    Color #8 is my favorite Grant Stone Boot (Edward). I think it’s dressy enough with the black welt and stained midsole to be worn with a navy suit but also can be dressed down. The Color 8 color develops beautiful highs and lows.

      Took the words out of my mouth. Have the edwards in color 8 and love them...the simplicity makes them dressier than the diesels imo but they also work well with jeans. Vaguely remember my diesels coming with leather laces and the Edward's came with round black which supports the look. Both are great boots but i give the Edward's a slight edge.

    I am continually amazed at the ability amazed at GS’s ability to keep such a wide variety of boots, leathers, and sizes in stock while maintaining extremely high quality. The PNW builders could learn a few things.

      Shoot, Redwing doesn’t keep inventory. I’ve been trying to buy an 8085 without very obvious defects for months now and have pretty much given up. ( the one I returned had a common defect of one toe box being 1/2” wider.) The several times I communicated with their customer service, basically the response was “good luck”. Mind, this is a size they offer. 5-6 Months! I bought a GS Brass boot instead and love it. I also have the Longwing in Dune. That shoe really shows off their craftsmanship. Brogue perfection. 😊

    Just to clarify, the boots are not strictly a 6 inch height. The shaft height ranges from 5-ish in to 6-ish inches I believe. So it depends on what size you get, but essentially the shaft height increases with size for the sake of proportionality. I’m not sure what the height would be with the consideration of the heel as well

    I hopped on Grant Stones recent sale, purchasing the Diesel Earth for a boot I can potentially rough up a bit, and the Diesel Saddle Tan for my first leather sole boot, to keep looking a bit nicer on fairer surfaces. I’ve appreciated your reviews a great deal in making these choices!

    My favorite of their designs is the Ottawa boot, which is basically a Diesel without the moc toe which makes it a bit more balanced. But if I wanted a plain toe I think the Edward looks cleaner overall with the lack of the extra heel seams.

    I totally agree! I think the Edward's simple or clean design really tends more in the dress boot so I de, but so far I didn't see the boot in a leather that makes it justice. I really would like Grand Stone could make the Edward in less exotic leathers or more like dressy type: calf, Cordovan would be awesome, and some curve balls like natural cromaxel, minerva, and maybe Kangaroo? (only because I think they will look interesting and fashionable), and maybe more option on leather soles.
    Thank you for the video.

    Great video, I got the black waxed Edward commander and I really like the loot. I'm not sure I would use it as a dress boot but I do like that it looks less light work boot so I can fit it in casual to business casual clothing. This gives a little more versatility because I can also use the tougher material as a travel boot if I randomly need to do some hiking, lol.

    Hi Teik!
    I really appreciated this video! I have been following your channel for a few months and your videos have taught me so much during my journey into high-quality footwear. I had a question about Dainite-style soles and hope this is an OK place for it.
    So far, my only goodyear-welt footwear is a handful of pairs of Thursdays. I plan to get more Thursdays, but the next brands I try will definitely be Grant Stone and Parkhurst. I have seen you and other folks in the boot community compare the hardness of the proprietary studded soles from Thursday, Grant Stone, and Parkhurst to the original Dainite, generally concluding that all three are softer than Dainite. However, I haven’t seen much comparison between these three proprietary soles, so I was curious what your thoughts are given that you have makeups with all three?
    I don’t have any boots with real Dainite yet, so my only point of reference is the Thursday sole. I find it fairly hard underfoot and I want to avoid curating a collection that is dominated by soles as hard as those. Accordingly, I’m trying to keep my sole types diverse as my collection grows, adding in leather soles, wedge soles, softer lug soles, and whatnot. But due to the popularity of Dainite, many Grant Stone and Parkhurst makeups I am heavily considering are only offered with the studded sole, hence my inquiry.
    Hope you are well and sorry for the huge block of text!

    • @Bootlosophy
      @Bootlosophy  5 місяців тому +1

      Are you asking which ones are hardest? IMO from soft to hard it’s Thursday, Grant Stone, Parkhurst, Dainite - but not so much as you’d notice. Maybe if used a Durometer. Also, two points to consider.
      1. “Softness” under foot is camouflaged by what else is there, leather midsole, poron, sock liner….
      2. Softer outsoles wear out faster.

    Couldn’t agree more with the confusing leather choices on the Edward. I think some calf leather options would be awesome (especially since they don’t use it on too many of their boots).

  • @usmnt4423
    @usmnt4423 5 місяців тому

    That’s a really good point that the Edward feels out of place a bit. Cleaner look doesn’t match casual and exotic leathers, while also not differentiating from the Diesel very much. I still like the way the Loden suede version looks a lot though.

    Planning to get my first GS boots, I really like how they play with the contrast vibes in Edward, sleeker looks but come with rugged leather option likes Dark Oak Roughout or Waxed Tobacco.
    BTW when you mention the quarter in Edward is larger than diesel, does that also mean when you pull/tight the laces, the wings of the boots where the eyelets are place will come together closer than Diesel?
    I saw a lot of photo/reviews (include your reviews), when pull/tight the laces, the Diesel has a nice space between each side of the boots meanwhile Edward has a closer gap and tinier space.
    Thanks!

    • @AdamBrinson
      @AdamBrinson 5 місяців тому +1

      yes, the Edward has less space between the laces than the Diesel when laced up. Just another nod to the "dressier" design of the Edward despite the unusual leather choices. I agree with Teik that it is very odd and a little confusing!

    I own both pairs. I can say the Edward has a tighter instep compare to diesel. I tried to break-in my Edward for a month and it still hurt the top of my foot the instep. The diesel, i have no problem fits perfectly. Can wear it all day.

    • @Bootlosophy

      I think the tightness is because of the larger quarters. They meet closer at the lace facings, so more leather on the instep.
