My Uncle Jim was there that day God rest his soul he died of cancer 20 years later he was a new york city firefighter he risked his life trying to pull people out the rubble he was a fucking Hero
I was riding in the car with my mom, on the way to school. We were on Rodeo Street, coming from Pritchett, when the music stopped on the radio and the station said the World Trade Center was hit by a plane. I had no clue what the World Trade Center was... and didn't even care. I wanted to listen to music, and I turned the station. I don't remember what I had 1st period.. but I do remember the buzz in the atmosphere about everything. Still not understanding the gravity of the situation. I do however remember 2nd period. I was in Mr. Haggard's history class. The lone sophomore in a junior class. Mr. Haggard brought in a television, but it wasn't turned on to the news of the outside world. He was trying to teach. But he was distracted. Almost frantic. Then, he'd leave the room. We would turn on the TV while he was away, and see pieces of what was happening. A replay of the 2nd plane hitting and the collapse of the south tower, hearing that the Pentagon was hit, and another plane crashed somewhere in Pennsylvania, live footage of the disaster and chaos, speechless and dumbstruck newscasters, speculating and wondering. And then, Mr. Haggard would return, and the news would be turned off, and he'd attempt to teach us all over again. He left the room several times. It wasn't until the last time he left, and didn't return, and we were ushered into the history class next door, that we learned Mr. Haggard's son worked in New York, just below the World Trade Centers. Mr. Haggard kept coming back to class, trying to teach us, because he wanted to stay busy until he got word his son was safe. I don't remember the details (whether he hadn't got to the office yet, or his office was far enough away from ground zero that he was able to evacuate safely) but thankfully, at the end of the day, his son was okay. I remember being in the history classroom next door, watching the news coverage, when the north tower fell, on live TV, right in front of our eyes. It wasn't a replay of something that had already happened. It wasn't a movie. It wasn't a nightmare. It was happening, in realtime, and in our faces. I can remember feeling like my stomach had dropped, as if I was on a roller coaster. I remember my mouth started watering uncontrollably, like it does just before vomiting. I remember the knot that formed instantly in my throat. I remember covering my mouth with my hand (whether it was to prevent getting sick, or just reflex from shock, I don't know). I remember tears falling from my eyes immediately, with no warning whatsoever. I remember the gasps and voices in the room around me. I remember silently praying to God, a jumbled prayer of who knows what. I don't remember much else about the school day after that, but I assume it was mostly watching and talking about everything that was happening. I do remember, in 8th period spanish, Mrs. Auvil said we were going to turn the TV off and have class. That the people behind the attacks took enough away from us already, or something along those lines, and we were going to finish the day the way we were suppose to. Eventually someone had convinced her that this was going to be a part of our history, and we SHOULD be watching, and she caved. I remember watching the news that evening at home, and for weeks following. Hearing more and more details of the lives lost, the people responsible, the families directly affected by such an evil act of terrorism. In the years since, I've read books upon books of stories told by those who lived to tell them. I've watched countless documentaries, and movies based on the event. I've listened to hours and hours worth of interviews from survivors, and recorded phone calls from the victims, to their families or emergency services, made in the last few minutes of their lives. 9/11 is a day I will never forget. It was a day full of sorrow and pain, heroism and bravery. It was a day that Americans silently came together, and stood proudly as a whole. It didn't matter if we were young or old; fat or skinny; gay or straight; red, yellow, black, or white; sickly or healthy; Democrat or Republican; christian or atheist; or absolutely anything in between. On that tragically beautiful Tuesday in September, we were One Nation. I'll never forget. 🇺🇸
I was a police officer on my way to work when the 2nd plane hit the towers in New York. That day changed everything forever. It brought Americans closer together. I wish we could come close like that again. God Bless our Soldiers and our members of the military, our law enforcement and our fire fighters/first responders! Godspeed!

Living in Western Canada, I was making breakfast for my young daughters when my sister called. I didn’t understand or was aware of the impact this would have on the entire world. So heart breaking

Country music isn’t popular in New York City. However, a popular radio station played it 2 months after 9/11 and it brought me to tears. It’s a true American masterpiece.
I think this song aged really well in a way that Alan never thought about. In this video he’s got a voice that’s 20 years older, we’ve all seen two decades/two wars, and now the song is no longer about 9-11…it’s about 9-12. It reminds us that for a moment in time we were all Americans and we would do well to recapture that sense of our country
Having been in NYC on 9/11 this song brings me to tears, watching as the towers came down, walking through the dust on my way to a boost to leave the city to go home. Alan brings me to tears
I remember this song. When I went to prison and I was at school they would play music videos while we were working on our work and this is one of the songs but I could swear it was a different version of it.
This has to be the most beautiful song of the past 100 years, brilliantly written true story performed as only Alan Jackson can do! My memories 20 years on only reinforce how powerful this piece is!

