Your purchase scenario sounds identical to mine 3 months ago; except mine is a Coleman. Told one thing by sales, reality is different. I tried to research what was happening thru the trailer manufacturer's website, generic owner's manual ("if installed..."), Dealer Service Dept., other YT videos, etc. Yours was the first source to tell me exactly why I couldn't find the hook-up plate for the Gateway on the ceiling of my trailer. The dome on top just says Air 360 - it doesn't have the + after it! Given that the Winegard service is not available here in Canada, only if I go south, I won't plan to upgrade the antenna & Gateway at this time after all. Maybe I'll give some consideration to the Starlink system, but will research that further. Thanks to you though for explaining the problem with my Winegard!
You’re very welcome northern neighbor. I think you’re making the right call. I upgraded the antenna & the gateway. I chose to do it and found the increase in service marginal at best. It works, but was it worth the money and time I put into it? Nope!

Thanks Tony. I have to tackle this project this Saturday with my 2019 Cougar 30RLS. I have the batwing antenna on there now and it's been recalled. I am going to use a heat gun to pull up the old lap sealant so that I can have a clean, flat base to mount the 360+ base. My rig is already wired for Wi-Fi, so I will not need the Winegard router.
How did the install go?

Good job Tony, I thought the access point went inside where the hub is in the ceiling now I know how it works.
Yours may very well be in the hub on the interior, depending on what rig you have and how the manufacturer wired it. Speaking to my dealer, he said most of the Sunset Trails units are on the roof which is where mine was.
I meant to mention that the video. I thought I did but I guess I forgot to. Good luck with the mod. Once you get the dam thing wired it’s a piece of cake and works great.
@@explorationsrenovations5982 I took the interior cover off and all that there was the two wire with no connector so I figured it was mounted under the dome.

Yea it was a real pain. In hindsight, I probably wouldn’t have gone this route if I had to do it again. We don’t use this system much anymore. The marginal increase in service and unpredictability is making us lean toward starlink now.
I hope you do another video showing how everything works and how is doing against the wind when you're going down the road Let us know how that router works I don't know if they have a bigger one the stronger signal or can you use a different router with that
i think your rv was prewired for the winegard connect 2.0 thats what my sunset trail was wired for

I reused the screws the manufacturer used to mount the original Winegard unit. They look to be about 3/4” #8 self tapping screws.
Why did you put the gateway inside the antenna?
Thank you for this video. I have a Grand Design 5th wheel and I have never been able to watch OTR TV and my radio has only picked up close FM stations. I took the wall plate power supply off and checked each coax with a tester and I know where each line goes but there's no coax for the antenna. I have coax from the radio to the wall plate but nothing from the radio to anywhere else. Do you think during the build of my RV they forgot to install the coax from the Air360 down to wherever it's supposed to be attached?
What the Winegard tech rep told me is that each rv mfgr wires it differently. The problem is RVs are all built by hand and wired individually each time. There is zero automation or consistency. So even the exact same unit can be wired completely different on a Monday than how it gets wired on Tuesday. That is why it’s impossible for an rv manufacturer to give you a wiring diagram. It’s really a big problem. There are so called “standards” for how each unit is “suppose” to be wired, but again that changes from manufacturer to manufacturer. The only reliable way to figure it out unfortunately is doing what I did. Take things apart and trace them out. It’s a gigantic PITA but you do learn a lot about your RV that way.

@@explorationsrenovations5982 Thanks for the answer. I used a Coax Tester made by Klein to trace each coax line but like I said, didn't find anything for the Air360. I guess I'll be heading on to the roof to take it off and check. Have a great day Tony and thanks again for your reply!
I cant help thinking that router is going to cook itself in that black dome with no ventilation (particularly mid summer) any electronic device absolutely hates high temperatures, thanks for sharing.

Hey Tony, good video. I'm wondering, why did you have power up there if the antenna was a "passive" antenna (i.e. no power amps)? Should I have power up there somewhere on my 2022 Grand Design Transcend 297QB? I just have the Air 360, not the plus. I'll be upgrading soon.
I e been getting they question a lot from Grand Design owners. Apparently they set they pre-wired rigs up differently then sunset trails. I don’t really know much about that. This video was specific to how sunset trails sets up their rigs.
@@explorationsrenovations5982, Thanks. I believe my spec sheet in my owners manual says 360+. Why they put a 360 up there I don’t know. I may have to call them on this and force an upgrade. I love the grand design because it’s built like a tank but there’s just a couple of small things that are bugging me. What I just discovered was that my antenna, the Winegard 360, is connected to a 12 V power source inside the trailer. It appears that there is a 12 V source headed to that antenna. I think it serves the purpose as a boost only. Not sure if the coax from the A360 goes down to the 12 V DC wall plate boost then to my TV, or whether there’s two 12 V wires going up to the antenna. From what I’m seeing on UA-cam, it doesn’t look like there is any 12 V connectors inside the 360.

@@explorationsrenovations5982 Hi Tony, Since the 360+ only adds 5 miles boost to my current Winegard, and the cell antenna only boosts cell signal, I opted to go with a cell booster only. TV Reception is great and my TT doesn’t come prewired I found out. I even purchased the Gateway 1000 and everything. Good thing I researched it. I didn’t want to tear up that roof. Thx for checking in.
My 360 plus which is AR2, the router goes inside trailer looking at Winegard installation manual, not sure what model it goes inside

I may have missed it, but why did you mount the router on the outside and not inside?
I probably didn’t show that or explain it properly. But that’s exactly what I did. I mounted it inside the dome on the mounting slots provided!!

On some units, yes. There are 2 places to mount it depending on how your rig was wired from the factory. My camper pre-wire configuration meant I needed to mount it to the Winegard unit under the dome.

Do you need a SIM card/data plan to complete the install?
No SIM card but you need a data plan. Winegard offers one but they can also utilize an existing AT&T or Verizon plan. I think they recently also started working with T-Mobile plans.

Ok Tony why is there another hole in you roof right next too where you putting the winegard
I was told that this hole is for units that come equipped with the internal router or the Winegard Connect 2.0. They use the extra hole to install those items. So I guess they put all the holes in all the units then use whatever hole they need based on the equipment they’re providing for that particular RV and cap the rest.

@@gardnetbush9768 you may have to take the plate off that covers the extra hole to grab the power wire. That’s why I had to open it up. Then you’ll have to fish that power wire from the extra hole to the hole under your Winegard unit.
@@explorationsrenovations5982 my doesn't have a plate or extra hole i think they just Fed the coax and the power line straight to the back of the TV that where a power pack and my on and off button is at
Looks like we have the same thing. 360 deg and it does nothing. The rv company has no idea how it works, Yep because it’s fake. 1 Idk if I want to rip this thing off our roof. 2 idk if I want to purchase something I was told it was “all pre installed and ready”. Sure that’s great the wires are ran. really just feel Scammed.
Yep. I know exactly how you feel. I was pretty pissed. That’s why I made this video. I will say that now that I’ve got the right stuff and installed correctly, the thing works great!!

These are the biggest scam today.
2 years into this and I have to admit, I completely agree. I’m not a fan of this system. It rarely offers any significant service. Save your money and get starlink.
@@explorationsrenovations5982 my camper came with one installed by i might remove it and use the holes for solar and use the spot for an extra panel.
