Making regular sized gushers with this recipe seems like an exercise in frustration, however.... it opens the door to golf ball sized gushers, something I am pretty sure I need. 🤩

Yeah you could tell when she was using plastic molds for this instead of corn starch molds.
confectioners don't mass produce things either, so it's not a fair thing to ask, gushers are not very fancy but they are very difficult/complicated to make without the tools that are used in the original process.
i feel like every time someone there opens the fridge and sees something weird they go "ah, a squash with straws. claire's at it again."

That's pretty easy, actually, you just make a wheat flour dumpling with pizza filling, and deep fry it briefly. You could even use store bought eggroll wrappers for the dough.

I feel like that wouldn't be much of a challenge. The chips are just regular corn chips and so the whole episode would be just her making various seasonings.
You can just make corn chips and just add cheese dust to them or ranch seasoning which both are not hard to make from scratch

Suggestion: put popcorn seed in the middle of each mold then put into the freezer. That way you can pop it out and you'll have a hollow center.

If you had a custom mold made where the center protrudes to create the gap you need for filling, then that might be more ideal. I wonder what would happen if you took out the trays half way through cooling and pressed marbles down onto the center and finished cooling. Just a couple of suggestions to play with to avoid having to scrape out the centers. oh. Also I wondered what would happen if you had a syringe or straw that you pressed the two halves onto, leaving a gap around the tube so that you could just press, fill, and extract the tube.
It looked like the bottoms of the molds were shaped perfectly for this. If one were to take a second mold and press it on top of the first mold, it should create the hollow center. No custom mold needed.
No wonder gushers are the most expensive fruit snack on the isle...

Once pouring into molds you could’ve put an extra mold on top so that they have a hollow center into the same shape!
I was thinking that as well. She could use something small to work as a spacer since she needed the holes to be a certain depth. But yes, an extra mold on top would have created a divot for her on each jewel without having to scoop them all out manually.
