  • This is me trying to see my top speed in a quarter mile. Think I was just over 90. Gotta late shift or two after start.

I had the 83 Seca. Best run, 11.9, but generally in the low 12's. I loved the smooth shaft drive. Blew away Suzuki 750s, Norton 850s, and Harley's were too easy to beat. The only bike that gave me a good run was the Kawasaki 900. Neck and neck. Fun bike.

FYI, I had one of those brand new and frequently race it at the local drags in stock form and my best was 12.3 @114 mph I weighed 165 lbs it was advertised @ 11.99 with Peewee Gleason on it but I never could get mine down that low, I was launching at 7500 rpm because it had just enough wheel spin to hold a sweet little wheelie through 1st. Fast bike for the day and great memories.

hub: Almost the same experience I had with my '83 Seca. Best stock was 12.6 @ 112, and after re-jetting and some re-timing, I finally turned a 11.6 @ 126 best. I loved the shaft drive, and sold it before I had any issues with it. Blew away pre-1984 900 Kawis on a regular basis (they were everywhere), and even a Suzuki 1000. I was told it was the fastest stock production bike in that year. I tend to believe it.

SmartrMelons yup they were fast, I went up against a modified Honda 750 and a dude on a CBX and and whipped them both, not sure if my bike was faster or I was just crazier 😝

Probably a little of both:) I know the feeling, and the thrill that the bike gave. Some of these newer bikes would wipe it off the road though. Honda 750 (which blew me away at first) had about 10 HP less, if I remember correctly. The 900 Kawis had about the same as the Seca, around 85-90HP stock. One of the first 'computer' read-outs too. Great to know my kickstand was down, lol.

Good job and the bike sounds great. Back in the day with expert testing on dragstrips, the bike typically hit 105-8 in the quarter, so you did good despite your gear issues !!!
