Call me a fanboy, but i love every Leo Fender design!
LOVE G&L! They have some truly wonderful gems in their line, and the quality, feel, and sound is fantastic.
When you consider the projects and companies that Leo Fender was involved with it is no wonder Music Man and G&L are as popular today as they are. He was a visionary, always looking to solve issues that working musicians had with their gear; whether it was with amplification or guitar Leo was a genius in his own right. It is as if Leo could see how music would begin to shape long before it ever came to pass. This design was from the late 1960s and let’s face it EMG Active was not a thing yet, but Leo designed a guitar that incorporated active electronics and coil splitting tech in the 1960s. Sure it was never released until recently but can you imagine if it had jumped on the scene back in the early 70s, wow! I want one so bad it is a sonic beast.
What is even crazier to consider is if this had launched back then, what advancements would Leo have come up with once seeing how it transformed the industry? Always light years ahead. Thanks for the demo.
I love G&L guitars and basses!
Dude, I love your content. I REALLY love the fact you give G&L love because there is virtually nothing out there about this guitar.
Dude that gives a 70s punk rock look I love it 😎❤️
I love G&L!!! ❤❤❤ so many great options for different price points, amazing tone, and excellent qc!!!
Good choice! Owner of three G&Ls here: Broadcaster, Doheny and an Espada. Other guitars have come and gone, but the G&Ls are lifelong companions.
CLF Research/G&L is doing a lot of cool stuff.
Thanks. I’ve been looking forward to online demos, and you delivered. I have the single coil Espada and and considering this since I don’t have a humbucker guitar yet.
Love my G&L Doheny Tribute! Super underrated
Me: "All I need is a tele, a Les Paul and a strat."
Fluff: "so, G&L makes this goofy shaped rock machine that looks really cool."
Me:😮
That's a cool guitar. I hope they make an import version for us hobby players.
Love G&L. Every guitar I've bought after my G&L gets compared to it.
Sold!!!! That has to be the best sounding guitar ever it’s like if a tele and a Strat had a blasters son that smoked weed and played doom and stoner riffs all day
I really wish G&L would update their heels. Their guitars are awesome and the new CLF Doheny V12 in Sunset Coral is killer, but that big blocky heel just ruins it for me...
Their basses are pretty awesome, too!
I have not played any G&Ls, but this thing seems to have just about everything I want in a guitar - coil splitting, T&B controls and a kill switch (which is just cool to have). The most recent guitar I put together was an SG with with master T&B controls, and it helps a lot with tone sculpting and especially dialing in fuzzes. Given how cool this looks, I might have to add another axe to the wall in my quest for the perfect guitar, though if I had my druthers it'd probably have a hum-cancelling tele neck pickup. Sometimes you just have to build em or customize yourself I guess, but things seems pretty awesome right out the box.
6:00 Oh fluff the birds are flying high. 🐦🐦🐦🐦
I really like this one. Most designs are meh here lately. I actually like that switch layout.
Well damn it I am going to have to trade my ESP E-II Eclipse for this!
Looks great but we need a tribute version of this
Great video fluf, what gear are you playing through?
I definitely like G&L much more than Fender. I think that Leo was on to better designs when he was working the G&L brand.
I like the stock vibrato/trem G&L bridge way better than the stock Fender ones. Other than that though, Fender has moved beyond 1980s inventions and have modernized some of their higher-end models.
@@user-ww2vg9uh6c I've definitely noticed that Fender over the last few years has jumped up and really moved forward!
That fretboard is so dry that it's almost painful to look at.
Show the back!!! 👀
Question / correction: Is the third switch a kill switch? I thought it was the active circuitry?
Killswitch. This is not an active guitar.
Hmmm. What happens with the Balaguer Espada? haha
Very different from the Espada produced by Balaguer Guitars.
vox amp miyight matchy with it. foxy. and a lite morely classic wah water pedal.. morley "?!"
If he started G&L back in the 60’s, when did he start MusicMan?
Leo created CLF research in the late '60s right after selling Fender to CBS. He kept on with guitar development for Fender and also cooked up some sweet guitars for MusicMan in the '70s. Then in '79, he teamed up with George Fullerton to kick off G&L.
Would have totally bought one had they not used that awful looking "Caribbean Rosewood". This guitar SCREAMS for an ebony board.
The headstock looks so much better on this than on most of their models with the extra "peak" on the bottom carve. It totally ruins the entire look for me, so I'm glad this one doesn't have that. Looks more clean imo
Why does that rosewood look so dried out?
It's not real rosewood. It's chechen. G&L used to originally put chechen on their build sheets, but then they "rebranded" it as "Caribbean Rosewood", which is just a term. Chechen is not even in the rosewood family. IMO, alternative woods like Jatoba look way better.
The days of good fretboards are long gone. Buy old guitars
@@OttophilI recently gutted an oldbutnearlynew Ibanez JTK1 from the 90s[?] for the neck and humbuckers to go to other guitars I have.
Only cost me $400 altogether - the neck is equivalent in quality to an $800-custom Warmoth neck that I adore, and the humbuckers are the best I've ever heard. I was stuck on Mark Holcomb's Alpha/Omega since their initial limited release came out so many years ago..
@@BXGuitars Thanks for that bit of info. I had one of these (returned it due to way too many defects) and was wondering why the fretboard looked that way. When I hydrated it, it had some darker streaks running through it, which I thought looked really cool. But I don't have that guitar anymore.
@@user-ww2vg9uh6c Not a problem at all. G&L must have bought an absolute ton of this stuff at some point. The Tribute has real rosewood and their USA line doesn't. Make that make sense. 😆
Im a big g&l fan anyway and this dont help .
I’m sorry. Beautiful guitar, sounds great, but in what universe would anyone spend 2 grand on a guitar that doesn’t even have locking tuners??
