    I prefer sailyachts because when pretending that I will own a yacht one day, I like to keep in mind that if fueling a land vehicle drives me mad... a motor yacht would have me jumping overboard.

      This could have been a very nice Cruising Sailboat Nick, but it has three serious flaws in my honest opinion - the Shoal Draft is too deep at over 5.58 feet, and the Mast height above waterline air Draft is 65.58 feet For Cruisers those stats lose you access in and out of an extremely wide range of places, and perhaps the ability to run for shelter into well protected small Bays with limited low tide water depth tho Anchor in, plus you lose access to Estuaries and Rigers, with limited Bridge heights, and Power and telephone lines crossing them. having the option with an order to get a low Mast height above the waterline seems easily achievable but with that minimum keel Draft, basically you are screwed. The other issue is the maximum horsepower engine option is 56 hp, which rules out getting the far superior ZF Saildrive, which only starts being available with the 80 hp engine and larger. With the very decent low rpm Torque levels with the 80 hp, and a ery good low rpm propeller such as the Flexofold and others, the fuel consumption can be just as good with a decent boat speed of 7 knots or higher. Boatbuilders seem to have the strange idea that the only places people go Sailing is in the Meditteranean, and that evdryone who Sails somehow wants to go bloody Sailboat Racing, and they have forgotten all about the benefits that can come with Shallow Draft Wing Keels. You may fi d this in reliable Nick, but the only way that I can get the Shallow Craft I need, with a new Sailboat, is to have a Custom Lead Wing Keel Designed, Built, and delivered to a competent Boatyard in the USA, close enough to the Canadian Factory, to make Economic Delivery Viable. In Lead, I stead of iro , means the Draft can be under 4 foot 6 inches Sigh Again though, the largest engine it can be delivered with, is going to have to be run with for a while, until it can get replaced with the 80 hp Yanmar to get that ZF Saildrive. Sailboat Cruisers and Voyagers really are being very badly let down, as well as Charter Fleet in Esters as the prices they can get for their ex harder Fleet Boats are going to continue getting Hammered, once buyers realise they really aren't that good a deal to start Cruising in imho. Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟👍

    • @brownnoise357
      @brownnoise357 2 місяці тому

      @@davebetney The Running Costs of a Sailboat, are nearly as bad as one with two hulls Frankly, and that pretty much applies to a Ketch Rig and Cutter Rig too, as Standing Rigging, Running Rigging, and extra Sails really start Stacking up versus a Sloop Rig KISS Principles Aft Cockpit Sailboat for a Comfortable and Safe Liveaboard boat, that can have a decent amount of Rigid Solar Panels mounted on an Aft Cockpit Arch, with Minimum Shading effect plus there are decent semi Flexible Solar Panels to mount on the top of the Bimini, which can give a very useful and long life Solar Power boost - though choose carefully, as most flexible Solar Panels are finished within 2 years as UV exposure Delaminates them. Then all you have to worry about, as a Cruiser, is the Draft Shallow enough, is the Mast Height Air Draft Low enough above the waterline, and is the inboard Diesel Big enough to make sure the Boat isn't Underpowered ? Getting a good enough Anchor on the end of all Chain with a robust Swivel, is pretty easy in Comparison. As a Cruiser, you spend most of your time at Anchor, so you need a decent Anchor that Sets fast and can be relied upon and there are two options that won't break the Bank - the CQR - which despite my suspicions and doubts about Anchors with hinges, has passed the test of time, and my personal Favourite, which got me and the boat through a Terrible Tornado Storm Safely, and which has also passed the test of time - the Genuine Lewmar Delta Anchor if nicely oversized. Mi hael of the Sailing Gently Channel and a Lifelong Fan of the CQR recently lost his, after sticking with them since his Circumnavigation, during which he was anchoring out almost exclusively with no problems,and best value replacement he could find was a Lewmar Delta, and so far has experienced no issues, and finds that it sets fast and reliably, just like I did. A Sailboat that had used a Lewmar Delta Oversized Anchor which held them securely in 50 plus knot winds, switched to a very expensive "Ultra" Anchor, and ended up dragging in much weaker wind strengths. Me ? If I can't get a Lewmar now, it will be a CQR tbh. 🤔 Best Wishes. Bob. 👍

    I love the sailing yachts you show us Nick! They look so graceful,,,,,, even moored up in the harbour 🤗 But I have to say I completely freak out at the thought of EVER being an Owner/Captain on one 😮😢All the Grace would disappear with a 0.5 knot ‘gust’ of air, panic & hysteria would ensue and an indeterminate amount of damage would be caused🫣😳🤗
    No, I’d just love to sit there watching & feeling the air & sea spray, along with the occasional sea bird/creature, whilst admiring the crew and their endeavours 👍
    Loved the yacht though Nick👍

    Nice boat ! I like that they brought the lines all the way back to the helms. Most manufacturers who bring all lines to the cockpit have most of them come back to the sides of the companionway which means you have to ask guests to trim or push past them to cross the cockpit

    I would do away with the ensuite and maybe have a small chaise lounge in the main cabin instead? Or a chair? And I'd ditch both spare cabins. Turn the starboard one into an office with Starlink and the portside one into, as you say, an extended galley and tool room/workshop! Also put a freezer in there and extra water and batteries. Maybe in the office room, the desk could fold up, or be converted into a single bed for emergencies. And as shown, the salon can be converted into a bed anyway.

    Nice in terms of accommodation, but one thing I don't like about both the Hanz and Bavaria yachts is the prioritisation of accommodation over things such as a proper nav desk etc. they've always reminded me of floating caravans. I like comfort but also practicality in terms of actual sailing. Personally I prefer Jeanneau yachts.
