Really cool to see the edge the vram gives the 3060 in the more memory intensive games but just as expected anywhere usage was lower the 2070 had the edge
Well at the time this test was made the 3060 basically had no drivers what so ever while the 2070 had gotten them over the last years.

Not true at all...If you notice neither card hits a Vram usage over 7GB so they both are under their load. Also the 2070 actually never loses out by more than 1 to 2 fps in games like Cyberpunk which is the most demanding game there is.....And most of the time the 2070 beats the 3060 in anything else
@@anthonylong5870 everything is true but the last part the 2070 doesn't really win at all they are about equal but I would get the 3060 just because of having extra vram for future games and in case you ever need it but you probably won't and I have found 3060 cheaper
@@linkinpiatak6669 The 2070 sold for $500 and that "extra" VRAM is basically worthless on a 3060. The 3070 only has 8GB of VRAM and a 3080 only has 10 GB of VRAM. What does that tell you about the 3060 with 12 GB of VRAM? Gimmick?
I own a 2070 to double check if I need an upgrade in the far future just incase. But it seems It can last longer than what I expect.
I do own a Strix 2070 OC and i thi k it could hold still for the next 2 years.

Thanks for actually having ray tracing on in the games that are supported; it's interesting to note that there's not much increase in performance between the gens with RT on, even though 3000 series is advertised as such (x2 apparently). Maybe because DLSS was being used in both cases (cyberpunk & watchdogs).

For anyone interested, I tested the RTX 3060 115w in my laptop against his RDR2 result on the same settings he used and I got 96fps avg. RTX 3060 laptop comes very close to desktop rtx2070/3060, quite impressed.

It's the same with the desktop 3060. They still don't do as well as the 2070, but close enough to it. I'll stick to my 2070 super until the 4000 series comes out.

Happy I didn't "upgrade" to the 3060 from my 2070 Super FE coupled with a 5800x. These frametimes are facts thatprove that newer isn't always better. Sure, the 3070 would kill my 2070, but I'm not paying that cost when I have my $500 2070 that plays most games at ultra above 60 fps.
The smart way is to never upgrade a gpu within 1 to 2 gen to make most of your money
@@zul2788 It depends. My 2070 Super does beyond fine for what I need right now. My only problem is playing any of the Newer Wolfenstein's. Apparently 8gb's of vram isn't high enough for max settings in some parts of the game for some reason, even though it runs perfectly when it lets me play with max settings.

yeah u should wait after 2 gens because I have a gtx 1080ti and still its better than a 3060ti and im not paying over $1000 for a 3080 and prices will go down for it once the 40 series comes out

3060 just got a restock so it's one of the best option in this shortage, and if you get a V2, you will have 12gb vram which is higher than the current average which is fluctuating between 6-8 gb. Performance-wise, 3060 is similar to a 1080ti, capable of ray tracing and dlss 2.0, 12 gb vrams, one of the rare good price gpu atm, well, you got a good choice.

This. This is what I needed. Bought a laptop recently with an i7-10850H 32GB ram 1tb SSD and RTX 2070 for $1,200. Laptops with less specs, but a RTX 3060 are selling for around the same price or more. This shows me that I am good with what I got.

Memory helps here, bandwidth helps there. But overall the performance difference is so slight I doubt anyone would notice in any game if they didn't have an FPS meter running. This is what a generation leap should be at the very least. Everything moving up at least one full step Last gens 70 equalled or beaten by this gens 60 etc.

If you have a gtx card or rx 570/580 or even an rtx2060, upgrading to rtx 3060 makes sense. (If you can find one though at a decent price)
But if you own a 2060 super or 2070 or 2070s, with rtx 3060's performance and current pricing, it is not worth upgrading.

I wonder why the 2070 in your test only clocks around 1900 MHz. The KFA2 I use clocks at 2000 to 2100 all the time and I don't even over clock it. Maybe it's over clocked by the manufacturer, but from where I stand, 1900 MHz GPU core seems kinda low.

@@Ford.Prefect many brands overclocks their gpu, for an example the most overclocked gpu you can take usually is the MSI Gaming X Trio. note that in that case, the gaming x trio is the most overclocked AND stable
my 2070 super fe plays almost every game with max settings, usually with RT on w/o overclocking. I'm sure I can get more out of it, but I really don't need to + my room is hot as hell so it wouldn't help matters. I'll worry about clocks when I can only play a game at low settings.

I'm trying to choose a laptop. MSI GP66 Leopard seems really cool with the 3060, but I'm seing other laptops for the same price (like the Asus Rog G512LW or the Predator Triton 300) with the 2070. I don't know what to do ahahah. Any recommendations?

Laptop gpus domt have the same performance as the normal cards, because of lower clock speeds to reduce temperature levels. You should specifically check laptop gpu benchmarks
Although late, I'd grab the 3060, I believe it has more vram.

