    Thank you so much for disclosing the costs! My husband and I have said a budget but it's so hard to try to figure out what things will cost! I feel like every time I watch a home remodel or kitchen remodel, we just show you what it looked like before and after and nobody will disclose how much it cost! It's frustrating. So I really appreciate your candor ❤️

    I paid $2,800 for my side by side fridge freezer pair, $399 for the convection microwave which I did not install in the heat zone above the oven stove that will shorten it's life, I paid $4899 for my full gas range with 6 burners and a gridle burner and twin ovens one 3 foot wide and one 18 inches wide (display item at half price) and $380 for the gas fitter to install , I paid $900 for the under bench twin porcelain farmhouse sinks including install by me and the traps and pipe needed , dishwasher was $600 we opted not to have disposal as we try to limit our waste and do not want to add to the sewer with extra rubbish that can be used other ways. cabinets including overheads to 10 feet ceiling bulkheads were $4,650 and two pack coated shaker doors were an additional $3900 but we have an Island so cabinets back to back and a butlers pantry with some cabinets and overheads. I installed all cabinets and like you had granite which cost $6,800 with the 5foot by 10 foot Island being a big part since we also have waterfall ends both sides and a 12 inch overhang for a breakfast bar effect one side making it 6 x 10 this was with a direct to trade only supplier around 2/3 of retail. Tile splash backs were almost $800 and floor tiles $600 and pro tiler cost $1,000 for cash. Extra timber and moldings cost almost $400 which I installed, paint was $128 ,
    I haven't included the cost of gutting or replacing wall here as we had to do it because of wet rot behind the original cabinetry, as the original build did not have water resistant wall sheeting.
    which gave a total of $24,356
    I think it was cheap as I had quotes off the plan of between $38,000 and almost $50,000

    For some reason I actually love the before cabinets. I really like the uniqueness of them. I wouldn’t taken them out for this house but in a funkier mid century modern or contemporary house they could really work. I hope you resalvaged them.

    I want to remodel my kitchen. I been asking around and the prices are much more than what this kitchen cost. Many tell me that materials have increased and labor is high.
    With this pandemic things are hard and not as before. I will be saving since I don’t like to ask for loans. I know my kitchen will cost more since I want a pantry and a storage closet for cleaning things we use in the kitchen. I’ll definitely keep you in mind. I subscribed to your Chanel and I’ll let you know when I saved the money. Thank you. The kitchen looks fabulous.

    Beautiful new kitchen. I am just about to have mine completely remodeled - the prices we pay for things here in New Zealand are astronomical compared with your costs - I am looking at around US$16,000 but that does include full professional installation. My appliance package (oven, stove top, external vent, microwave and dishwasher - no fridge) came in at US$3000, also in the Black Friday sale!

    Looks pretty good and not a bad price. I am redoing my kitchen, also opening up walls and plan on building my cabinets. Very nice update that you will enjoy or will increase the price and appeal of the house. I didn't see a backspash but I read in the comments you put that in later. I'm curious as to why wasn't the ceiling made flush where you removed the wall. Evidently that was not a load bearing wall (I hope). Big satisfaction by doing it yourself and saving bucks in the process.

    • @projectswithsteve
      @projectswithsteve  4 роки тому

      The wall removed was not load bearing. I didn't make it completely flat for a couple reasons. 1) If I made it flat, I was concerned of a crack developing in that spot over time and 2) by not making it flat, I didn't have to repaint the ceiling in the rest of the entire first floor. It's very hard to completely match ceiling paint to not make it noticable and there was a large space before the next stopping point. Thanks for watching!

    It's a lot less costly to remodel homes in US by the look of it because your homes are built with more timber. In OZ most of our homes are built using double brick & concrete. Hi Steve. I am a residential remodel contractor in southern Oregon and I think your hard work got you a very nice kitchen for the price that you paid. Great work! You did a fantastic job sourcing quality materials for very good pricing. I don't think I would be able to get such good pricing in my area. I do have one concern that may have been overlooked. Did you verify that the walls that you removed are not load bearing?
    I didn't see enough in your photos to be able make a final determination but there is a strong chance that the wall you removed between the kitchen and dining room was a load bearing wall. Typically in a house the age of yours the roof structure is hand built piece by piece. There is a chance that the roof was built with trusses and the walls are non load bearing but I didn't see the roof structure in this video. Typically with a hand built roof the wall closest to center span of the house (the wall you removed seems to be close to center span) is a load bearing wall. This wall is used to post off the top in the attic to support the ridge member of the roof. This wall is also used to break ceiling joists on since they are not stocked locally in lengths long enough to span the entire house.
    This is all speculation on my part and the walls may not be load bearing but I wanted to at least mention the possibility for anyone else reading this that may not be aware to take that into consideration. If the wall was load bearing then settling can occur over time causing the roof and/or ceiling to sag and drywall to crack. If the wall was load bearing it can still be fixed by adding a beam underneath or in the attic.
    I hope all of this does not come across as anything negative towards you or your work. I think you did a great job and I am just curious about the structure portion. This is the first video of yours that I have watched and I am going to check out more after this. Thanks for taking the time to share your remodeling project. - David

    Nicely done, Steve. My husband is in the process of doing my kitchen. I just ordered my customized modified kitchen cabinets and quartz countertops through HomeDepot. I’m not sure if I got robbed by the price but it’s quite pricey. We paid $22k - new plywood box cabinets, crown moldings, and quartz countertops. These costs doesn’t include labor and installation. I want a quality kitchen that will last me a life time. Btw, I just subbed to your channel as I enjoy watching home renovations.

      wow that is so cheap, what state are you from?. I'm in California just had mine quoted. For my small kitchen is $43,000 that's including Quartz counter top, backflash, new stove with 8 burners, new stainless steel kitchen air vent, new microvawe. If I want custom build cabinets top of the line of everything that would be $63,000. and if I want new floor add another $10k for entire downstair.

    Hi. I just watched your video. Incredible work. We are currently looking around to do the same, open up the kitchen to another room. We plan to use the cabinets we have. How much do you think it’ll cost to do that. We plan to add an island and nook. What’s a reasonable price someone would that all that for? Just trying to ask for advice.

    • @projectswithsteve
      @projectswithsteve  3 роки тому

      The price for that can vary drastically because it's mostly labor. It will depend on the area of the country you live in, if the wall if load bearing, and how much of the work you can do yourself. Good luck with your project! Please subscribe!
