    I liked the format of this video and your review. I do not own any Grant Stone boots but you make a good case on why men should have at least one pair.

      Thanks, Erik! I really like this format also. Going forward, any review that isn't an unboxing will probably have this format. I would rather chat about my own feelings and experiences than go through a list of "this is goodyear welted, this uses xyz stiching, etc etc." All that stuff is easily found on the website and I just like talking! :) Agreed - GS is awesome and if you're into boots at all I'd highly recommend picking up a pair. If you do, feel free to email me (rockymtnstyle@gmail.com) and I can help you with sizing if you want.

    Just ordered the same boot on Grant Stone’s Black Friday sale. I have a pair I bought on EBay in black cxl and love them. I am looking forward to the journey of the natural cxl. Looking forward to your 1 year review. Agree with you on the wedge sole GS uses. Thanks for taking the time and effort.

      @@rockymtnstyleThanks, I got some Pisgah Range paracord laces in a color they call purist coyote. They look really good with some brown cxl kilties I picked up from Dale’s Leatherworks.

    Thanks again for another great video. I agree with your comments regarding best all around boot and how you are defining that around your particular lifestyle. My wife and I have a very similar lifestyle to yours, so the style and build of a Grant Stone or Thursday or Allen Edmonds is exactly what I need to meet most of my daily needs. As much as I would love to have a Nicks or Whites in my collection, I would never use it for its intended purpose and the thought of that much money sitting on my shoe rack collecting dust would really grate on me in time.
    I just received my Ottawa boot in Dune last week my first pair of anything in Dune or Natural CXL. It is quickly becoming my favorite leather (up there with SB Foot Copper R&T) because of it’s incredible pull up and patina potential. I cannot wait to see how these age over time. Again, thanks for this and all your other content. For those of us relatively new to the heritage quality collecting space, your content has been very helpful and eye opening.

      Joseph - thanks a lot for the thorough and thoughtful comment. You hit the nail on the head. I still certainly WANT a very heavily built Nicks/Whites, but I just wouldn't really wear it as often as it deserved. Maybe in the future for a channel feature, but who knows! I'm jealous of your Ottawa! I'd love to add that to the collection. And also, you have wonderful taste! Natural CXL and Copper R&T are probably my top two! I'm picking up a Copper R&T belt from Northstar Leather fairly soon, also.

      @@rockymtnstyle If you’re open to suggestions, I’d lean into your relationship with GS and get your hands on a pair of the Ottawa’s. 1. Nowhere near enough coverage on UA-cam or social media, especially when compared to the Diesel or Brass. Would make a great review for your channel. 2. This boot is way more versatile than I expected. For both my black and this Dune, I expected them to be unable to dress down, but I’ve worn them with everything from business casual to jeans/t-shirt and they look fantastic.

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  10 місяців тому

      Always open to suggestions from you! I had a suspicion they would be very versatile, and I'm glad you think so. And I just did a search and you're right... very little coverage. I'll see what I can do! They have their new Garrison boot coming out this month I think, so we'll see what I can get my hands on.

    I just got my Brass Boot in 10D like my Diesel, Ottawa and Field Boot. They fit fine, but I've noticed I'm having to wear thicker socks or I'll get some heel slip because they're somewhat roomier. Also, they're heavy, heavy boots which contributes to this. I'm still breaking them in so I'm sure this will change when the heal breaks it. Also, the first thing I did was change the laces...tried leather (which are perfect for the diesel boot) but replaced them with paracord because they work best. Cheers.
    Oh, I wasn't a fan of the white wedge sole. I just got a pair or Origin Maine with a black wedge sole (not sure what they call it) but I love the black option so much better.

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  8 місяців тому

      Thx for sharing, Jim! Same experience here... Little roomy at my normal size. I agree with your assessment, I think the slip will go away with the break in. Good suggestion on the laces. I need to quit being lazy and look for some new laces for mine too!
      Interesting on the black wedge sole. Never had one. I like how white looks in general, but not the GS iteration.

    Use the berlutti knot to keep the laves tied. When its time for a resole, have your cobbler put on the wedge sole you like. Ive had the brass in dune for over a year and love it. Wyatt at GS makes some awesome footwear, but have never tried their sneakers.

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks, Nicky! Yeah - everyone who has them and gets them sized right loves them! These in 10-D ended up being a bit roomier than I wanted after even more wear, so I sold them to coworker. On the lookout for the right 9.5-D because I need a Brass in the collection for sure. Sizing down 1/2 size is what I did and may others and they were a bit roomy. Hopefully it works for you!

