Is The Lion King's Legacy RUINED 30 Years Later...?

- The original Lion King is 30 years old! Wow. And yet somehow, it is still relevant. Breaking records back in the 1990s, and breaking records in the 2010s, it's clear the Lion King as a franchise has quite the interesting history. An underdog story, turned top dog story. But with Disney doing their Disney thing, and clearly making a lot of profit from it. Looking back over the last 30 years for this retrospective, I can't help but ask: Is The Lion King's Legacy RUINED 30 Years Later...? Come see our full thoughts for yourself...

...Symbolic of Disney, all the way through I guess this franchise is.. - Фільми й анімація
Or maybe Mufasa will define the Lion King franchise. What are your thoughts for the quality of that movie?
Will you do a trailer breakdown for Arcane S2 teaser trailer?
It seems interesting and it’s finally giving Mufasa and Scar a backstory. It’s also nice that Keith David will voice Mufasa and Scar’s father.
I think it's going to get dragged through the coals, as far as reviews go. I don't expect it break box office records, but it might do ok financially. Depends on how much people are really put off by the uncanny animation.
It’s funny because it’s already leagues above 2019 by virtue of not being a line for line remake 😂😂 that’s how low the bar is
Lion King is my favourite movie ever and I too some extent see the 'live action' as a huge insult and it kind of makes me like the original more.
Happy 30th Anniversary, Lion King! I don't think that the movie's reputation is ruined, since it still holds up, and is as beloved as ever.
THIS💯💯
The 1994 original is still a classic
@@chasehedges6775And always will be!!!
Preach!
As long as it still exists and can be accessed, its reputation will not be ruined.
The original's legacy is still alive, the new live action stuff ain't canon in my eyes
Exactly. The animated original will always be a classic
Lion King 2 and Lion King 1 and a Half are also decent.
Ikr I HATE the live actions! They ruined everything!

