Hey, its epic how this car was destined for scrapping in couple of years but is nor ready for paint. Congrats on the brilliant work! Quick question: Dinitrol ML everywhere underneath, followed by 4941 on everything but wheel wells where you go with 445 ? Or you can go 445 on the whole underside and 4941 over it? Here on the 914 you went with something over the black stuff on the floor for a second pass and i got mixed up. I am restoring a manta gsi and went for Dinitrol thanks to your channel! :)
Love you guys and the amazing skilled work! Please look after yourself and wear a respirator when spraying. From the Dinitrol spec sheet: "May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure"
Awesome job guys. Great colour choice by Tim too, I love the bright colours of the earlier 60/70/80s Porsches. Can't wait to see the progress. WELL DONE!
Thank you for showing all that is needed for a major restauration. And essentially upgrades like seamsealing. Such a satisfying video. Thank you. Maybe you could in the end make a list of all upgrades that were made compared how the original car was manufactured (Like zink undercoat, seamseals etc).
This is probably the most shocking restoration I’ve ever witnessed on UA-cam. I’m a classic Porsche guy, how many slightly rusted 914 have been crushed in the last 50 years. To put one back on the road is ridiculously impressive. I’m without words to describe it.
why no primer ? and why didn't sand it to raw metal?!i understand painting it from raw metal would be extra expense that shmee didn't wanted but not primering it i don't. i seen a lot of same paint job that started to pill just because not using a primer. although scuffing it can help and newer paint tec maybe don't need that step, can you explain it to me?
You have been done an amazing job with Tim’s Porsche. It’s very fascinating to see how did you bend metal almost like paper. Just phenomenal work! Keep going! Can’t wait to see this Porsche when it’s all done. Greetings from Finland!
If you were to show me that color for some other random car, I'd say no. But for this 914, it makes total sense. This car is from the era when the first 930's were introduced. And lots of them were neon green or other really vivid colors. Heck, the Mopar scene was full of lemon yellow and plum crazy. Totally period fitting. Great work, of course and your videos have even showed me how to repair my sand blaster with some point by point mig welding like you always do on sheet metal. And it worked!
I am currently doing a frame up resto on a rust bucket '87 Volkswagen GTI and this channel has been great on teaching me what is needed to it right. I have been using Dinitrol products due to the channel and I will say that it they have been fantastic compared to their competitors...highly recommend, especially the RC900.
@shmee150, Tim, once this is done, you seriously need to enter this into Sema and win, its going to look absolutely fantastic and with a montage video playing of ALL the work that YCR has done, it will be absolutely a show stopper!!!! Do it!
I haven’t got far into the video I just hope that the car gets a beautiful immaculate engine etc to go with the absolutely amazing work you guys have done! You really are geniuses of your art!
I had a SAAB 99, early '70's, that very colour... they also had a lime green and an orange if you wanted.... also, at thattime I spent a couple of yrs tinkering with a friend's 914 (until he changed it for a 911) so I've been captivated with this body restoration.... great tv....
Check the bracket for the handbrake. Its common that is rusts from the backside and then the bung that the handbrake swivels on cracks in the weld. Just check it with an endoscope from the backside before you get too far along.
Excellent work guys, have you never though about dividing the workshop up into 'clean' & 'dirty' sections, all that dust/ overspray etc would drive me insane!, would save you alot of cleaning up afterwards too (to surrounding vehicles etc), anyway, that doesnt detract from the great content and wrokmanship etc.
The best 914 that I've seen was a wide body in tennis ball green! It really popped. I'm not 100% sure about the pink/red but it reminds me of the matchbox cars from the 70s in their loud crazy colours. It will definitely turn heads@
totally with you cars on colour - i am sooooooooooooooo bored of seeing black, white, silver, grey, dull shades in a dull country WE NEED COLOUR !! so i am changing my black Audi S3 (1999) to a nice blue, possibly with a white hypershift (think we call that pearl here) so correct me if i'm wrong - great work, nice transformation
Great stuff guys! Do you think you could do an episode focusing on Dinitrol products that you use? I use them, but they have so many rust related/protection products, that I’m confused on what to use sometimes, especially comparing what I use compared to you. I’m not a pro. Ta.
What a coincidence my car that I’m having restored in Perth Australia is a XA Ford Falcon Hardtop this is being painted in Ford Wild Plum which is identical to this colour..😳😎
13:20 into the video as you sprayed the piece you just installed, I noticed the rocking seat pivot. May I suggest you make sure now that it moves freely before and after paint? 3 guesses how I let me know.
Love the channel great work on the fabrication, but did I follow the description correctly are you applying Dintrol ML before 445? Or have I misunderstood? I did'nt think ML would be a good base for 445 - sure a good base for 4941 but not for stone chip. - Maybe its just the description is slightly confused or maybe I have it wrong but I never mix ML with anything other than cavity wax and 4941.
In used on my 914 the DINITROL 448 Pyrmohyd. This can be painted over with 2K lacquers. I painted the complete underbody in color Olympic blue, looks awesome…
I'm really loving this collab between @shmee150 and @yorkshirecarrestoration, it's really entertaining and informative. I can't wait to see the finish beastie, it's gunna look shmick!!!! 😂😂
Great video Ryan , you, your Dad and Uncle Richard do fantastic things everyday , no matter which cars you bring back to life , the skills and patience are awesome.
Anyone can explain me why there is no primer on the panels but on the whole car? I'm pretty sure the guys know what they're doing, but I currently don't understand ...
Awesome color! Still don't understand why you didn't remove the hideous American side markers on the front while you had the change. Looks much cleaner without them and it's going to reside in Europe anyway.
Absolutely love this transformation. Everything I ever wanted to do and never did when I owned my '73 914. Still my favorite car ever owned. Can't wait to see it fully finished and driving.
Seriously, could body guys tell me, why do you sand INSIDE a paint booth? Its not just YCR that does it either. Isnt that the last place you want to be creating all that dust? Just courious. 🤔
Yes. But they also still don't seem to have dust extraction. So there will be alot of dust after one coat anyway. Priming next to freshly painted cars alzo seems like a curious way to work, and I haven't seen them degrease that whole car before primer. And I know they have already explained many time why they don't acid dip, but their air compressor could handle a big ass sandblaster, right?
What a transformation right? Don't forget that like and subscribe button if you enjoyed! 😊

