The duties and VAT are only high because of the value you are placing on the car. Ordinarily vehicles are dismantled before being shipped and then reassembled. Better to partially dismantle and then you can record a genuine lower value. If the ultimate price is conditional on you being able to fix it then you could pay Sam $50k at a later date.
You don't pay import duty on goods valued under £135. You don't pay VAT on goods valued under £39. And no further duties would apply. Once he’s owned it in the uk for 12 months he can then sell it duty free… This is a grey area. Don’t get me wrong and it’s been a couple of years since I last dealt with an issue like this… but it is a naughty loophole that has been known to work in the past… the person to speak to about it is an American serviceman stationed in England. If they bought it, then shipped it here, then sold it after 12 months I don’t think there’s any duty at all to pay even on the shipping but it is a shady topic but there are loopholes… the big problem is that obviously everyone watching this channel is ready to scrutinise you!! So be careful but never say never!! Thanks for the videos! Love watching them…👍
Yes. These are growing on me.
Can you have it shipped as a partscar? Which means (maybe take out the ECU and/or other components and) import as non drivable. Would that make a difference?
Is it cheaper if you strip it down and send it as parts not a full car ??
Yes on buying it
