- How much does a new kitchen cost?
In this video I go through the costs that I paid to do a complete renovation of our 1970s kitchen. I break down the costs for items like cabinets, countertops, electrical, plumbing, appliances, flooring and more.

thank you for telling the price a lot of ppl will give you the information but will be secretive with the cost.

I agree. It’s a disservice to your viewer to do a video but not indicate prices. People need a frame of reference. Thank you!!!
I agree! 👍
Thank you so much for disclosing the costs! My husband and I have said a budget but it's so hard to try to figure out what things will cost! I feel like every time I watch a home remodel or kitchen remodel, we just show you what it looked like before and after and nobody will disclose how much it cost! It's frustrating. So I really appreciate your candor ❤️
Thanks!
This was exactly what I want in a video about this topic. I know it's 3 years old now but since I just watched it in 2023, my compliments. As a viewer you often are left with questions after a video ends. You answered all those questions in the video. Nicely done.
We are in the process of making some update to my existing kitchen and realized there’s a lot going on in the kitchen. You did AMAZING for everything for your kitchen!! 👏👏👏👏👏
I paid $2,800 for my side by side fridge freezer pair, $399 for the convection microwave which I did not install in the heat zone above the oven stove that will shorten it's life, I paid $4899 for my full gas range with 6 burners and a gridle burner and twin ovens one 3 foot wide and one 18 inches wide (display item at half price) and $380 for the gas fitter to install , I paid $900 for the under bench twin porcelain farmhouse sinks including install by me and the traps and pipe needed , dishwasher was $600 we opted not to have disposal as we try to limit our waste and do not want to add to the sewer with extra rubbish that can be used other ways. cabinets including overheads to 10 feet ceiling bulkheads were $4,650 and two pack coated shaker doors were an additional $3900 but we have an Island so cabinets back to back and a butlers pantry with some cabinets and overheads. I installed all cabinets and like you had granite which cost $6,800 with the 5foot by 10 foot Island being a big part since we also have waterfall ends both sides and a 12 inch overhang for a breakfast bar effect one side making it 6 x 10 this was with a direct to trade only supplier around 2/3 of retail. Tile splash backs were almost $800 and floor tiles $600 and pro tiler cost $1,000 for cash. Extra timber and moldings cost almost $400 which I installed, paint was $128 ,
I haven't included the cost of gutting or replacing wall here as we had to do it because of wet rot behind the original cabinetry, as the original build did not have water resistant wall sheeting.
which gave a total of $24,356
I think it was cheap as I had quotes off the plan of between $38,000 and almost $50,000
For some reason I actually love the before cabinets. I really like the uniqueness of them. I wouldn’t taken them out for this house but in a funkier mid century modern or contemporary house they could really work. I hope you resalvaged them.
Great job on the kitchen.
Those old cabinets were sold to someone that was going to use them in their work shop.
Thanks. On the verge of redoing kitchen. This was very helpful.
Beautiful kitchen! Thank you for the cost breakdown!
Thanks Steve for sharing your video. Information like this is very helpful to people who are not familiar with renovation costs.
When we give some of our customers a number they are shocked at how expensive it is to make changes. Good information also good price for how it turned out.
Agreed with your costs! We bought a foreclosure 2 years ago, our kitchen is very similar to yours except our counters are black. We are just now putting subway backsplash in, can’t wait 💕

I want to remodel my kitchen. I been asking around and the prices are much more than what this kitchen cost. Many tell me that materials have increased and labor is high.
With this pandemic things are hard and not as before. I will be saving since I don’t like to ask for loans. I know my kitchen will cost more since I want a pantry and a storage closet for cleaning things we use in the kitchen. I’ll definitely keep you in mind. I subscribed to your Chanel and I’ll let you know when I saved the money. Thank you. The kitchen looks fabulous.
Beautiful new kitchen. I am just about to have mine completely remodeled - the prices we pay for things here in New Zealand are astronomical compared with your costs - I am looking at around US$16,000 but that does include full professional installation. My appliance package (oven, stove top, external vent, microwave and dishwasher - no fridge) came in at US$3000, also in the Black Friday sale!
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, my costs are lower because I did the labor myself. Good luck with your renovation!
Very details information. Thank you for sharing
You're welcome! Thanks for checking out my videos.
Nice informative video Steve. A lot of people have no idea of the cost and considerations.