If it looks this good in primer I can only imagine how incredible it will look in Ruby Star. You guys are killing it!🎉❤
yeh its a great job but I am still waiting on Micah Richards to appear ? Ah uncle Richard lol
Simply amazing. BRAVO
Awesome color
Love you guys and the amazing skilled work! Please look after yourself and wear a respirator when spraying. From the Dinitrol spec sheet: "May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure"
Tim so reminds me of an excited Keith Chegwin😂. Showing my age😜
I met him once..................

Not my first choice of color for. A classic car but it certainly pops.
why no primer ? and why didn't sand it to raw metal?!i understand painting it from raw metal would be extra expense that shmee didn't wanted but not primering it i don't. i seen a lot of same paint job that started to pill just because not using a primer. although scuffing it can help and newer paint tec maybe don't need that step, can you explain it to me?

Its an amazing color choice, looks awesome, good job!
The colour is like the old Iron Dames RSR, love it!
Wonderful stuff!
If you were to show me that color for some other random car, I'd say no. But for this 914, it makes total sense. This car is from the era when the first 930's were introduced. Fantastic showcase for what talented tradesfolk are capable of, love it 🥰
That color does scream 90's, sounds like the car will make a nice gift to her.

WOW…that flame thrower tools looks hot stuff!
Building the rotisserie really made your work on the 914 alot easier
Yet another piece of artwork.
Just a shame that most of your work will be hidden. 😢
Absolutely fascinating the quality of work & the outcome of what you guys do ❤
Awesome restorations - I can't wait to see it fully completed
I had a SAAB 99, early '70's, that very colour... they also had a lime green and an orange if you wanted.... also, at thattime I spent a couple of yrs tinkering with a friend's 914 (until he changed it for a 911) so I've been captivated with this body restoration.... great tv....
Love the colour choice... Triumph had a similar colour on the Dolly Sprint (magenta) back in the day ! :)
amazing work, I still cannot believe how much you have transformed this lovely little sports car
Another beauty on its yourney back to life
Don't forget to paint the part of the engine lid under its grill satin black. Looks way better!
Check the bracket for the handbrake. Its common that is rusts from the backside and then the bung that the handbrake swivels on cracks in the weld. Just check it with an endoscope from the backside before you get too far along.
Great work! Too bad not installing a 2-2.4L flat six!
❤❤ great show 👏 ❤
Nice color😁😁😁👍

Great vid! Love what you do. Whatever happened to mat’s beemer?
The best 914 that I've seen was a wide body in tennis ball green! It really popped.
I'm not 100% sure about the pink/red but it reminds me of the matchbox cars from the 70s in their loud crazy colours.

