  • In this film, I locate a Barn Owl parent and chick living in two separate barns in Devon. Follow my journey from first locating the Barn Owls to finally filming the chick and adult hunting. You will learn the photographic and video equipment I use to film the Barn Owls and also my approach to filming the pair of Barn Owls.

      Hi Scott, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I'm pleased you enjoyed the film. Hopefully the last five minutes weren't the only ones you enjoyed but you're right; the sight of the owl hunting in the evening light was a privilege to watch and I was so pleased to be able to share it.

      @@TheDevonOutdoorsman Hi Rich, I should have been more specific in my comments. Your video is very enjoyable and as one with access to Barn Owls where I live I can appreciate the drive and excitement you feel! That being said, in your video from the scenes where the owl is perched in the barn window until the end were especially amazing to me. It was the perfect setting for such a beautiful and magical creature. Thank you for sharing what you see with all of us.

      Thanks so much Scott. Please don't think I was ungrateful or fishing for compliments, my comment wasn't intended in that way. I've fairly recently discovered an old (very) barn that last summer was housing two adults and two chicks. The rather frustrating thing being the adult pair don't come out until dark. This wonderful find is rather tainted however in the Knowledge that the land the old barn is on will soon be turned into a housing estate. Such a great shame but hopefully they'll move on and find new homes. You're so fortunate to get to see them. I could watch and film them for hours.

      @@TheDevonOutdoorsman All is Good Rich, I wasn't thinking that at all. We Barn Owl folks are a special bunch. They'll move on to a new roost I'm sure. It happens in my part of the world too. Keep on enjoying them and hopefully sharing your videos with us.

      Thank you very much, I really appreciate your kind words. I’m putting together the second episode right now and will have it released at the weekend. It’s on Little Egrets. That will then be followed by Kingfisher, Dolphin and Kestrel. 👍

    Great video and it reminded me of myself last spring and summer in trying to get images of a couple of Short Eared Owls and two separate families of Barn Owls. It can be so addictive can't it. The Barn Owl looked surprised when it flew over you and seemed to break in mid air. They always seem to find you don't they no matter how concealed you are. Looking forward to more of your videos.

      I think the owl was completely surprised to see me! I know I was very surprised to see him or her. Thankfully I had my GoPro turned on and in my hand. The weather hadn’t been bad so I was really surprised to see it out that early. They are amazing. I found a new one locally last weekend but it’s only hunting at night. I put my trail cam in an old barn and filmed it a couple of times shooing a Tawny out of the barn. They’re so elusive.

      hi Jamie, thank you so much fr your kind words, it means a grterat deal to know you enjoyed the Owls. You're spot on with saying the Owl was checking me out, we were literally looking at each other straight in the eyes, it was pretty amazing despite it being a quick interaction. Even though I was in the Hide I am pretty certain the youngster and adult knew I was there when I filmed them both. What I wasn't able to show as I couldn't film it was that both Owls landed on the ground within feet of me on multiple occasions and went about their business. Incredible. Thanks again, Rich

    What an experience! I've been trying to find a barn owl near me for a while now, with no luck unfortunately. Are you able to let me know if this is in the south west?

    • @TheDevonOutdoorsman
      @TheDevonOutdoorsman  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Ryan, yes these Barn Owls are local to Devon. I can’t give you precise location as they were on Private land but suffice to say the location is not far from you (if Hackney is your local reserve). They’ve both moved on now and I haven’t seen them since the summer. I know of one on the outskirts of Newton but haven’t seen it yet. Also, the Farmland around the coastal path at Kingswear is a known location.

      @@TheDevonOutdoorsman I did have a location in mind when you showed the church near by. That's a shame that they've now moved on, it would've been great to see them. Do you mind me asking where you mean by the outskirts? I was informed about a barn owl in the fields near passage house/hackney marshes, however I unfortunately didn't see one
