    Thanks for the video! We are going this summer and it was great to see all the rides and their requirements. One of our children will only be three when we go and I am wondering if Universal does anything like a ride swap for parents so that we don't have to wait in the lines twice for each parent to ride. I hope that makes sense. I heard Disneyland does this but wasn't sure if Universal does. Thanks again for all your helpful videos!

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Рік тому +14

      I totally meant to put this in the video, but spaced on getting any footage for it, so it slipped past me in the editing process.
      Yes, they have rider swap. It’s actually a TON easier at Universal. Everyone waits in line together at Universal, then when you get to the front of the line, the parent and child go to a child swap room which has a TV in it. When the riding group gets off, they go to the Parent Swap room and trade places.
      Now the riding group just gets on right away without having to go through the line all over again, even if it was via Lightning Lane at Disney.

    I’m not sure how universal plans to keep expanding when they’ve pretty much used all the space they have but with the leaked fast n furious coaster they’re clearly using every piece of land to the fullest and I respect the creativity

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Рік тому +9

      They have a nearly infinite amount of space to expand if they really wanted to get creative. They'd just need to build some new sound stages elsewhere and repurpose the ones closest to the existing park rides.
      Additionally, they could eat into a few CityWalk buildings, like the AMC theaters. Disney did away with their AMC. And most people believe theaters to be in decline post-COVID. Not sure how that AMC does as far as sales, but Universal could always buy them out if the price was right.
      Not saying they will, but they aren't quite as landlocked as Disney is given that a large portion of the property there belongs to them, it's just being used for other purposes right now.

      @@SoCalDisneyDadPlus, if Universal Hollywood ever manages to buy the golf course nearby, that space is enough to build a 2nd park. There is truly so much potential for space at Universal.

    Great video . I didn’t realize the Hollywood park was so much smaller than Orlando . I live in South Florida so go a few times a year . I also like that the Orlando parks have several hotels on site so you can stay close to the action 😎😎😎

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, Hollywood only has two hotels that are close, neither affiliated with Universal, aka they aren’t “on-site hotels” in the resort sense.
      I’ve stayed at both though and I recommend the Hilton if you plan to walk to the park.
      That is if you plan to go at all. Watching this video may turn you off the California park. 😂
      A single day is enough to see everything. And I’ve rode all the rides by about 4 PM in the afternoon going at park opening.
      You can kill more time with shows and experiences though. And Super Nintendo World. It’s so busy there you could spend the whole day there because of long lines.

    Universal has changed so much. But for the better. Again, I can't ride a lot of the rides. I wish they still had E.T. that is my all-time favorite ride. At least Orlando has it. The new Mario ride and the Pet one I really want to ride. And love the tram ride.

    We’ve been to Universal Studios in Orlando twice and wanted to see what the one in Hollywood was like. I took the kids last week and we were greatly disappointed. Many of the ride are kiddie rides. There were maybe three rides that were exciting to my teens. We rode every ride in the park (some twice) and were done in 5 hours. This park is 1/4 of the one in Orlando.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  6 місяців тому +2

      I would only classify 2 of the rides as “kiddie rides,” but I will agree that only three that are worthwhile from a thrill standpoint.
      Just because there’s no thrill, though, doesn’t make it a kiddie ride.
      The only kiddie rides are Silly Swirly and Flight of the Hippogriff, and even that one is fine. Silly Swirly being the only true kiddie ride in the little kid land.

    Awesome video, exactly what I was looking for to help plan our trip. I am glad my 6 yo son is 49” and just squeaks in, although he is not a thrill seeker so might not go on a few. Great tip about the Simpsons being crude and terrifying 😂 I’ll make sure my little guy passes on that one.
    I can’t help but pick up on an underwhelmed tone when describing “all 12 rides” and that just added some humour. 🙃

    • @SoCalDisneyDad

      I doubt you’ll need it. But you never know?
      I bought it back in September and rode everything in the park in 4 hours.
      I went with my family beginning of March and didn’t buy it. We rode everything just fine, but it took all day for the most part. Not because of lines. Just because Super Nintendo World takes a lot of time.

However we are flying out on that 3rd day from SNA so we have a bit of a drive and would likely have to leave universal by 5pm to get to the airport. We were planning on doing early entry, biggest thing is I think we will al be super tired after the 2 days at disney and then driving to universal early. Thanks for the video. We were there a month ago for the very first time. It was fun, but we probably won't go again as there are not enough good rides. A agree that Jurassic World was the best ride. We also liked the Harry Potter and Transformers rides, in that order. We didn't do the Mummy ride because our 11 year old daughter with Autism was too scared. The Nintendo Mario Kart ride was a huge disappointment. We had to wait in line for 2 HOURS and then it was just so-so. :-( The Studio tour was good, but it's something that you only need to see once in your lifetime. The Fast & Furious part of it was lame. I thought it was cheesy but my daughter was fine with it. We didn't do any of the rides for younger kids. We had a good time, but probably won't go again. We will stick to Disneyland and California Adventure as they have a lot more rides and other stuff to do.

      I agree that Disneyland is better. But as for the Studio Tour, I go on it every time I visit. Have probably ridden it 6 times now. And it’s different every time. They go different places depending on where filming is taking place to avoid active filming and generally share different things. There’s of course the same main exhibits, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every single time I’ve been on the Studio Tour.

      @SoCalDisneyDad  8 місяців тому

      Express isn’t worth it any time in my opinion, at least of the times I’ve visited (beginning of March, middle of July, beginning of September).
      Every time I’ve gone I haven’t purchased express and I’ve ridden everything in a single day.
      I would say to play it by ear on the day you arrive, and you could check out my rope drop video for some tips maximizing your time if you’re interested.

      Yes. I'm not sure if we were completely upside down, but pretty close. It was a wild "ride" and makes you feel like you are actually flying through the air and going between buildings and stuff because of the big screen video in front of you. Not for the faint of heart. It can make some people feel queasy.

    I’m really upset. Already booked for the end of May, I’m obsessed with rides and I should have done more research. I thought like Florida, Universal Hollywood would have more intense rides than Disney. But theres only one roller coaster. Seems like a waste of money.

      If that were true, I'd be overjoyed. I find the whole Simpson's area to be a bit much. A lot of real estate spent around a theme that's not really kid friendly. Emperor at SeaWorld San Diego has a height max of 78”, so if other rides are similar, you might still be fine.
      The only ones that might be a problem is Harry Potter because of the over the shoulder restraint on forbidden journey and the small coaster Flight of the Hippogriff, because of leg room.

    I went to Universal Amusement park on October 26 and the funnest day with my family the whole 2023 year. I went in all of the rides except Transformers(the line was like estimated 80 minutes wait), one of the Harry Potter rides (didn't have enough time because the park closed early that day for a later Halloween event) and Silly Swirly (wanted to go on but didn't because it looks silly for adult to ride a ride for kids). I thought the Mummy ride was trying to kill me they even had fake cockroaches crawling on the riders in the middle of the ride in the dark pyramid.
