She's an imigrant in a foreign land (Swedish emigrating to America in the mid 1800s). In the story she has lost her latest child at his birth. The doctor has said that if she has another pregnany she will die herself. She feels like she's loosing her husband and her other children because they have assimilated to the new land but she has not. Now she can't even sleep with her husband, the last bit of joy in her life. She is extremely homesick, sad and alone. She's very devout and she is now doubting that God exists ans she sings to Him all her doubts and anger.
    The chorus says
You have to be there, you have to, I live my life through you
without you I'm a wreck out in a dark and stormy Sea
You have to be there, you have to, how can you abandone me
I'm nowhere and nothing if you are not there.

2:29 No, not "Meet Ball" :) She sings "mitt barn". The whole sentence is "Och du tog mitt barn" which means "And you took my child" :) ..Awesome guess though! ;)

This is from a Musical. Kristina from Duvemåla. About Swedish immigrants in the US in the 1800s. (Made by Björn and Benny from ABBA).
Please switch on the english subtitle so you can understand the meaning and the depth of the story. Really good!

When she looks up.. She is singing to God.. She is angry with God. Because god took away one of her children. She starts to question God's existance. It is a very very powerful song.

@@BinNeverStop The Lyrics in the beginning goes like this.
Du fördrev mig Gud. (Thou drove me away God) Från mitt hemland slets jag bort. (From my homeland I was torn away) Här är jag en flykting och en främling. (Here I am a refugee and a stranger) Och det ödet finner jag mig i. (And that destiny I give into).. Men du tog mitt barn (But thou tookest my child) Och du tar mig från min man (And thou takest me from my husband) Jag kan inte längre se någon mening (I can no longer see any point) Vad är det du vill? (What doest thou want?) Vad ska jag tro? (What should I believe?)

@@swedishmetalbear lol why are you using like, old english words in your translation?
      Du is literally just You.
And Tar is literally just Take.

@@elissiaro It really isn't though.. You is Ni in Swedish. They are used for the same purpose.. But mean different things. The culture for both pronouns are different too. In English. Thou was too personal.. So it was cleansed from speech.. In Swedish.. Ni was deemed too hierarchical and was removed from speech.. We are using different pronouns in both language.. And they mean different things.

@@BinNeverStop no, it is about losing trust in god because her child died. the song is taken from a musical called kristina från duvemåla and a quiet sad story, written and composed by benny and björn from abba.

Oh wow. I’ve only heard of songs that praise God. I didn’t expect it to be that sad, no wonder why she got really angry singing the ending part. She did an amazing job interpreting the message

Kristina emigrates from Sweden to America in the mid 1800s, as did many many swedes. The church power is very strong and there were poor working conditions and years of misgrowth led to famine. Her husband wants to leave but she doesn’t. Kristina is deeply religious (as everyone was) and wouldn’t dare to question Gods purpose with all this hardship. Only when their daughter dies from starvation she agree to emigrate. When they lose another child, the doctor tell them she can never get pregnant again since that could lead to her death (aka no more sexy time). That’s her last straw. And she sings this song, questioning God.

It makes more senses now. No wonder why she could pull it out like that, so she also composed this masterpiece. Even with English subtitle, I believe the original Sweden language conveys the best emotion

She is singing to God, questioning his existance because she has been met with hardship after hardship. Losing a child, about to lose her husband. She is a Swedish immigrant in America during the 19th century.
Check out the subtitled version to get even more out of this performance. Also, please react to Peter Jöback singing "Guldet blev till sand" from the same musical. Subtitled of course.
