Classy video. Most boat videos are either “Look and Learn” OR “Narration led”. This one is a tasteful combination of the two plus the supplement of excellent drone footage.
I'm in the old school camp , I prefer boats with more balance ends and encapsulated lead modified keels. Fat sterns and plumb bows look great at the boat show and the interior volume can be huge but they make for a bouncy wet sail in a following sea and a boat that has to be micro managed .
Nice! -- QUESTION -- Can someone please discuss the thinking behind dual fin rudders that are NOT protected by any type of skeg? This is, I was taught by everyone (including Hallberg Rassy for many years) a dangerous rudder choice for a go-anywhere sailboat. Those rudders will smack off of anything from the dock, chains in Med when mooring, rocks, reefs etc and immediately bend or puncture the hull as they bend. What is going on here? Is there any proper study or discussion about this?
Amaizing yacht that Hallberg Rassy has produced. Hallberg Rassy entered the new year with an amaizing yacht. I just hope the layouts will also be configurable. For example to have one helm not two, bunks beds in the forward stb cabin, and a sofa instead of the arm chairs. I use my current yacht for charter and private use so having the flexibility of sleeping options would be great. I also think that having the hard top spray hood would just make the overall look of the yacht so beautiful. I have been waiting for this boat to come out for a while. The smallest Hallberg Rassy with a center cockpit with three real cabins with doors. Good luck with the sales of this beautiful yacht. I will be comming to Ellos for a ship yard tour and to see the 50 footer as soon as the Covid-19 situation allows. If the price is right it just might be the right yacht to consider.
Great sailing boat, great video. With a semi-sized hardtop for protection of the cockpit and the watchkeepers could be the perfect explorer boat. Great interior!
Its a little but really important thing among all the superlatives that one can say about that boat... The cockpit. Enclosed, centralized, secure with place enough to work the lines not like on so many other beautiful new boats where the cockpit is placed at the very edge of it with only the railings behind...This is a true sailors sailing boat though quite expensive even if deservingly so ... Great job.
I enjoyed this video … as the owner of 2 Malo yachts (39 and 43) back in the day in the UK and later CA I can very clearly understand the feelings described. Having the good fortune to own ocean-ready yachts is, well, the best. HR was my first love but when I was in the market my wife and I wanted the flexibility then offered by Malo Yachts … and we really enjoyed being able to short-hand to France and Ireland from the UK.
WOW! Great to see the blend of comfort, technology & performance. I would like to see an out water shot to get a perspective including the keel & props.
Sensational craft! Elegant and powerful, a synergy of style and function ... I know i cant afford it, but she is undeniably a thing of beauty, without question! ... Excellent show case video too, thanks Båtagent
What a beautiful Bluewater sailing yacht from one of the worlds premier boat builders. The Oyster 565 is another similar yacht worth looking at that could be described in exactly the same way.
This really is a beautiful yacht built to the highest standards. That carbon rig is a thing of wonder and beauty. Why do they insist on mounting the Genoa Tack so low, causing the sail to foul on the guard wires at every point other than close-hauled? The price of those amazing sails must be eye-watering, yet they are happy to have it chafe and rub, destroying the sail and putting significant load on the stanchions, not forgetting the effect on air flow over the sail, which would negate any advantages of the lower tack. Surely a re-design of the pulpit stanchions or raising the tack position would not be beyond the designers? It seems a common issue with a lot of manufacturers, maybe I am the only person that finds this poor design!
Looks like HR are moving towards more of a performance cruising sailboat, dual helms, ultra flush decks, and trending a bit away from the Blue Water handle anything brand that they have been synonymous for. One of my favourite brands still though but just from observations.
Nice! -- QUESTION -- Can someone please discuss the thinking behind dual fin rudders that are NOT protected by any type of skeg? ~~~~~~~+++++ Have a Dream! Fantastic and best Yacht for Sailing around the world! Excellent Test Niklas Lindgren! LIKE IT!!! Greetings to Rassy-Team and CEO M. Rassy!!!
My only concern on this boat and the 40C (and seemingly most current designs) is the apparent lack of ability for a mechanical wind vane due to the stern design. Am I way off base with this concern? Thanks in advance. Really sweet presentation.
Nice! -- QUESTION -- Can you "redo" the 57 and make it have the same ratio beam to length of the 50 or better yet, the 40C? The 57 is not of the same modern dimensions as these two. Should be 18.5 feet wide if built like the 40c or 50.
Is the cockpit actually larger than on the HR40C? Also noticed that the cockpit does not impinge inside the aft cabin like the HR40C cockpit. I guess yacht design is filled with compromise just like everything else. The HR50 really does look beautiful. You must have some really skilled employees in your yard.