Awesome!
Awesome colour - suits the car and will certainly make the car stand out.....great choice👌
Looking forward to getting it all painted!!! :D
totally with you cars on colour - i am sooooooooooooooo bored of seeing black, white, silver, grey, dull shades in a dull country
WE NEED COLOUR !!
so i am changing my black Audi S3 (1999) to a nice blue, possibly with a white hypershift (think we call that pearl here) so correct me if i'm wrong - great work, nice transformation
Amazing work as usual. I love the team effort.
Epic restoration, enough misery to give one ulcers, thus the Pepto-Bismol pink paint.
Nice vid again. Without bad translation 😊
my nieces hubby just painted is v w camper van the same colour. i call it poof pink to wind him up.
Great stuff guys! Do you think you could do an episode focusing on Dinitrol products that you use? I use them, but they have so many rust related/protection products, that I’m confused on what to use sometimes, especially comparing what I use compared to you. I’m not a pro. Ta.

Great work wish i had your hands
UA-camrs providing you with work for the next three generations 😂
Tim's rather excited 😂
Cars restored at YCR will out live their owners.
13:20 into the video as you sprayed the piece you just installed, I noticed the rocking seat pivot.
May I suggest you make sure now that it moves freely before and after paint? 3 guesses how I let me know.
Thank goodness you don't have to deal with a leaking roof anymore!!!
914 becomes pinkgenta ;) Hopefully they sprayed the bosses stapler with that color too
Awesome

Aww, overspray primer on your beautiful underside😢
That was my concern, too!
Have you abandoned colin furze's car?
They are waiting on parts as they have said numerous times before.
@tomswindler64 which is obviously understandable but a question can be asked without stating how often they have answered it
I'd love to see the total hours and materials on this when it's finished.
Reminds me of Magenta they used on the Triumph Stag.
In used on my 914 the DINITROL 448 Pyrmohyd. This can be painted over with 2K lacquers. I painted the complete underbody in color Olympic blue, looks awesome…

Brilliant as always 👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
The work that has gone into that car so far is colossal, still so much more to go. But it feels like you are getting the better of it
I've loved watching this car being brought back to life, not sure on the colour but hey what do I know.
wow !!!
Great video Ryan , you, your Dad and Uncle Richard do fantastic things everyday , no matter which cars you bring back to life , the skills and patience are awesome.
All this nice restoration... and then you apply the new paint on top of the old one. That's sad 😞
Top work Ryan and love that colour ❤
I see YCR notification, I insta click it lol
Shmee seems like a good guy. His excitement for cars is awesome. Excellent job on the little car.
Anyone can explain me why there is no primer on the panels but on the whole car?
I'm pretty sure the guys know what they're doing, but I currently don't understand ...

I would get a custom airbrush paintjob that looks like patchwork.
Beautiful work, Ryan. You and your family are artisans. Interesting color choice, and it looks good on the 914 body.
Am I a being a fool but surely the panels should have been primed as well?
They are primed underneath the blue colour
Wow! It is absolutely stunning what you have achieved on "PATCHES" Well done to you all! Bravo!!
You should rename this to YCR 914 😄
It has a couple of sections on the undercarriage that are still dented. 11.25 right in the middle of the picture behind the play button.
Where is the finished Mat Armstrong BMW video
That colour choice is inspired, it will look absolutely fantastic 👍
This feels like the top of the hill after a long slog. Well done. A great episode. The look on his face priceless
You’ve proven bondo is thicker than the metal. But who’d guess so is paint.
Maybe you should rechristen patches to Bondage. LoL
Did Shmee blow it on the color choice or did she?
There is a man with more money than sense 😬
I’m amazed with all the work on the body you could go straight into primer on the panels and they didn’t need any work first?
may I suggest a visit to spec savers
@ did I miss something where he went straight into painting insides of doors and bonnet and boot lid without having to do any bodywork to them?
Eine Erstklassige Blecharbeit und dann, so eine Farbe😭
Love the bold colour I hope to see more colorful cars like this
Why not a dustproof room for the painting?
Can’t wait for the next episode!!!!😊
Wow, that colour. Is Shmee's girlfriend Penelope pitstop?
Excellent, massive step forward this episode, can't wait see it come together
where matt amstrong e24?
that color looks like stait from a Barbie movie 😂
Didnt matt armstrong do his porsche in that colour
Top job 👌🏻🇬🇧🇩🇰🏁
WOW Fantastic job 🤩
Wow it’s looking amazing top work
Love that colour
Fantastic colour Tim and Puppi have chosen 👍💕
Every time it’s rolled over to show the underside, all I see is the bashed in areas down the middle of the floor pan.
It's a shame people only see the bad. Oh well
Seriously, could body guys tell me, why do you sand INSIDE a paint booth? Its not just YCR that does it either. Isnt that the last place you want to be creating all that dust? Just courious. 🤔
