywhere gas is used.
That was a terrible incident. I just met a woman whose grandmother was at the New London High School when the explosion happened.
I'm afraid of gas leaks in the house. I think we are going all electric.