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  10 місяців тому +1

      Awesome choice! I'll be jealous. Been wanting a Roo boot from them! I think the price increases are inevitable and really I think part of GS business model. The first GS I got was a Diesel in 2021, and they were $340. They are now $380. I think there's a chance we'll see another increase in the next 1-2 years. I'm actually OK with a small raise, if required, I know it's hard on small businesses.... but cutting quality is not acceptable, and thankfully, i'd be really surprised if GS went that route.

    A Coloradan and Grant Stone owner here, great point about the unnecessary of buying "over-built" boots.

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for this comment! Glad you agree. I really appreciate that the overbuilt boots exist and are there for those who need them or want that particular look, but they aren't necessary for most consumers and acting like being overbuilt is a good feature for all is just wrong. Cheers, mate!

    I'd like a pair of Grant Stone's eventually, but torn between the Brass and Diesel (and the Field but don't like the D-rings). Sure you can eventually resole or replace eyelets with speed hook but I'd like something I can wear and be happy with out of the box.
    Not gonna lie, that dune is a really nice color.

      Dune is soooo good. My first pair of "real" boots were in this leather (Thursday Captain in natural chromexcel) and I've been obsessed ever since. You really can't go wrong with either options, just depends if you want the moc toe or a more dressy/versatile look!

    Great video, my friend. Grant Stone is the best value all around. I don't have the Brass yet, will do in the near future; but I do have a couple of Diesel and Ottawa boots, and man are those outstanding boots! The materials, construction, design, fit, and customer service, makes GS the best value for money out there. I have a few other brands, nothing wrong with those, but GS is changing the game, IMO.

    Just got my first pair of Grant Stone a few weeks ago, Brass Boot in Black CXL. Loving them so far, still working on the break in. Looking to snag another pair for Black Friday if they run a sale again this year, unfortunately all the Diesel and Edwards I'd want are showing out of stock in my size currently. Hopefully that changes in the next 2 weeks..

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  9 місяців тому

      Nice first pick up! Black CXL is a classy looking leather. In the 2 years I've been following, they always seem to do 20-25% off of a $400 purchase for their Black Friday sale. Most people either snag 2 pairs or toss in a belt or something to get from $380 to $400 to hit the sale. Hard to say on the restock... they do seem to restock a few styles every 1-2 weeks, so maybe you'll get lucky!

      Oh, cool! Glad you love 'em Caleb! How do you find the sole in person? Do you have experience with a Vibram Christy type of sole? Like I said in the video, not a huge fan of the silhouette but I could be swayed... ;)

      @@rockymtnstyleI was a little on the fence just visually but once I got them in person my mind was totally changed. They are comfy and I believe look great although that’s subjective. My other vibrams have always been the Redwing style and I love that also. @rockymtnstyle  4 місяці тому

      Thanks! Yes - i think you hit the nail on the head. They share a certain casual style that skews toward rugged, but while maintaining a little class! Leather choice can change this a lot of course... but talking smooth to smooth comparison, I'd say this Brass Boot and a Truman on a 79 last are two of the more versatile boots out there for most outfits.

    When you showed the boots on your feet, my first thought was the boots were too big. The crease is definitely emblematic of a boot that is too big. I’ve been considering Grant Stone. I like the backstory of the Chinese tradition. The problem is that the CCP is supported by ALL Chinese business.

    I own a CXL Ottawa from Grant Stone.
    May I ask if my leather boots are suitable for snowy weather? While I have no intentions to get these boots soaked or wet in rain or snow, I want to know if I should wear them in snow.
    For me, stepping on snow does not worry me as I assume the leather sole should be ok, but sometimes streets and sidewalks are treated with snowmelt, which may be bad for the boots.

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  8 місяців тому +1

      Hello! As long as you aren't soaking them, I think it would be mostly OK. The CXL leather is very resistant to moisture since it has so much oil and wax packed in... and the rubber sole is actually pretty grippy. I have dedicated snow boots, but I think these would be OK as long as you are a little bit careful and wipe them off when you can if you are going through snow. :) (Copy-Pasted from the other video where you commented. Hah!)

      If you don't have any moc toes at all, go Brass for sure. And consider sizing down 1/2 size more than you expect. They've been quite roomier than most people expect. Diesel is hard to go wrong with. Just so classic and nicely proportioned.