Thank you so much for this honest, and thorough video! We are looking to buy a place. One consideration we must make, is we will have to put in the kitchen. You can "crunch numbers" till the cows come home, but still struggle to "visualize" what you calculate, and struggle trusting your numbers, when it is not your "day job". This gave us a clear picture of what to expect! tremdous help! THANKS

Thank you for this very valuable information.
I love those cabinets. My kitchen is much smaller. I keep thinking 10K at the most for my kitchen. I don’t need as many cabinets but do need flooring, counter tops, and stainless steel fridge. I think it’s time to get that estimate. Thanks for insight on pricing and your kitchen is beautiful, you did a great job.

I'm finishing up my kitchen and I spent about 12,000. I built the cabinets and got a ridiculous deal on the granite. New lifeproof vinyl floor, and black stainless appliances, under cabinet lights etc. Great job you saved about 15- 20 thousand doing that work yourself.
Thanks so much! That's awesome that you were able to build your own cabinets!
Would you mind elaborating on what you did in your kitchen, given that you built your own cabinets I would have expected it to be a few thousand less.
@@grumpyoldblunt47 about 4,500 of the 12,000 was cabinets. I could have gotten cheap cabinets for about that price but most of the cabinets I looked at were made with half inch particle board and veneer. Better cabinets cost more money. I made mine with 3/4 inch furniture grade ply and solid oak face frames/doors and premium hardware. So for the same amount of money I made my own.
@@grumpyoldblunt47 I installed a bathroom vanity last week and right out of the box the drawers didnt open and close smoothly. I had to replace a drawer slide. There was also a gap at the corner of the molding. Had to caulk and use touch up paint. She paid about 500 for just the cabinet. I'll be making my own bathroom vanity soon. I'm going to be painting it so I'm going to use a cheaper wood like poplar.
@@grumpyoldblunt47 in other words I can build a solid quality cabinet for about the price of a cheap one. Hope that answers your question. Not saying this guy used cheap cabinets but the ones I looked at looked cheap.
I love a white kitchen but have to say those 70's cabinets were super cool! They didn't fit in with the architecture of the home but loved them!
I love the cost breakdowns!!!!

Hi! Great video and walkthrough! I love the wall sign with the "Every Family Has a Story" message. Where did you purchase it? Thanks!
Thanks! I made that sign in the kitchen. We use push pins to attach out photos to it. It allows us to change them out when we want. The letters on the sign is vinyl that I bought from someone making them on eBay.

Dont buy new cabinets unless yours are trash. Build new shaker doors and paint. I redid my kitchen to look like this (laminate counter) and it cost me $3500 and $2000 of that was new fridge and stove