I'm beginning to think my particular RTX 2070 just has a very rubbish cooler. Even with a frame rate cap and image scaling it can still shoot all the way up to nearly 81c on newer games. Yet here this one is stabilizing at 60.
Good thing I plant o get an RTX 3070ti in a few weeks. That one should hopefully be much better, and not just in the cooling department.

The performance jump was pretty insane with 30 series GPUs. Very similar to the 10 series jump over 9 series GPUs.
I expected the 3060 to be identical or slightly faster than the 2080
Like how the 1060 was faster than the 980
It really seemed like they were going to follow that pattern since the 3070 is identical to a 2080 ti like the 1070 was to the 980 ti
This performance is what I expected the 3050 ti to be.
Now who knows where that card will be placed. Wouldn't be surprised if it performs the same as this card but later released at a slightly lower price
I knew it, I made the decision in holding off on the 3000 series and sticking with my RTX 2070, I'm still able to play modern games, albeit adjusted settings but still on high.
Wait till 5000 series at least.

@Dragonsong 1080ti actually barely outperforms a normal 3060 on heavier titles, with about a 5-8%gap, price to performance wise the 1080ti isnt great and its better to just buy a 3070 which has dlss and rtx. at around the same price point

My super rtx 2070 super compensate for the cpu when it comes to performance basically. I should be getting the same fps
My cpu is running at stock settings. There is some ipc improvement in 3600 vs. 2600. I am getting 100 fps with ryzen 2600 at stock settings and 108 fps with 4.1ghz oc.

So, Whats the problem? 2600 can give 100-110 avg fps in warzone. low or high setting does not matter.

Yes it's the standard RTX 2070, I have the EVGA XC Ultra version of it which comes factory overclocked, and I pushed it even further with my own overclock and gets abit more than this

Just buy a 2k monitor :))
Two ways... #1... hook it up to a 1080p monitor, run tests... then hook it up to a 1440p monitor, run tests. Or the more-likely scenario #2... have a high-res monitor (1440p or 4k) run the test at 1440p, then lower the resolution of the monitor to 1080p, run tests. (the GPU will run at whatever resolution your monitor is set to, not the other way around).
does anyone know if a i7-10750H - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 - 1TB laptop will run vr well? I have a quest 2 and wanted to play bone works on my laptop but it is very laggy so i wanted to upgrade but idk. its 1800 I dont wanna make a mistake (not a tech guy dont hate me.....)

@@NakataLTU in that case go for the 3060 (all else being equal), unless you find a decent discount on a 2070 laptop. In my region most "budget" 3060s are priced at about $1700-$1800, so a good 2070 laptop (reasonable CPU, RAM, etc) discounted for $1400-1500 is a good buy since you'd be getting very similar performance to the 3060.

I barely see the difference. I have an Asus ROG 2070 and it looks like it just as good as a RTX 3060. Not worth paying more money for the same performance.

The only reason to get a 3060 is for the vram increase, however the price vs a 2060 super is like £50-£100 used, so 2060 super wins everytime

В PS 5 стоит по сути 2070. Так что у тебя пойдут все игры следующего поколения т.к. их в любом случае будут оптимизировать под консоли. Ещё лет на 5-6 хватит.

@@velmanski from what I saw its way more than 10% increase! Isint a 3070 like a 2080ti?! Edit: So i just check and its a good 20 to 30 % higher fps in lots of benchmark I checked. Well worth to get that little edge im missing to have smooth CP77 in glorious 3440x1400p :D
3060 is a bit better performance in July 2021 , specially with Resizable Bar on is like a 2070 Super . This test was done with the 1st drivers of March . But obviously if you already have 2070 wait for a 3070 or 3070TI instead 3060 .
3090 is oout for like 2500 😅😅🤣 that’s a 24gb, if you can afford one that is. It’s nice to see that my 2070rtx is still kicking butt got mines like 2018 i think they are still like 700-800 ish. I wanted to upgrade, but it’s still awesome at to this point.
2060S and 2070 are basically the same as 3060. 3070 is a big jump, being very similar to 2080ti in performance.

@@MarkEffect3 DLSS 2.0 runs on the 2000 series cards, it's the 3rd generation of Tensor cores on the 3000 series compared to the 2nd generation Tensor cores on 2000 series that make up the difference not the version of DLSS

@@sma2981 I dont need to search in webs , i have both ... 3060 is way better than 2070 in FPS with and without Ray Tracing on , specially when you enable Resizable Bar and DLSS 2.0 . 2070 Super is the equivalent atm . Webs doing benchmarks in release was all outdated . Just look for videos of benchmarks did in April or last days of March . I would even upload one myself some day .

Vega and 2060 are old cards, but Vega is the less overcharging in your list
