This takes me back. I lived in San Diego county for 23 years and drove to Seattle and back most years to see family. Once I got back to LA I was on tenterhooks all the way home due to traffic. You must have done this drive early on a Sunday! Anyway, it’s a lovely place I’ll never be able to afford living in again. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Native Sounthern Californian here and still lives here. My wife is a bartender on the weekends in DTLA. It intrigues me that so many are fasinated with this video of LA and San Diego . While I have a strong fascination with the greater Chicago area and all of the great lakes. Someday I will visit the greater Chicago area. I've been to Minnesota and I absolutely love the beauty if that state.
As someone who lives in a small city in eastern ny and has never been to Los Angeles you cant understand how beautiful this looks to me. it looks like heaven on earth, especially with one of those cloudless sunny days....to see the sun shimmering off palm trees, and well manicured suburban areas....even if I was poor...if I was living in the areas I see in this video I suspect it would make it worth it somehow
I'm afraid you wouldn't enjoy it beeing poor, especially in this area full of very rich people. A small city in eastern ny sounds nicer even with less sunshine.
This video brought back sweet memories, of when we flew from Des Moines, Iowa to San Diego, in February few years ago. We took off during a snowstorm and we landed in paradise. Great city, amazing vibes, we wanted to move there but housing was so expensive.
Spent quite some years during my 20s in LA. To be honest, I didn't really like living there at that time, but watching this video reminds me of my younger years that I miss so much now and it's also good to see that LA is growing. Thank you for your video.
The STAR of INDIA is a hometown landmark in San Diego When I was young, San Diego had a Tuna Boat fleet along the Embarcadero I also remember crossing on the Car Ferries before the bridge to Coronado was even possible ~ Good to see it again, I live far from there now
As someone from Berlin, Germany; LA and southern California always had a magical fascination on me. The vibes i´m getting from this video are insane. Do i want to live there? Probably not, but visit and chill for some weeks and explore, 10000%. Thanks for the video.
German here. I also did a trip from LA to San Diego once, but the more scenic route down the 5, via Carlsbad. Takes longer, but it‘s worth it. Still a nice video, because perfect weather and for me it had different parts of both cities to see.
My great-grandmother lived in Carlsbad. This video reminds me of going to visit her as a kid (also the drive back at night was where I learned to drive on the freeway when I had my learner's permit 😂)
Thanks for the video. I live in Nigeria now but was in the USA for 33 years. I worked at Bank of America on both Beaudry and Hope Street. It was nice following your drive down 5 south.
@@DS-tr6xn When I worked in Germany my ex-boss (German, of course) regularly convene near Ulm and we had about a 250 miles round trip and he'd regularly drive 220kmh on the Autobahn like there's no tomorrow. On another occasion I had a (german) coworker who would drive pedal to the medal in the company Passat regardless of the weather conditions. Kind'a glad I'm still alive.
I’ve always wanted to visit California like Northern California it’s definitely beautiful Los Angeles and San Diego are both on my bucket list. Hopefully in the foreseeable future
Thank you for driving around downtown LA. Had not seen a lot of those streets since the 1980's and 1990's. Sketchy as hell back then but I think I prefer the old LA downtown. At least it looked and felt like LA. Not Anywhere Big City. You start your drive in somewhere that looks very LA and once you get on the 101 its back to LA again. But downtown, could be anywhere. Any big city downtown. Never drove the Santa Ana Freeway but drove many miles on the San Diego Freeway, the Hollywood Freeway, the Santa Monica Freeway, the Golden State Freeway... As for LA traffic. Its always been bad. Rush hour, accidents, road construction etc. At least nowadays you dont have to listen to live traffic reports on KNX 1070 to work out the best freeway route or if its time to bail and head for surface streets. There's an app for that.
I came from Scotland ten years ago to work in Newport Beach and drove the I-5 daily. Cloudless skies every day, beaches were lovely and it was an amazing place to live but was just too expensive for me, so left after one year.
Where the video first begins with view of DTLA is right where I lived from 2020-23. I liked that neighborhood, up on the hill there's much less crime & almost no crackheads. Many good times there, and you'll also see peacocks roaming around too haha. I haven't been there in a year so it was neat to see my old street again.
I watched this to feel at home, I lived in Little Italy, and once you go under the 8 interchange, you are in "the city of San Diego" I lived on Beech and State street in Little Italy. It's home, I just don't live there right now. Great video though!
People in Germany who want to fly to USA for vacation always want to see NY and Los Angeles. In my opinion they should rather try to check out San Diego which is a so much better city than Los Angeles!

I visited LA about 10 years ago with a hire car. I hated it and could not wait to drive up the coast and see SF. Living in Australia nothing would get me to go there again.
People (mostly UA-cam comment sections) always talk about how California is going to shit. Looks pretty good to me. Also, downtown LA really does look exactly like GTAV.
People tend to forget that California isn’t the only state with bad parts idk why we’re the punching bag for it when Florida or Texas have their own problems, at least we don’t get monster hurricanes and tornadoes here 😂
It's fr people who don't live here or influencers that say everyone is fake. Idk where these ppl go but true LA and California natives are chill. California can have alot of things right and never gets praised for it but it always gets hated on the things they have wrong. They always point out skid road like if Los Angeles is the only city in America that has bad sides to a city. Not to mention that alot of homeless people are sent from other states here. They literally get dump here and make it our problem. But nobody brings that up, they just blame California for it. Obviously our homeless population will increase if they keep that up. I use to work with homeless ppl at a clinic from 2021 to the beginning of the year and about 20% were actually from California. That isn't to say it applies to the whole state but just a thought, what are the stats in other places? Similarly, my brother use to work at a movie theater in Hollywood and at the time, he was the only person from California, everyone else was from a different state. If you experience a bad interaction with someone here, they are most likely not actually from here.
Hello Frequent Driver! Such an amazing and relaxing video! I'm from Costa Rica and one day (might even take me years to do it hahaha) I want to do a whole trip from San Diego to Seattle in 15 days How much money do you think it is necessary for this trip? Thinking of 5 days per state (California, Oregon, and Washington) Greetings!
Thank you for watching! That would be a great trip, west coast drive is amazing. Since California is so large, I would probably divide it in 4 parts: Southern California, Northern California, Oregon, Washington. Also, if possible, continuing north into Canada - Sea-to-Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler has spectacular views - about 4-hour drive from Seattle.

San Clemente is where I call home, and it is paradise! I'm very grateful to live here.
I picture myself driving this route, between 6pm and 8pm in the summer, blasting some 80's sythwave in the radio