First of all, thank you for your video. But could I ask for one thing, could you add some sailing performance data upwind and downwind. Like: what boat angle sails best up wind and down wind, what speed you achieved... minor details, but usefull to know :) Tusen Tak! Thank you :)
I have a question, out of the three boats (Amel 50, Oyster 475, and Hallberg-Rassy 50), which one is best for all-around? I plan to sail with my wife, and my grown son occasionally, in the pacific ocean, mainly.
That depends alot on your taste. You should try entering one of each to see what you think. Personally i like Hallberg-Rassy. Always superb quality and ive heard theyre not just all about great looks, but also great sailing.
You, your wife, and "occasionally" one son...... Something a lot smaller than a 20 ton 50 footer..... :) At least unless moving aboard and literally living on the thing full time for years on end is the plan.
There is just one thing that I did notice and that was the head sail that was rubbing against the stanchion lines, is there any concern for this or are they able to increase the hight of the head sail from the forepeak area to be able to clear those line as I am not a sailor but would this not cause some sort of damage to the sail area???
My 2 cents. Scandinavian styling is unmatched as to be expected. I am dead set against TV on a boat. Replace with a bookshelf. I Like the clothes washing but lose the dishwasher. I like to hand wash dishes - it's a form of meditation sort of. No solar panels? And I agree the video work is obviously outstanding.

@@FighterFred Jepp, för drygt 5 mille mindre får man en Discovery 48S som är minst lika kompetent. För drygt 10 mille mindre så får man en Beneteau Oceanis 54.
The price new on one of these is probably around 1.5 million usd. For this price range why wouldn’t you get an Outremer or similar catamaran as a blue water sailboat? More living space on a cat as well as being faster.
No offence, but I'm uncomfortable offshore in something inherently more stable inverted. If I cruise I like a yacht ... and this is the cruisers yacht brand ... and this, the 50', may well be their best short handed world cruiser yet.
It’s really a matter of personal preference. As long as you can stay out of the bad weather, fast cruising cats are very nice but, when the shit hits the fan or you make a mistake, you’ll be wishing you had a boat like this. Also this boat is going to be 75% the speed of a cruising cat and faster upwind, it’s a big very big, fast, high performance ocean yacht of the highest caliber. Monohulls are still just preferred by most. Just like older airplanes are preferred by many airplane owners. Familiarity, confidence, conservative, etc.
@@SailFlyTri cats like Outremer & other new production boats all do really well in bad weather. Agree the monohulls do better upwind but there are ways around that in a cat. My personal preference especially given the price point would be an Outremer or similar. If the speed differential is at 25% that shaves a lot of time off of an extended voyage such as a transoceanic crossing as well as allowing you to escape bad weather. Either way though both categories of boats have their compromises I just prefer cats.
@@SailFlyTri "..but, when the shit hits the fan.." You mean, when the in mast electric furler gets hung up on a batten, crushes some carbon and leaves you with a full main in a rising gale? Or perhaps that tall, wet carbon rig ends up attracting a flash og lightning, knocking out all those electrics so you have to, for the first time in the middle of a storm, figure out how to wrestle with those football field sized sails? Not saying this isn't a beautiful and wonderful boat. And surely one which is built about as well as is humanly possible. But monohulls simply can not compete with catamarans for big, open living spaces. Unless the monos are so big as to be completely unmanageable by any typically minimal cruising crew, without all these electric doodads working. Which effectively ensures the monos are giving up any "safety" advantage they may have had over a well founded cat (Outremer). All in an ultimately vain attempt to keep up with the cats in some Instagram-interior contest. In the specific context of Scandinavia, too much of even "sailing season" is too cold for wide open, necessarily lightly built cats. Ellos is as far North as Anchorage. Alaska isn't exactly cat country either. So, if you want big interiors, big, wide boats is where it's at. And while weather in the Baltic can suck big time, you're still closer to land than out in the Pacific or Atlantic. But in climates where most people make long ocean passages: the light build hence light weight of cats, is what allows even those with big interiors to get by with sails manageable even without all the motors and fanciness, should those fail.
The helm station doesn’t seem to have much protection from the weather which would be very uncomfortable in rough weather and seas. The modern sails and the rest of the boat are beautiful .
We have just delivered a new Hallberg Rassy 50. Fabulous yacht!
This is a top pick for me. Best cabin. Easy sailing rig. Excellent engine room. Excellent refrigeration. Great showers. It's all there.
Just simply beautiful. Reading some of the negative comments below, they are clearly from people who have never sailed the rough seas.