Nice work! Approximately how many hours of labor went into this?
Thanks for checking out my video. I am glad you liked it. I didn't track my hours on the kitchen, but I know I spent a lot of time on it. I would guess that I have almost 100 hours into the kitchen. I hope this helps. If you haven't already done so, please subscribe to my channel. I appreciate it. I also have another video showing the complete picture progression of my kitchen renovation.
That’s exactly the kitchen we want.
Perfect my quote is 12472
Looks pretty good and not a bad price. I am redoing my kitchen, also opening up walls and plan on building my cabinets. Very nice update that you will enjoy or will increase the price and appeal of the house. I didn't see a backspash but I read in the comments you put that in later. I'm curious as to why wasn't the ceiling made flush where you removed the wall. Evidently that was not a load bearing wall (I hope). Big satisfaction by doing it yourself and saving bucks in the process.
The wall removed was not load bearing. I didn't make it completely flat for a couple reasons. 1) If I made it flat, I was concerned of a crack developing in that spot over time and 2) by not making it flat, I didn't have to repaint the ceiling in the rest of the entire first floor. It's very hard to completely match ceiling paint to not make it noticable and there was a large space before the next stopping point. Thanks for watching!
You did a remarkable job, I know someone that paid three times what you paid good job 👏
Hi, great work! Where did you get the cabinets from?
Steve you did really good on your kitchen.
Thanks so much!
Great video, I’m looking into doing ours. I really want to find a contractor I can work with to save on cost. A lot of this stuff isn’t “hard” I just need someone to guide me. Especially in the cabinet install.
Good luck with your renovation, Sarah!
Do heavy research on youtube, you can find almost anything. Turn into an FBI agent like you are trying to find out who is Karen, who liked your boyfriend's picture. I'm positive you will not need a contractor.
I loved it!... my question how resistant is the floor with liquids?
This floor has been great in regards to holding up to liquids. It can tolerate liquids a lot better than a lamanite wood floor which usually has a particle board like backing that soaks up water if it gets wet. This floor does not have a backing Luke that. Please subscribe!
The original cabinets looked pretty awesome and high end.
I like the new ones much better. Thanks for watch!
We just bought a 70s house. Have not got to the kitchen yet. We updated bathrooms and floors. Everything is so expensive. I do all the demo but pay for finish work. Kitchen cabinet prices are crazy
Just got a sweet deal on my kitchen suite for 2300! Black Friday deal with Home Depot! Currently in the middle of a kitchen reno!!

Hi, what size of the kitchen? And the size of the countertop of the breakfast bar? Great work, well done guys.
thanks for the great video! so many things to think of! did you buy the appl's first and build around them? in what order did you progress: buy appl's, install appl's, then countertops, then cabinets, floor, ...etc? or was it haphazzard? seems a project manager would be worth the cost.
I started with the layout of the kitchen and the style I wanted to achieve. Countertop and appliances came later. I worked around the flooring that was already up existing. Thanks for watching!
Hey, Steve! Do you mind stating what brand of cabinets you bought, or where you purchased them from? Also, are the cabinets wood, MDF, etc.?
JSI cabinets. Plywood boxes.
Good job. Do you mind me asking what material the cabinets are made of?
The boxes are solid plywood. The frames and doors are solid maple. Please subscribe if you like this kind of content. Thanks.
It's a lot less costly to remodel homes in US by the look of it because your homes are built with more timber. In OZ most of our homes are built using double brick & concrete. It's very costly to get renos done, sometimes even more than the cost of building new. It's crazy. 🤣🤣 Great being able to use your own labour. Great job! 👌👍👊👏👏
Yes, it's great being able to provide your own labor! Saves a lot of money! Thanks for watching!
GREAT breakdown. If you don't mind, where did you buy the cabinets?