The Lion King remake is just a remake. We can just forget about that one and stick with the original.
💯
Did anyone find it odd that in the 2016 jungle book the animals have facial expressions but the lion king remake doesn’t
The only good thing about the Jungle Book 2016 was Neel Sethi as Mowgli
The animals do have more expressions in that one, for sure
Hell, Aslan the lion in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was way more expressive than all the characters in the Lion King remake, and that movie came out in 2005!!! Plus Disney made that movie, so there’s literally no excuse for the emotionless photo realism in the Lion King remake.
The sad thing is that it was an intentional choice: they wanted the animals to look more "realistic," so they intentionally made them less expressive.
Dang, they *really* messed it up trying to make it “realistic.”
The nostalgia of rewatching lion king is unbeatable
I Totally Agree 💯 Percent!
Absolutely!
The music is so great in lion king. Just thinking about the soundtrack makes me want to watch lion king.
@@SquishyMain I totally Agree with you The Song "Circle of Life" in the very beginning of the Movie makes me Teary Eye and I get Goosebumps When it Plays 🤧
I agree with you guys!
YMS completely debunked the whole "Lion King ripped off of Kimba" thing. Seriously, go watch his video on it, it's incredibly well done!
Yes more people need to watch that video.
I was gonna comment this exact thing. People should watch that video, not just for the debunking of the accused ripoff, but 'cause it's also an amazing lesson in media literacy!
Excited to see Zazu’s origin story in 2029 if this one succeeds.
i will always prefer their 2d hand-drawn expressive motion animation over any of their live actions
I know right the live action sucked
The Lion King's sequels weren't bad tbh
I liked lion king 1994 and simba's pride
@@randomRobloxguy7723 Simba's Pride was really good!
It's only the remake that was bad
@@CSS-Tails_Forever yeah
Not at all.
3:15 - don't you DARE diss Cinderella 3. It was a masterpiece before its time.
That really wasn't a diss, just an acknowledgement that the premise is wild. And it absolutely is.
@@bobi200samatar6 yeah you're right, I just wanted an excuse to praise the masterpiece that is Cinderella 3, however wild its premise is in first glance.
@@greenstarlover1 Yeah, Cinderella 3 is a lot of fun to watch even if it's somewhat cringey in ways.
No, the legacy isn’t ruined, stop clickbaiting. Just because the live action stuff is bad, it doesn’t ruin the original 💀
Somebody didn’t watch YMS kimba video 🥱
Regardless, the 1994 Lion King is the highest grossing animated film of the twentieth century, and at the time I was eight years old. When I first saw the Lion King when it premiered, I was blown away, and I had seen all of the Disney renaissance films in the cinema, I saw this film with my mother, and my cousins, then a second time with my father and my best friend, at school, everyone had seen it too, and the Lion King was a big part of our interactions, then came the merchandising, and I still have some of this 90s merch. As for the Kimba plagiarism controversy, you are wrong Dazz, you are comparing an anime TV series, to a feature length animated film, if you have seen Kimba, you would know it's episodic, story arcs were not yet part of anime, so the themes and plots differ from episode to episode, so it's impossible for the Lion King to do something, not already covered by Kimba, for more information, I recommend watching Adum of YMS, he addresses the causes and the motivations behind the controversy, and debunks the arguments made by the "Kimba Crowd", similarities alone are not enough to prove plagiarism. In summary, Kimba acknowledges but does not honour Africa, the Lion King play homage and honours Africa, I would also like to recommend "Timon and Pumbaa" the Disney afternoon TV show, the Disney renaissance was also on the small screen too.
Maybe Disney could save themselves if they actually listened to people and brought 2d back
Woo, 30 years; 3 whole decades! Let that sink in your head for a few moments. 😅
But I don’t really think that its reputation’s really *tainted,* I’d say it still lives up to its name.
My twin bro said the "live action" version was better than the og animated one 😭😭😭
Must be a really young person 😅
Curious why lol
Dude’s gonna be like “hey wait right here for these wildebeest”
Time to get a new twin.
@@CSS-Tails_Forever nah, we're 21 💀
I like the old version better than the live action
8:20 this has already been debunked very thoroughly by a youtuber called YMS. Kimba fans were just salty
Honestly it’s kinda made me appreciate the original wayyyyy more
I sure hope not.....
Kimba and The Lion King are very different. The only thing that's similar between the two are the fact that the protagonist is a lion. That's it
The original 1994 film is still loved by many, but there are some parts of the franchise that aren't loved by many.
It’ll never be ruined as long as there are people who prefer the original movie and not the garbage remakes. Also, 1993 (the year I was born) called, it wants its 2D animated Disney movie!!!!
One of my favorite memories as a kid was when my parents took me to see Lion King in IMAX. At that point the only IMAX theater was 2 hours away but they figured it was a good enough movie to take my twin sister and me. The rainbow tunnel that lead to the theaters blew all our minds and the massive screen playing the opening blew 6 year old me's mind!
The only thing that could top it was when I fulfilled my childhood dream of seeing the Broadway version in NYC. It was the most beautiful show I have ever seen.
The animated Lion King movie will always be a treasured gem; no amount of terrible live-action remakes can undo that.
🦁❤️
Mmhm
1:18 ok who is editing your video because you're talking about the 1994 film but clips from the lifeless remake are being shown.
It's almost like the Jem and the Holograms movie when people were talking about the cartoon but its suppose to reference the live action film.
No matter what bad things come from a franchise, there's always the original
Happy 30th Anniversary to The Lion King 1994 animated movie! It still hold up to this day! Better than the 2019 Live Action CGI remake from 5 Years Ago released when this film turned 25!
Nobody's going to be rewatching the CGI Lion King when we have that gorgeous animated film.
No matter how many times they remake, redo, sequalize, or franchise the [REDACTED] out of it, the original Lion King remains, to this day, my favorite Disney movie and one of my favorite animated movies, nay, movies in general, ever made. It still stands proud and holds up phenomenally. Happy 30th birthday Lion King. Long Live The King... well... the other king.
I was an infant during the original 1994 theatrical release so I never saw it when it first came out but I did see it on VHS and its 2002 IMAX re-release which was really cool! I'd say the original movie is still beloved all these years later even if the hyper-realistic CG remake and its upcoming prequel are not necessary at all.
When I was younger, I used to hate the lion king cause it seemed like it was the only Disney movie that was playing on tv. Now it’s truly one of my favorite movies 😂.
I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that the team created an original story, but when the story was compared to Hamlet they decided to lean into it. I don't know if that's true or not, it's just what I heard.
I feel like Josh and Keith (and Zach) would get on amazingly with Devin Townsend and I would pay horrific amounts of money to be in that room 😂
This is unrelated, but can you review ultra man rising
A Mufasa origin story is a cool concept, but did they have to make it in live action of all things?
I love remakes but I wish they tried a little harder. It was great except for the lack of emotion
9:47 we worked on a lot of dreamworks movies like megamind and Madagascar 2
Happy 30th Anniversary, Lion King!
It’s funny. Thirty years later Jim Carrey is facing off against a Disney Lion King film again.
They really don't know how to use the charm anymore don't they :/
I've...... never watched The Lion King before LOL It's still interesting to see other people talk about it though
Definitely ruined with the live action mess. Just give us a 2d animation film. Also they about to mess up Moana with a live action as well coming soon. Honestly Disney need to learn to stop being lazy and learn how to make plots.
Lion King has always been my favorite. The live action one…exists. It’s like a straight copy paste of the original so it’s not bad but I wouldn’t pick it over the original any day. I think the new stuff could potentially sour Lion king as a whole for those who didn’t grow up with the original, but it can’t make the original any less fantastic. Also saw the broadway show too and it is indeed awesome. Loved the costumes.
It’s apparently getting a rerelease as well
Lion guard was pretty good for a series I guess.
This sucks
I loved the lion king as a kid
Yes and no
Yes because the live action ruined everything I loved about the original & completely misses the point and effort the originals had
& No because we still have the original The Lion King it's still an amazing movie to rewatch thirty years on the only thing that bugs me is being reminded that the Live action film exists same with the lion guard more garbage Disney made what shouldn't be canon.
Only if you people decide to make this big a deal of it (too late, that's what you guys are already doing), but just because the live-action Mufasa doesn't descend from any kings does not mean the animated one doesn't anymore. Remember, the live-action version and animated version are 2 different realities. For example, Banzai and Ed have different names in the live-action versions, and Timon and Pumbaa have an entire group of animal friends that they didn't have in the animated version. So the continuity of the animated Lion King franchise remains completely untouched. It's not a retcon, it's an alternate reality.
Short answer: no
Long answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Just realized, ive never actually seen this movie
Its kinda funny how the original will be known basically as a masterpiece
And the cgi version will be forgotten in time.
Disney is really reaching on the new one….
Nothing will top the original and 1/2 for me.
I bet that Dinosaur will bring a lot of intrest.
New episodes of Megamind Rules just came out today. Review it ASAP, m'kay.
Who are you? Bill Lumbergh?