I’m Canadian, and I know as a fact, everyone who was alive on that day and who was old enough to understand what was happening, can forever remember where/what they were doing on that single day. I was 11 years old, and I remember it like yesterday.
The fact that 20 years ago brave men were running into the towers as they collapsed, demonstated to the world and the nation that the greatest thing they had was faith hope and love!
Was at work listening to the broad cast and hard to figure until I got home and watched it air again. Oh the shock of disbelief in what was going on in our world.
This takes me right back there. Thanks for writing the most appropriate song for that day, Alan. Still holds true 20 years later. You’ve captured so many of the feelings we all had and have.
I don't mean to make light of 9-11 because those poor people went through Hell. I'd never do that but the name of this song has a new meaning to me. My daddy died right in front of me on September 4th 2021. Every time this song comes up on my UA-cam, i think.. I was sitting there waiting for the hospital to release my dad after double bypass surgery. He was ready to go home and he just died. All the doctors and nurses couldn't save him and believe me, they tried. I'll never hear this song again without thinking of that awful September day.
Into thousand and one I was a freshman when two planes hit the World Trade Center. We stayed in our classes in high school listening to on the radio what was going on in the TV as well till Tuesday I will never forget 911 God bless those soldiers fire department, police department, including the people that are in the world trade center every year when September 11 comes around the only thing I just do I just smile the only thing you can do. God bless stay safe out there and keep your kids safe.
No matter how many times he sings it, no matter the audience...no matter the occasion...the emotion is always there. This is our anthem for that day...the most powerful song probably ever written.
Alan Jackson, a true American icon. Congratulations to you, for fulfilling your God given talents. There's no doubt in my mind that God has visited you. Never forget from whom you received the gifts. You have touched millions, with your simple songs. May God continue to bless you and yours!
God has given you alot of 😍 love to share with another heart ♥ that has love for you too cuz the most precious thing that God gave you is LOVE the greatest is love and you have it forever.
I was in the 2nd grade I wasn't really sure what was going on on account of how old I was but once I got older I knew what happened and that'll day it'll always be in my heart and that's why I'm going on 5 years of being a fiirefighter
9th grade, 2nd period, sitting in our Manchester building for American History class. Teacher comes to the door and taps on the window. Tells the teacher something and he closes the door and locks it. Then the tv comes on. Remember it like yesterday! 23 years later this song still hits the heart strings!
I'll never forget. I was loading mail to start my route. I had the radio on and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I ran back into the PO and asked my boss, did you hear? My heart still hurts today. God bless America, and thank you to our heroes.
I was a child at the time, in school.... I remember the fear. I live in NY. I remember sitting in a gym, hiding out as we all watched the adults and older kids cry. I remember a teacher asking the principle if we would survive. I learned years later that a local and highly iconic company that was considered an American symbol was a target.... as was a reactor not far from were I live. But the brave folks on the plan that fought back and crashed in Pennsylvania saved thousands that day. Everyday, I thank them for saving the innocent children and adults that huddled and waited for clearance to go home and hug their families. NEVER FORGET
I was on my way to Manhattan. Saw the smoke from the F train (1st plane). When I got off the train and reached the street it was absolute chaos and I was all the way uptown. Second plane had already struck. Had to walk home with a million people over the Queensboro bridge hearing jets zipping by above. At the time about 2pm we didn't know if they were our jets or if we were still being attacked.
From Kansas here, we haven't forgotten, I remember like it was yesterday, hard to believe it's going to be twenty years! Thank you Alan Jackson for that song.
The best performance besides the Grammys he did. He meant this. He is the perfect artist for this song, thank God for this song, it helped unify a nation and heal those who were grieving. I always listen to this at the time of the last tower fell, I break down every time, the way he sings this is perfect.
I remember watching when he performed this for the very first time at the AMA or AMCA awards show... 20yrs later and his voice and message is just as strong as it was back then. Many songs came out after 9/11.. but this one in my opinion is by far the best. I think everyone that was old enough when this happened, knows exactly where they were when the world stopped turning on that September day.. God Bless America & God Bless all the lives that were lost and continue to pass away due to the after effects, and God Bless ALL the workers and survivors.
Oh my God I love this song alan Jackson is such a great singer I cried through this whole song my heart goes to all of the families that lost love ones 💔
Special special song. Was in Germany on 9/11. The locals invited us visiting Americans outside the next day. We stood outside in a circle holding hands and weeping. What a horrible day and this song captures it as well as any. Also love "Superman" by Five for Fighting as that song kinda sorta became the FDNY theme. Thanks Alan
Yes I agree with u I can feel the emotion in his voice and 20 yrs ago today I started my job at the goodwill store here in hastings, nebr but ik tht every single tv was on tht morning and it was quite shocking and as the song goes where were u when the world stopped turning on tht September day !??
God Bless all of you lovely people. Twenty years... To those who have served and those who are still serving today, God Bless. I will always respect all of you because you can do what I cannot. To those who have lost any loved ones in all that time, God Bless all of you. Prayers be with all of you. We Will Always Remember.
I was at home with my wife we just got our son on the bus, after the 2nd plane hit i went to the school and got son out of school knowing we was under attack. The days that followed was weird not seeing one plane flying, i still today stop and watch planes when there's one flying. above. Sad day.
Love is the greatest thing we have and we don’t move in love. Why does it take tragedy in order for us to feel compassion and love in a meaningful way, to connect like humans are made to?

