AAAAAHHH THANK YOU SO MUCJ this is the first time I've ever learned a part of a song that wasn't just chords :D this was super fun to learn and im super excited to play it in full soon ...... thank you again
Marty - you're the best! I was looking up this tune to see if I could figure some of it out (now that I'm through Lesson 3 in your Electric Guitar YT series and am practicing far more than 5 mins/day. But here you are teaching it. Yay! Now I'm really stoked for tomorrow's lesson session to get to work on this. It'll be over my head, but keeps me motivated and having fun...because "It's guitar", right? Your singing along with the notes brings joy too. When I'm finding a note which I intend to play, vocalizing that sound aloud keeps me from getting lost on the fretboard. Complicated, but satisfying.
The fun part of the Cure is, their Music goes from Simple to Complex from Song to Song, Robert's song writing and voice really set their music apart from everybody else, I heard them for the first time in '79, I was a Zeppelin Fan in High School, but I also had all the Steely Dan albums. Van Halen was a Local Band and they were HUGE too. My Buddy's and I were cutting class this day, and we stopped at the Asian Market and everybody gave me the Money to go buy the beer,Colt 45 Malt Liquor in Qt. Bottles, I got the beer and we headed off to a "New Guy's" house to party, he had the "Greg Brady" Cool Guy bedroom in the Garage.. we started drinkin' and Smokin' and after we has passed the Bong around numerous times, he turned on his stereo, his older brother that was in College left this 45 of some band out of England on the turntable "Jumpin' someone else's Train" ...we all freaked out how intense that song was plus the drum solo sounding like a train rolling over the sections of rails...then we flipped the 45 over and other side was the Original issue of I'm Cold... we were all blown away again , 6 guys that NEVER would have bought this 45 EVER, and we ALL became HUGE Cure fans after hearing it, every one of us today still Dig on the Cure.
Thats so fucking awesome how you remember so much detail. Im just starting to get into the cure and back into guitar this song is amazing especially how melodic it is
@@nicolasbaroja3814 Dude, there was a whole bunch of events that happened that day, it's hard NOT to remember them in detail...that's how "we live and learn".
Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick The one that makes me scream", she said "The one that makes me laugh", she said And threw her arms around my neck Show me how you do it And I promise you, I promise that I'll run away with you I'll run away with you Spinning on that dizzy edge Kissed her face and kissed her head Dreamed of all the different ways I had to make her glow "Why are you so far away?", she said "Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you That I'm in love with you?" You Soft and only You Lost and lonely You Strange as angels Dancing in the deepest oceans Twisting in the water You're just like a dream You're just like a dream Daylight licked me into shape I must've been asleep for days And moving lips to breathe her name I opened up my eyes And found myself alone, alone Alone above a raging sea That stole the only girl I loved And drowned her deep inside of me You Soft and lonely You Lost and lonely You Just like heaven
Love the Cure so much. The walk down is a little off, instead of going back up to the 5th fret on the b string, it's open b. Other than that, this is great
Marty, you are not a king, you are The Tzar! If you find it interesting I would appreciate a lot to see lesson Rolling Stones - Under My Thumb. I saw some others, but nobody rocks like you do. Maybe we used to see your lessons on the top level and now is hard to see others. 😄 This is my favorite riff.
We added this song to our set a few months ago, popular song with audience, I've been experimenting with using the expression pedal to control the amount of delay on the Katana when switching between rhythm and lead on this.
i was wondering if you could do a lesson on the song Boys don't cry by the cure please. The song reminds me of my childhood and it would be great to learn to play the song!
I love this song. Good after work lesson for a Friday night. I already got most of it down. Thank you again Marty. I grew up with this song back in late middle and high school. Touched the heart strings hearing and playing it. Have a wonderful weekend.
Personally idk why but I favor the Dinosaur Jr. version. Maybe because I like heavier music and fuzzy guitar. Love the Cure and the original is amazing and 100% classic!!
Marty Ive been playing acustic for about 10 months now and I'm starting to think about getting my first electric guitar what would you recommend for a first electric in terms of being able to play a wide variety of genres
Hi marty could you please do a lesson for Fontaines DC - A Lucid Dream. Really good up and coming band and this song really stood out from their Glastonbury set this year. Cheers
Great song, thanks for the lesson. P.S. Marty hacker in the comments offering prizes lol. They seem to get into the comments of all the guitar channels on UA-cam
I really need help as I don't want to give up trying to learn guitar, but without someone to help I just may have to. My problem is that I have small hands. As IamMorrison says if you don't have our tiny sized hands you just can't relate. So a C-Chord is doable for me on 25.5in scale guitar but getting to a different chord is a struggle. Not a serious problem I am just bringing that up. Where my problem lies is my wrist to the tip of my longest finger is 6.5 inches. Hard to make chords. Now here is the one that made me quit for six months as I was in 24x7 pain with a loss of mobility and that is I cannot get calluses. It is a hereditary issue as they begin to grow, and I go to bed one day to wake up to baby soft fingertips again where everything is painful. SO painful that I do bad things, subconsciously, to stop the pain and it hurts my wrist and thumb joints. How can I play the guitar without calluses? I ask because with them the notes ring out more, but when they go back to soft the strings around the touching fingers are dead due to the pudge caused my a soft pressing onto a hard. I do not have Gorilla grip/Kung-Fu death grip as I work hard to not.
I know that's how it is played by the Cure, but what is wrong with hitting those same notes in one position instead of just moving all over the fretboard?
One of my favorite songs… will always remind me of my mother… i learned this song especially for her.
❤️
I think she'd be very proud♥
Coldplay Yellow reminds me of my Mom.
You only get one mom.

literally yesterday i decided to go learn this song bc it’s one of my favorites! marty you read my mind!

"The one that makes me laugh", she said
And threw her arms around my neck
Show me how you do it
And I promise you, I promise that

I'll run away with you

Kissed her face and kissed her head
Dreamed of all the different ways
I had to make her glow

Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely

Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream
You're just like a dream
Daylight licked me into shape
I must've been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone, alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me
You
Soft and lonely
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven
This is a blast from the past. Thanks Marty!
I actually learned this song by ear, especially the cool lead part that plays with the piano.....
EPIC!! I strive to play like this one day, I'm a beginner love this song!!!!!!
Marty you genius (and Robert), thanks for breaking that down
Thank you Marty! I'm so happy to play this song.
Love the Cure so much. The walk down is a little off, instead of going back up to the 5th fret on the b string, it's open b. Other than that, this is great
Yess
Also it's played on 2 strings (with an open e). At least that's how Porl played it.
@@tmage23 good catch, I forgot about that. It's played similar to the main riff from Push.
Top lesson as always Thanks Marty .