Great job with the kitchen remodel. Where did you get your cabinets?
Thanks so much!! I purchased my cabinets online from The Wholesale Cabinet Supply. I hope this helps.
Projects With Steve how do you get them at contractors rate?
Projects With Steve do you have to be a contractor? Or just know how to get it?
Beautiful Kitchen! May I ask what your cabinet style is? Essex White or Dover White? We are doing a kitchen remodel. Still looking for cabinet. Love your video!
I believe it is Dover White.
Currently redoing my kitchen right now and have been doing lots of research. You can save yourself alot by getting your new appliances installed before your cabinets, countertops and flooring. Doing that alone cut my price considerably.
What do you mean by this? How did it save you money?
Great! Thanks 🙏
Hi Steve. I am a residential remodel contractor in southern Oregon and I think your hard work got you a very nice kitchen for the price that you paid. Great work! You did a fantastic job sourcing quality materials for very good pricing. I don't think I would be able to get such good pricing in my area. I do have one concern that may have been overlooked. Did you verify that the walls that you removed are not load bearing?
I didn't see enough in your photos to be able make a final determination but there is a strong chance that the wall you removed between the kitchen and dining room was a load bearing wall. Typically in a house the age of yours the roof structure is hand built piece by piece. There is a chance that the roof was built with trusses and the walls are non load bearing but I didn't see the roof structure in this video. Typically with a hand built roof the wall closest to center span of the house (the wall you removed seems to be close to center span) is a load bearing wall. This wall is used to post off the top in the attic to support the ridge member of the roof. This wall is also used to break ceiling joists on since they are not stocked locally in lengths long enough to span the entire house.
This is all speculation on my part and the walls may not be load bearing but I wanted to at least mention the possibility for anyone else reading this that may not be aware to take that into consideration. If the wall was load bearing then settling can occur over time causing the roof and/or ceiling to sag and drywall to crack. If the wall was load bearing it can still be fixed by adding a beam underneath or in the attic.
I hope all of this does not come across as anything negative towards you or your work. I think you did a great job and I am just curious about the structure portion. This is the first video of yours that I have watched and I am going to check out more after this. Thanks for taking the time to share your remodeling project. - David
Hi again Steve. I just watched your other video on your bathroom remodels and you mentioned that one of them is an upstairs bathroom. Is the house 2 stories above where you removed those walls?
Hi David. The house is a tri-level made with pre-engineered trusses. There is no upstairs above the kitchen. The wall removed was not load bearing. I had a couple other builders look at it before I started the project too. Thanks for watching!
@@projectswithsteve Awesome that's great news! I subscribed and I'm looking forward to more content.
honestly it took me about 6 months to complete my kitchen remodeling all by myself. i had to removed all the old wall cement boards to add recess lighting and re route all my electrical which was originally routed into the wall i was removing.
i spent somewhere around 10.000 thousand dollars. for me the most expensive components was the cabinets. and counter tops. and all brandnew appliancess. this is the first time i have done this i had no experiencess and all in remodeling anything in homes i had a lot of help from youtube. p.s. i have a mechanical and electrical experience so that came into play.
I am glad your kitchen renovation turned out great! Thanks for sharing. Please subscribe!
what was the time frame of all worked done start to finished?,,,,, BTW nicely done!
We were not living in the home at the time. The remodel took about 3 months. It could have gone faster, but our twins were born during that time which brought the renovation to a fault for a while.
Nicely done, Steve. My husband is in the process of doing my kitchen. I just ordered my customized modified kitchen cabinets and quartz countertops through HomeDepot. I’m not sure if I got robbed by the price but it’s quite pricey. We paid $22k - new plywood box cabinets, crown moldings, and quartz countertops. These costs doesn’t include labor and installation. I want a quality kitchen that will last me a life time. Btw, I just subbed to your channel as I enjoy watching home renovations.
Thanks! I hope your new kitchen turns out great! Material costs can vary drastically depending on where you buy them, quality, material type, ect.
Job well done!
Thanks so much!
I watched this video several months ago and went with this cabinet cabinet company for a quote on my new build. We'll be purchasing our cabinets next month with the upgraded blum hinges and glides. Just curious now that a year has passed, how do you feel about the cabinets? Any issues?
I am still happy with our cabinets. No issues so far. I am glad that we chose the ones we did. Good luck with your kitchen renovation!
What was the company?
Looks great. Good price. Doing ours now. Custom Built cabinets, granite, back splash, sink, all labor, 13.500
Thanks! Sounds like a great price, especially for custom cabinets. Good luck with your project. Please subscribe!
wow that is so cheap, what state are you from?. I'm in California just had mine quoted. For my small kitchen is $43,000 that's including Quartz counter top, backflash, new stove with 8 burners, new stainless steel kitchen air vent, new microvawe. If I want custom build cabinets top of the line of everything that would be $63,000. and if I want new floor add another $10k for entire downstair.

Hi. I just watched your video. Incredible work. We are currently looking around to do the same, open up the kitchen to another room. We plan to use the cabinets we have. How much do you think it’ll cost to do that. We plan to add an island and nook. What’s a reasonable price someone would that all that for? Just trying to ask for advice.
The price for that can vary drastically because it's mostly labor. It will depend on the area of the country you live in, if the wall if load bearing, and how much of the work you can do yourself. Good luck with your project! Please subscribe!