Alan Jackson, a true American icon. Congratulations to you, for fulfilling your God given talents. There's no doubt in my mind that God has visited you. Never forget from whom you received the gifts. You have touched millions, with your simple songs. May God continue to bless you and yours!
What a beautiful voice, this joy I feel here only grows more because I love you so much, kisses my baby ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Still a powerful song, all these years later. We will never forget those that lost their lives that day. We can't forget..
Speak for yourself
Where were you when they built the ladder to heaven
Great performance last night and as always. God bless America 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

🙏♥️🙏
God has given you alot of 😍 love to share with another heart ♥ that has love for you too cuz the most precious thing that God gave you is LOVE the greatest is love and you have it forever.
This is how songs are supposed to be written.
I was in the 2nd grade I wasn't really sure what was going on on account of how old I was but once I got older I knew what happened and that'll day it'll always be in my heart and that's why I'm going on 5 years of being a fiirefighter
He is a Hero.
Beautiful song! Fantastic country music! Thanks Dear Alan!
You are the best Alan.
Yeah, sure.
I never watch the CMA’s but for some reason I watched 20 years ago when Mr. Jackson first performed this song. Thank you Mr. Jackson.
To this day, I wished I was still a Vol. Fireman to help those whom we lost and still do. Many survivors suffer mental and physical issues help them.
My favorite Alan Jackson song of an time
Someday was a great song you are so good my sister likes your songs
Legend

From Kansas here, we haven't forgotten, I remember like it was yesterday, hard to believe it's going to be twenty years! Thank you Alan Jackson for that song.
The best performance besides the Grammys he did. He meant this. He is the perfect artist for this song, thank God for this song, it helped unify a nation and heal those who were grieving. I always listen to this at the time of the last tower fell, I break down every time, the way he sings this is perfect.
Thank You for our remembrance. I was getting ready to go to work in Texas. I am remembering all that were lost today. May God keep you in his arms.
In just 100 days we’ll be at the 20th anniversary of the attacks
Thanks for the love and support God bless you. ❤️

What Amazing performance, Speechless !
It gives me chills every time I hear him play the song.
Ladder to heaven
Me too!
Amen, and I agree!!! Sending hugs and love from Mississippi!
Your so right the greatest thing that he gave us is love 😍. Such a beautiful song and full of meaningful words and memories.
Hello how are you? So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song
Oh my God I love this song alan Jackson is such a great singer I cried through this whole song my heart goes to all of the families that lost love ones 💔
I can’t hear this without crying or almost crying
I was a senior in high school, they took us to the auditorium as the 2nd plane hit, the next year I joined the military 💪
Whoever disliked this.. May you find peace in whatever troubles you.
Special special song. Was in Germany on 9/11. The locals invited us visiting Americans outside the next day. We stood
outside in a circle holding hands and weeping. What a horrible day and this song captures it as well as any. Also love
"Superman" by Five for Fighting as that song kinda sorta became the FDNY theme. Thanks Alan
This is the most beautiful song Alan has ever performed. Everyone feels this in their 💕
Yes I agree with u I can feel the emotion in his voice and 20 yrs ago today I started my job at the goodwill store here in hastings, nebr but ik tht every single tv was on tht morning and it was quite shocking and as the song goes where were u when the world stopped turning on tht September day !??
Listening to this and love it as it makes you appreciate what you have and not take for granted. This awesome guy brings this out. Right?
Absolutely beautiful ! ! Sings about what all Americans went through after we were attacked on our homeland.
The days that followed was weird not seeing one plane flying, i still today stop and watch planes when there's one flying. above. Sad day.
How can anybody not like this video?
Love you 🤟🤟
God Bless America.

This is truly an emotional song Alan's voice sounds so good and you can fill the words as he sings.
God bless Alan Jackson for giving us this song. I was on the front lines in America that day....onboard the first warship off of NYC
It's a day I'll never forget.
Love is the greatest thing we have and we don’t move in love. Why does it take tragedy in order for us to feel compassion and love in a meaningful way, to connect like humans are made to?
We will never forget. Always remember God Bless America🇺🇸
