Hi Again, I forgot to add on my last comment, that if anyone wants to check more of these Funky Meters tunes out, may I suggest...Cissy Strut...Funkify Your Life...Fire on the Bayou...People Say and last if not least, Look-Ka Py Py. And thank you again Greg for highlighting such an iconic bassist and showing guys how to dive in and play this great genre of music.
I'm just going to have to make more Meters lessons! I've had Cissy Strut on the back-burner for a while. Use to play that a lot with one of my bands down a late night venue on Denmark Street in London.
Hi Greg, many thanks for your reply, fully agree you look and play so comfortable while you groove on them Funky tunes, it does shine through!! Like adding those ghost notes in the Bridge section, so natural to you. I love Cissy Strut and People Say such an iconic band and such a history behind them. Loving the new camera by the way!! Keep Groovin’ Bryn
Cheers Ruth. The main riff is really fun to play. Thanks for the coffee again - you're helping to keep me in full supply of beans for the machine at home!
Hi Greg, super cool funky lines going on, and well taught!! Love the ghost notes you were playing in the bridge section. I believe that George Porter Jr, the Neville brothers and a funky drummer that had the strangest name I've ever heard, something like Zootaboo ? started the Meters off and are hailed as the forerunners, if not the inventors, of Funk. Porter is in short a Legend (capital L), and is still grooving!! These guys influenced a range of bands and players, in there earlier recordings you can almost hear/imagine Nile Rogers, Bernard Edwards and Funkadelic coming up from the background. This is a lovely little groove and will surely test ones timing, awesome choice Greg...thank you. keep Groovin' Bryn
Brilliant Bryn, loads of useful information in your comment. I think you'll enjoy my play-through video of this bass line on Monday. I have a little jam at the end with some of my own ideas! This really is fun to play isn't it and got to say that Funk really influenced my playing style and I have to sometimes reign in the funkiness when playing other styles! 😂
Zigaboo Modeliste of New Orleans, and Geo Porter is still funking away at clubs and fesitals. Great lesson, Greg and my P-Bass is a short scale fashioned after George's blonde on blonde. Cheers!
Hi Les, nearly got Zigaboo’s name right, thanks!! Loving your short scale P bass, you must be a fan of the legend that is George Porter Jr. Keep those strings busy. Take care and keep Groovin’ Bryn
Greg , another well presented and delivered lesson . I found it so easy to play along with you ( relaxed , no nerves 😂 ) , Many thanks !
Thanks Gary, really glad you enjoyed it and felt relaxed. That’s the name of the game! 😀

@@leshoffman4959 interesting sounding bass. So does it have the tradition single ‘Tele’ pickup and what’s the scale length?
@@leshoffman4959 great stuff. Even I could put that together 😂
love the rhythm
It’s really satisfying to play isn’t it! Lots of space around beat 1.