The LionKing is okay. IRS not even in my top 5.

The LionKing is overrated. A Goofy Movie is criminally Underrated.
The whole "Lion king ripped of kimba" bs has been debunked many times years ago, even the son of kimbas creator HATES that people think that. YMS made a really good but really long video about it.
The actual lion king movie is still good the new stuff is what's gross and just regurgitated cgi versions of the movies
Kimba
Why do people always act like 2d animation ended umm look at cartoons and actual cartoons not Disney level cartoons and anime
Hi there
I first saw this movie at 3 years old, and even then i knew it was the best fracking movie i have ever seen in my entire life. I love this so much and i feel it was a miracle movie for Disney, they will never make a movie like this ever again. That's just my opinion though.
Also, yeah I'm calling you out, this was a total click bait. This movie's legacy will live on forever til the end of time. No way could it ever, in my mind's eye be ruined by something as superfluous as a stupid live action remake/ spinoff.
It was probably the best movie you ever saw in ur life because u were only 3
Maybe I should have been more specific, I still know it is the best movie I have ever seen, it holds up even more so now. I've rewatched this movie over 200 times. I know all the lines by heart, I know all the song's lyrics word for word. Now, I will admit it's probably not the best movie of all time, but it's pretty close, in my humble opinion.
Also, thanks for your reply. I love discussing and talking about movies, books, etc.
I like Lion King but I do find it overrated so many other Disney movies I'd rather watch
I already thought lion king Turned 30 years old. I do think this movie is a little overrated. Just a Little. This was the first movie Me and My sister saw In theaters cause it Re-released. This is my sister’s favorite Disney film.
Humm why has no-one else commented yet? Actually a lot of people did

Lost me at comparing it to Kimba. Themes and beats are NOT comparable at all. Do some research please.

What a coincidence the video I was just watching previously was the Super Smash Bros Brawl's Final Destination theme.
The kimba thing isn't true at all, and I dont see why the remake would ruin the legacy of the original.
I don’t think so
you didn't even watch the whole video bro
it's the most overrated movie ever and I didn't even like it when I was 8
Happy 30th anniversary to the 2d 1994 Lion King. I can also say that Disney's Bambi's legacy was ruined 55 years ago with Bambi meets Godzilla which no joke traumatised me and its painful to watch imo.
12 minutes ago is crazy
I absolutely loved this movie as a child, and to this day it is my all time favorite animated movie, it forever changed my brain chemistry, The Lion King turned me gay and furry and I thank Disney for that
The live action movies ruined it. Lion King 1 1/2 is still awful. Timon and Pumbaa are the worst.
Mufasa live action movie and the preview showed that disney has no idea what they're doing.
Sorry bu lion king is overrated and im one of those who prefer the sequel simba's pride

bro, who cares? As long as he likes what he's doing, it doesn't matter.

I hate the remake and I HOPE to god that people don’t go see the sequel, because if you’re sick of these awful remakes then go see them in theaters then turn around and shit on it. You are the problem because it keeps telling them that they don’t have to put in any effort and they can continue to use old IP’s forever
