I don't care about this current age of Instagram neo-soul guitar wannabes, BUT Mateus' style is still so beautiful and smooth and pleasant and melodic. He's definitely in a league of his own. His style always inspires me to explore more melodies and chordwork, but sounding like him is definitely a challenge.
How can you not love this guy... bravo!
The video starts out with him posing a hypothetical music theory question, answers it initially with "I don't know..." and tells the viewers [in his own words] that "this isn't going to be very good", and then proceeds to ascend all guitar IQ on the fly. This guy is literally my guitar hero.
He is not just another shredder, he actully has something original and melodic to say.
Govan is great but for me small doses, he reminds me of a supercharged Legato Joe. And like Henson and those guys, very small doses and that’s al I’ll say on that.
If I could ever learn this opening lick I would be satisfied with my guitar playing for life.
As Paul Simon said about Paul McCartney: he’s very musical.

Amazing, totally unique player, and a very likable human being.
Wow, Mateus my favourite for a while now, his taste, his feel is soo good, like the most comfortable feeling ever. He's got an old soul, but a young mind, and these two together some kind of magic.
I really enjoy watching him play, the way he plays things that are difficult and makes them seem so easy to do. I hope he lives a long and blessed life.
I'm very proud to have a great Brazilian guitarist like Assato worldwide recognized !! Bravo Asato!!
Saw Mateus live at Silk Sonic's opening weekend and his solo leading into Blast Off was INSANE. I wish there was a video somewhere
